  • Computing the lowest eigenstate of tight-binding Hamiltonians using

      Finding or estimating the lowest eigenstate of quantum system Hamiltonians is an important problem for quantum computing, quantum physics, quantum chemistry, and material science. Several quantum computing approaches have been developed to address this problem. The most frequently used method is variational quantum eigensolver (VQE). Many quantum systems, and especially nanomaterials, are described using tight-binding Hamiltonians, but until now no quantum computation method has been developed to find the lowest eigenvalue of these specific, but very important, Hamiltonians. We address the problem of finding the lowest eigenstate of tight-binding Hamiltonians using quantum walks. Quantum walks is a universal model of quantum computation equivalent to the quantum gate model. Furthermore, quantum walks can be mapped to quantum circuits comprising qubits, quantum registers, and quantum gates and, consequently, executed on quantum computers. In our approach, probability distributions, derived from wave function probability amplitudes, enter our quantum algorithm as potential distributions in the space where the quantum walk evolves. Our results showed the quantum walker localization in the case of the lowest eigenvalue is distinctive and characteristic of this state. Our approach will be a valuable computation tool for studying quantum systems described by tight-binding Hamiltonians.

  • Passive decoy state phase matching quantum key distribution

      In this paper, a passive decoy state phase matching quantum key distribution scheme is proposed based on the heralded pair coherent state light source to make the protocol more practical and safe. Without changing the intensity of the light source, we can derive four different data sets by dividing the raw key data into four groups according to the combined results of detectors in source end. The scheme can make use of the different data sets to estimate the parameters and extract the secret key. The key generation rate formula is derived after the parameter estimation. The performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed with and without taking statistical fluctuation into consideration. The simulation results show that compared with the existing active decoy-state method, the proposed passive method has slightly lower key rate when the transmission distance is short, and has obviously higher key rate when the transmission distance exceeds 406[math]km. The maximum safety transmission distance of the proposed scheme is 452[math]km which is relatively further. According to the influence of statistical fluctuation, the performance of the proposed scheme declines as the length of the data falls. Even though the data size is [math], the max safety transmission distance is also more than 400[math]km.

  • Full-separability and bi-separability of qubits using Bell operators,
           partial transpose, witnesses and explicit (full/bi) separability

      Using the Hilbert–Schmidt (HS) decomposition we suggest new possible choices of Bell operators and entanglement witnesses (EWs) for [math] ([math]) qubits systems for (full/bi) separability. The latter give upper bounds for (full/bi) separability. Also using the HS decomposition, we find explicitly (full/bi) separable forms for some qubits states which give lower bounds for (full/bi) separability. When the lower bounds and upper bounds coincide it means that the EW is optimal. In the case of full separability, the positive transpose method can sometimes give optimal results. As concrete examples, we give results for the GHZ(3), [math] and cluster [math] states.

  • The transmission efficiency analysis for quantum secure direct
           communications over noisy channels

      The concept of quantum secure direct communication (QSDC) is to distribute secure message directly between distant users securely, which is an important branch of quantum information science. The purpose of QSDC is to investigate the large capacity of quantum channels and fast speed of information transmission. However, the fidelity of qubits and the efficiency of QSDC will inevitably be affected by the channel noise and the decoherence of the quantum system. In this work, we focus on the performance of QSDC under different noisy channels, and investigate the evolution of quantum states. By numerically studying the performance for two QSDC protocols, we show the efficiency of information transmission over different noisy channel models.

  • Comparison of quantum state protection against decoherence via weak
           measurement, a survey

      One of the crucial tasks in quantum systems is to reduce the effects of decoherence due to the unavoidable interactions between a system and its environment. Many protection schemes have been proposed recently, among them the weak measurement quantum measurement reversal (WMQMR), weak measurement-based quantum feedback control (QFBC) and quantum feedforward control (QFFC) are reviewed in this paper. By considering weak measurement, the aim is to find a balance between information gain and disturbance of the system caused by the measurement. We classify different types of measurement and give the definition of noise sources and their effects on the state of the system. Finally, we compare and analyze the performance of the discussed protection schemes for different noise sources by numerical simulations.

  • Effect of initial squeezing on tripartite continuous-variable entanglement
           of dynamical processes

      In this paper, we investigate the effect of initial squeezing on tripartite continuous-variable (CV) Hamiltonians based on real physical systems. The Hamiltonians are based on the three-mode magnons excited by an external field, the one-dimensional interconnected tripartite spring-like system, and two spin ensembles coupled to a cavity resonator in the nondispersive regime in the CV limit. We find that for the three-mode magnons and the spring-like system, implementation of initial squeezing invariably enhances the two-way and three-way entanglement, while for the spin-resonator system, it depends on the alignment of the spin ensembles relative to the resonator field.

  • Dynamical decoupling and NNN discrete quantum networks

      Perfect State Transfer is known to be possible on complex next-to-nearest-neighbor structures of qubits. The complexity of these networks coupled with the pervasive imperfections of the real world can lead to shortcomings in their practical construction. We analyze several realistic categories of flaws in the networks and show that they can have a harsh effect on the network’s performance. Dynamical decoupling is a known quantum error correction algorithm that can be used for partial or complete mitigation of undesired artefacts in quantum systems. We show here that dynamical decoupling can, in principle, also be used to stabilize the complex next-to-nearest-neighbor networks of qubits. We compare the proposed dynamical decoupling schemes with a baseline of dynamical decoupling scheme that eliminates all but one path to quantum state transfer on the network, thus effectively transforming it to a nearest-neighbor chain.

      In [S. L. Luo, Using measurement induced disturbance to characterize correlations as classical or quantum, Phys. Rev. A77 (2008) 022301], the author presented a statistical correlation measure for bipartite quantum states using measurement induced disturbance. In this paper, motivated by this correlation measure, we obtain some necessary conditions for [math]-classical states in multipartite quantum systems, and obtain a relation between the set of [math]-classical states and the set of [math]-product states; Secondly, we introduce a class of correlation measures based on trace distance using measurement induced disturbance in order to quantify the strength of correlation for non-[math]-classical states; Lastly, we introduce the concept of quantum channel with respect to [math]-partition, it is simply denoted by identical-[math]-channel, and furthermore discuss the influences of the correlation measure under identical-[math]-channel.

      The effects of the measurement apparatus on quantum coherence are studied by considering a purely dephasing model of a qubit. The initial state is prepared from a thermal state of the whole system by performing a nonselective measurement on the qubit. The magnitude of the initial postmeasurement coherence is bounded by the value [math], which is realized with special measurement schemes and in the low-temperature limit. The coherence magnitude identically vanishes, increases or decreases with an approximately constant rate over a determined short-time scale, according to the choice of the preparation measurement. The maximization of the short-time increasing or decreasing rate is favored by the choice of other special measurement schemes and the high-temperature limit. The measurement apparatus allows to manipulate the quantum coherence of the qubit over short times via nonselective preparation measurements.

  • Entanglement and nonlocality of four-qubit connected hypergraph states

      We study entanglement and nonlocality of connected four-qubit hypergraph states. One obtains the Stochastic Local Operations and Classical Communication (SLOCC) classification from the known local unitary (LU)-orbits. We then consider Mermin’s polynomials and show that the nonlocal behavior of hypergraph states can be detected by a suitable choice of Mermin’s inequality. Finally, we implement some of the corresponding inequalities on the IBM Quantum Experience and report the detection of the nonlocality of a three-qubit hypergraph states.

  • An efficient approach for quantum entanglement purification

      Entanglement plays a major role in quantum information process and is a principal resource for various quantum applications like quantum teleportation, quantum key distribution, quantum communication, etc. Strong entangled pairs are required for efficient information process but system impurities during the transportation diminishes the entanglement by reducing the fidelity of the entangled pair. In order to reduce this, purification techniques can be used. In this paper, we propose an efficient entanglement purification method to distill the entanglement using entanglement swapping. The proposed method increases the fidelity of the entanglement and can be a proficient for various applications of quantum computing.

  • Gate-based circuit designs for quantum adder-inspired quantum random walks
           on superconducting qubits

      Quantum random walks, which drew much attention over the past few decades for their distinctly nonclassical behavior, are a promising subfield within quantum computing. Theoretical framework and applications for these walks have seen many great mathematical advances, with experimental demonstrations now catching up. In this study, we examine the viability of implementing coin quantum random walks using a Quantum Adder-based Shift Operator, with quantum circuit designs specifically for superconducting qubits. We focus on the strengths and weaknesses of these walks, particularly circuit depth, gate count, connectivity requirements and scalability. We propose and analyze a novel approach to implementing boundary conditions for these walks, demonstrating the technique explicitly in one and two dimensions. Finally, we present several fidelity results from running our circuits on IBM’s quantum volume 32 ‘Toronto’ chip, showcasing the extent to which these noisy intermediate-scale quantum devices can currently handle quantum walks.

  • Four-qubit states generated by Clifford gates

      The Clifford group is the set of gates generated by controlled not (CNOT) gates and the two local gates [math] and [math]. We will say that an [math]-qubit state is a Clifford state if it can be prepared using Clifford gates, this is, [math] is Clifford if [math] where [math] is a Clifford gate. In this paper, we study the set of all 4-qubit Clifford states. We prove that there are 293760 states, each of which has entanglement entropy equal to 0, [math], 1, [math], or [math]. We also show that any pair of these states can be connected using local gates and at most 3 CNOT gates. We also study the Clifford states with real entries under the action of the subgroup [math] of Clifford gates with real entries. This time we show that every pair of Clifford states with real entries can be connected with at most 5 CNOT gates and local gates in [math]. To understand the action of the 12 different CNOT gates, we partition the Clifford states into orbits using the equivalence relation: two states are equivalent if they differ by a local Clifford gate. We label each orbit in such a way that it is easy to see the effect of the CNOT gates. Diagrams and tables explaining the action of the CNOT gates on all the orbits are presented in the paper.   • The security analysis of the BB84 protocol in the case of
           Calderbank–Shor–Steane code leakage

      Quantum key distribution (QKD) allows authenticated parties to share secure keys. Its security comes from quantum physics rather than computational complexity. The previous work has been able to demonstrate the security of the BB84 protocol based on the uncertainty principle, entanglement purification and information theory. In the security proof method based on entanglement purification, it is assumed that the information of Calderbank–Shor–Steane (CSS) error correction code cannot be leaked, otherwise, it is insecure. However, there is no quantitative analysis of the relationship between the parameter of CSS code and the amount of information leaked. In the attack and defense strategy of the actual quantum key distribution system, especially in the application of the device that is easy to lose or out of control, it is necessary to assess the impact of the parameter leakage. In this paper, we derive the relationship between the leaked parameter of CSS code and the amount of the final key leakage based on the BB84 protocol. Based on this formula, we simulated the impact of different CSS code parameter leaks on the final key amount. Through the analysis of simulation results, the security of the BB84 protocol is inversely proportional to the value of [math] and [math] in the case of the CSS code leak.
