Authors:Jan Kielar, Marcel Mikeska, Jan Najser, Jaroslav FrantÃk Pages: 101 - 113 Abstract: Before commercial pyrolysis units are launched, it is convenient to test them in the laboratory conditions. However, some of the laboratory measurement procedures may be time consuming. This article deals with the choice of a suitable system and implementation of methods for online measurements of weight loss - macro TGA in a laboratory pyrolysis unit. When choosing a suitable measurement system, the priorities were accuracy, replicability, simplicity, possibility of its implementation into the existing equipment, and economy of all adjustments. To specify the choice of the weight loss measurement method, the article also describes the unit and the testing procedure. For testing of adjusted unit, the pyrolysis experiments with biomass pellets were conducted. The results measured by designed weighing system and by laboratory balance shown the negligible difference. Authors:Hemani Paliwal, Vikramaditya Dave Pages: 114 - 143 Abstract: The world's energy consumption has risen drastically in the last few decades due to the fast-growing population and urbanisation. Most of the world's energy demand is met by traditional fuels up to date, but these sources are not everlasting. Also, the price of oil is increasing continuously. The world is witnessing drastic climatic changes like global warming, an increase in sea level; extreme weather changes that result in adverse health and environmental consequences. To come out of these problems, scientists all around the world have embraced renewable energy sources as a substitute energy source. Renewable energy sources have unpredictable power output. Therefore, it is better to use renewable sources in hybrid mode, so that they can counterbalance the indiscriminate nature of each other. Hybridisation of renewable energy sources is a complex nonlinear problem and needs optimal designing. Researchers have adopted different optimisation techniques. This study summarises different optimisation techniques used so far which helps readers to find suitable option. Authors:Bharat Modi, Mahendra Lalwani Pages: 144 - 177 Abstract: In solar power-rich countries like India (especially the south Indian region), temperature variation is not negligible. Usually, a variation from 25°C to 45°C in the day is noticed. On the other hand, the output of a PV array depends on several parameters like ambient temperature, pressure, insolation and configurations. Most of the inverter topologies have recently been introduced to interface to the constant DC voltage source. Practically, in the case of a photovoltaic array, this is not true. However, with variable DC voltage sources, it utilises an electronic equaliser. It requires a large number of components as a consequence of the system's cost and complexity increases. In this paper, a simple stabiliser has been designed and implemented to offset this effect. A simple test system is also designed for this stabiliser. The results based on simulation, experimental and mathematical modelling is also presented. Comparative analysis with existing topologies is also presented here and concludes that voltage variation is due to the change in temperature least. We have also tried to show that by using this stabiliser switching, losses get reduced to 6/7 times as compared with standard temperature conditions. Authors:Navneet, Neha Khurana, Smita Pareek Pages: 178 - 195 Abstract: Renewable energy demand is increasing day by day due to clean and environment friendly source requirements. Partial shading on the solar photovoltaic is unavoidable effect and it affects the solar photovoltaic performance adversely. The photovoltaic cells of a module receive different level of irradiance under partial shading and reduce the power output. Therefore, different connections of these cells are explored to avoid the shading effect. This paper studies a 4 × 4 module with various interconnection such as series-parallel (SP), total cross tied (TCT), bridge-link (BL), honeycomb (HC) and triple tied (TT). Shading pattern on a 4 × 4 module is increased cell by cell in vertical direction, both from top to bottom and bottom to top. These shading patterns progress up to three columns out of four on a module. The characteristic curves, i.e., power against voltage and current against voltage are shown for the mentioned shading patterns and interconnections. Authors:Vipul Rameshchandra Bhatt, Tushar Maganbhai Patel Pages: 196 - 212 Abstract: In the context of environmental degradation and soaring prices for a barrel of petroleum, biofuels are now being presented as a renewable, sustainable, and alternative fuel for compression ignition engines to reduce the dependency on petroleum import, global warming, and preventing engine life. This paper has reviewed the effect of biofuel (pure oil and different blends with conventional diesel fuel) on engine performance, emission characteristics, and durability of engine for compression ignition engines based on comparisons with standard diesel fuels. It is also reviewed that biofuel can be replaced with fossil diesel fuel due to its similar fuel properties and the engine can be operated smoothly without any engine modifications to balance GHG emissions in the environment. The review has suggested that the implementation of biofuel results in the reduction of engine life due to a few tribological issues in the main components of C.I. engines.
