  • Solving Constrained Flow-Shop Scheduling Problem through Multistage Fuzzy
           Binding Approach with Fuzzy Due Dates

    • Abstract: This paper deals with constrained multistage machines flow-shop (FS) scheduling model in which processing times, job weights, and break-down machine time are characterized by fuzzy numbers that are piecewise as well as quadratic in nature. Avoiding to convert the model into its crisp, the closed interval approximation for the piecewise quadratic fuzzy numbers is incorporated. The suggested method leads a noncrossing optimal sequence to the considered problem and minimizes the total elapsed time under fuzziness. The proposed approach helps the decision maker to search for applicable solution related to real-world problems and minimizes the total fuzzy elapsed time. A numerical example is provided for the illustration of the suggested methodology.

  • Clustering and Fuzzy Logic-Based Demand-Side Management for Solar
           Microgrid Operation: Case Study of Ngurudoto Microgrid, Arusha, Tanzania

    • Abstract: Permanent electricity availability should not be taken for granted since grid sustainability and reliability are at stake when there is no balance between supply and demand. This paper employs a load balancing demand-side management (DSM) approach based on fuzzy logic, considering the low energy users who have insignificant influence on system peaks. Through the K-means clustering algorithm, suitable candidates for DSM are identified, and the control mechanism is based on energy utilization and load priority. The results reveal that about 3.7 kW in power saving was achieved per month. This result indicates that, with a proper energy management strategy for an individual customer, almost a flatter load profile and power saving can be achieved.

  • Generalized Ideals of BCK/BCI-Algebras Based on Fuzzy Soft Set Theory

    • Abstract: In the present paper, using Lukaswize triple-valued logic, we introduce the notion of -intuitionistic fuzzy soft ideal of -algebras, where are the membership values between an intuitionistic fuzzy soft point and intuitionistic fuzzy set. Moreover, intuitionistic fuzzy soft ideals with thresholds are introduced, and their related properties are investigated.

  • Designing an Intuitionistic Fuzzy Network Data Envelopment Analysis Model
           for Efficiency Evaluation of Decision-Making Units with Two-Stage
           Structures

    • Abstract: Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a powerful tool for evaluating the efficiency of decision-making units for ranking and comparison purposes and to differentiate efficient and inefficient units. Classic DEA models are ill-suited for the problems where decision-making units consist of multiple stages with intermediate products and those where inputs and outputs are imprecise or nondeterministic, which is not uncommon in the real world. This paper presents a new DEA model for evaluating the efficiency of decision-making units with two-stage structures and triangular intuitionistic fuzzy data. The paper first introduces two-stage DEA models, then explains how these models can be modified with intuitionistic fuzzy coefficients, and finally describes how arithmetic operators for intuitionistic fuzzy numbers can be used for a conversion into crisp two-stage structures. In the end, the proposed method is used to solve an illustrative numerical example.

  • -Fuzzy Filters in Distributive Lattices

    • Abstract: In this paper, we introduce the concept of -fuzzy filters in distributive lattices. We study the special class of fuzzy filters called -fuzzy filters, which is isomorphic to the set of all fuzzy ideals of the lattice of coannihilators. We observe that every -fuzzy filter is the intersection of all prime -fuzzy filters containing it. We also topologize the set of all prime -fuzzy filters of a distributive lattice. Properties of the space are also studied. We show that there is a one-to-one correspondence between the class of -fuzzy filters and the lattice of all open sets in . It is proved that the space is a space.

  • T-S Fuzzy System Controller for Stabilizing the Double Inverted Pendulum

    • Abstract: This article provides a representation of the double inverted pendulum system that is shaped and regulated in response to torque application at the top rather than the bottom of the pendulum, given that most researchers have controlled the double inverted pendulum based on the lower part or the base. To achieve this objective, we designed a dynamic Lagrangian conceptualization of the double inverted pendulum and a state feedback representation based on the simple convex polytypic transformation. Finally, we used the fuzzy state feedback approach to linearize the mathematical nonlinear model and to develop a fuzzy controller , given its great ability to simplify nonlinear systems in order to reduce the error rate and to increase precision. In our virtual conceptualization of the inverted pendulum, we used MATLAB software to simulate the movement of the system before applying a command on the upper part of the system to check its stability. Concerning the nonlinearities of the system, we have found a state feedback fuzzy control approach. Overall, the simulation results have shown that the fuzzy state feedback model is very efficient and flexible as it can be modified in different positions.

  • Fuzzy Ideal Supra Topological Spaces

    • Abstract: In this paper, we introduce the notion of fuzzy ideals in fuzzy supra topological spaces. The concept of a fuzzy s-local function is also introduced here by utilizing the s-neighbourhood structure for a fuzzy supra topological space. These concepts are discussed with a view to find new fuzzy supra topologies from the original one. The basic structure, especially a basis for such generated fuzzy supra topologies, and several relations between different fuzzy ideals and fuzzy supra topologies are also studied here. Moreover, we introduce a fuzzy set operator and study its properties. Finally, we introduce some sets of fuzzy ideal supra topological spaces (fuzzy -supra dense-in-itself sets, fuzzy -supra closedsets, fuzzy -supra perfect sets, fuzzy regular-I-supra closedsets, fuzzy-I-supra opensets, fuzzy semi-I-supra opensets, fuzzy pre-I-supra opensets, fuzzy -I-supra opensets, and fuzzy -I-supra opensets) and study some characteristics of these sets, and then, we introduce some fuzzy ideal supra continuous functions.

  • 2-Quasitotal Fuzzy Graphs and Their Total Coloring

    • Abstract: Coloring of fuzzy graphs has many real-life applications in combinatorial optimization problems like traffic light system, exam scheduling, and register allocation. The coloring of total fuzzy graphs and its applications are well studied. This manuscript discusses the description of 2-quasitotal graph for fuzzy graphs. The proposed concept of 2-quasitotal fuzzy graph is explicated by several numerical examples. Moreover, some theorems related to the properties of 2-quasitotal fuzzy graphs are stated and proved. The results of these theorems are compared with the results obtained from total fuzzy graphs and 1-quasitotal fuzzy graphs. Furthermore, it defines 2-quasitotal coloring of fuzzy total graphs and which is justified.

  • An Integrated Fuzzy Best-Worst-TOPSIS Method for Evaluation of Hotel
           Website and Digital Solutions Provider Firms

    • Abstract: In todayʼs world where technology is rapidly evolving, hotels need to be the best in all conditions to be one step ahead of other competitors. Digital marketing and hotel website solutions play a lead role in this competition. Therefore, hotel websites need to be innovative, user-friendly, and descriptive. The main purpose of the study is to evaluate and rank potential hotel websites and digital solutions provider firms. Since there are various potentially competing quantitative and qualitative criteria to take into consideration in the decision-making process, a multicriteria decision-making (MCDM) method is needed. As the MCDM method, fuzzy best-worst method (FBWM) is integrated with the Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (F-TOPSIS). In this integration, FBWM is applied to determine fuzzy evaluation criteria weights and then F-TOPSIS is implemented to rank alternatives utilizing the obtained fuzzy weights. A case study is presented, where 4 alternative hotel websites and digital solutions provider firms for Paloma Hotels in Turkey are evaluated based on 9 criteria by 3 hotel managers.

  • Enhancement of Capacitated Transportation Problem in Fuzzy Environment

    • Abstract: This research work aims to study a capacitated transportation problem (CTP) with penalty cost, supplies, and demands represented by hexagonal fuzzy numbers. Based on ranking function, the supplies and demands are converted to the crisp form. Through the use of the level, the problem is converted into interval linear programming. To optimize the interval objective function, we define the order relations represented by policy maker’s choice between intervals. The maximization (minimization) problem considering the interval objective function is transformed to multiobjective optimization problem based on order relations introduced by the preference of policy makers between interval profits (costs). A numerical example is given for illustration and to check the validity of the suggested approach.

  • Evaluation of the Effect of Environmental Parameters on the Spread of
           COVID-19: A Fuzzy Logic Approach

    • Abstract: In recent months, the world has experienced the outbreak and spread of a new infectious disease, COVID-19. The spread of this disease has been so severe, and even many developed countries have struggled to manage this situation. However, some countries, such as China and Australia, have shown success in taking effective steps towards tackling the crisis. So far, some preventive measures to contain the spread of infection have emerged. Numerous studies have been undertaken worldwide in parallel in order to develop strategies to contain the virus, as well as to determine climatic or atmospheric conditions favoring COVID-19 spread. In this research, an artificial intelligence (AI) system has been adopted to assess the effective role of various environmental conditions in the spread of COVID-19. Temperature, relative humidity (RH), and UV index (UVI) of some affected countries were considered as input parameters while the total number of infected people is taken as the output variable. After plotting all available data as linguistic variables, a relationship is established between temperature, RH, UVI, and the number of infected people. From the surface graph, it can be stated that in addition to UVI, temperature and RH have a significant impact on the number of affected people.   • A New Distributed Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Method for Efficient Data Science
           Models of Medical Informatics

    • Abstract: The paper aims to propose a distributed method for machine learning models and its application for medical data analysis. The great challenge in the medicine field is to provide a scalable image processing model, which integrates the computing processing requirements and computing-aided medical decision making. The proposed Fuzzy logic method is based on a distributed approach of type-2 Fuzzy logic algorithm and merges the HPC (High Performance Computing) and cognitive aspect on one model. Accordingly, the method is assigned to be implemented on big data analysis and data science prediction models for healthcare applications. The paper focuses on the proposed distributed Type-2 Fuzzy Logic (DT2FL) method and its application for MRI data analysis under a massively parallel and distributed virtual mobile agent architecture. Indeed, the paper presents some experimental results which highlight the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed method.

  • A Strong Law of Large Numbers for Random Sets in Fuzzy Banach Space

    • Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to consider the strong law of large numbers for random sets in fuzzy metric space. Since many years ago, limited theorems have been expressed and proved for fuzzy random variables, but despite the uncertainty in fuzzy discussions, the nonfuzzy metric space has been used. Given that the fuzzy random variable is defined on the basis of random sets, in this paper, we generalize the strong law of large numbers for random sets in the fuzzy metric space. The embedded theorem for compact convex sets in the fuzzy normed space is the most important tool to prove this generalization. Also, as a result and by application, we use the strong law of large numbers for random sets in the fuzzy metric space for the bootstrap mean.

  • Mappings and Connectedness on Hesitant Fuzzy Soft Multispaces

    • Abstract: In this paper, we introduce the concept of mapping on hesitant fuzzy soft multisets and present some results for this type of mappings. The notions of inverse image and identity mapping are defined, and their basic properties are investigated. Hence, kinds of mappings and the composition of two hesitant fuzzy soft multimapping with the same dimension are presented. The concept of hesitant fuzzy soft multitopology is defined, and certain types of hesitant fuzzy soft multimapping such as continuity, open, closed, and homeomorphism are presented in detail. Also, their properties and results are studied. In addition, the concept of hesitant fuzzy soft multiconnected spaces is introduced.

  • Predicting Bank Operational Efficiency Using Machine Learning Algorithm:
           Comparative Study of Decision Tree, Random Forest, and Neural Networks

    • Abstract: The financial crisis that hit Ghana from 2015 to 2018 has raised various issues with respect to the efficiency of banks and the safety of depositors’ in the banking industry. As part of measures to improve the banking sector and also restore customers’ confidence, efficiency and performance analysis in the banking industry has become a hot issue. This is because stakeholders have to detect the underlying causes of inefficiencies within the banking industry. Nonparametric methods such as Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) have been suggested in the literature as a good measure of banks’ efficiency and performance. Machine learning algorithms have also been viewed as a good tool to estimate various nonparametric and nonlinear problems. This paper presents a combined DEA with three machine learning approaches in evaluating bank efficiency and performance using 444 Ghanaian bank branches, Decision Making Units (DMUs). The results were compared with the corresponding efficiency ratings obtained from the DEA. Finally, the prediction accuracies of the three machine learning algorithm models were compared. The results suggested that the decision tree (DT) and its C5.0 algorithm provided the best predictive model. It had 100% accuracy in predicting the 134 holdout sample dataset (30% banks) and a value of 0.00. The DT was followed closely by random forest algorithm with a predictive accuracy of 98.5% and a value of 0.00 and finally the neural network (86.6% accuracy) with a value 0.66. The study concluded that banks in Ghana can use the result of this study to predict their respective efficiencies. All experiments were performed within a simulation environment and conducted in R studio using R codes.

  • An Extended Fuzzy TODIM Approach for Multiple-Attribute Decision-Making
           with Dual-Connection Numbers

    • Abstract: The TODIM is a decision-making method that can examine the psychological behavior of decision-makers (DMs). However, the traditional TODIM method has still not been having the ability to overcome fuzzy information such as interval values and linguistic variables. This paper proposes an extended TODIM decision-making model for multiple-attribute decision-making (MADM) problems in a linguistic environment using dual-connection numbers (DCNs). The extended model uses linguistic variables in which the values of alternatives and criteria for both of them are formatted in the triangular fuzzy numbers (TFNs) to express the uncertain information. First, some definitions and basic operators of the TFNs and DCNs are introduced. Then, the way how to convert fuzzy information in forms of the TFNs into DCNs and the step how to transform each criterion weight value into a crisp value using the defuzzification of Minkowski are demonstrated. Furthermore, the traditional TODIM is improved to address MADM problems with DCNs, and detailed calculation steps in determining decisions are explained. Finally, an illustrative example which is a cadre selection problem is applied to demonstrate the conformity and validity of the extended TODIM method and to compare it with some other methods.

  • Fuzzy Multicriteria Decision-Making for Ranking Intercrop in Rubber
           Plantations under Social, Economic, and Environmental Criteria

    • Abstract: Rubber price instability causes great economic problems for rubber plantation in Thailand. Intercropping is an alternative way for rubber farmers in problem-solving. In this paper, we established decision-making system for plant selection in rubber fields under social, economic, and environment criteria with the use of fuzzy multicriteria decision-making (FMCDM) to rank plant options. Firstly, we modified the traditional FMCDM by defuzzification with norm centroid and developed the fuzzifier maps the norm centroid to triangular fuzzy number (TFN). According to fuzzification, the final rating evaluation of plant options are determined by total utility values. Finally, ranking of the plant options is obtained. Our modifications provided an alternative decision-making process with softer computational capability compared with the traditional method. In addition to soft computing, data visualization and analysis of the possibility in each factors could be investigated. This decision-making system was implemented in Phang-Nga Province, Thailand. Its outputs assisted the rubber farmer in selecting suitable plants for cultivation. Pros and cons of each plant options and area-based approaches were easily seen by data visualizations. This decision-making system provided beneficial information which support precision developments for rubber farmer and government agencies.

  • A Fuzzy Soft Model for Haze Pollution Management in Northern Thailand

    • Abstract: In this article, we propose fuzzy soft models for decision making in the haze pollution management. The main aims of this research are (i) to provide a haze warning system based on real-time atmospheric data and (ii) to identify the most hazardous location of the study area. PM10 is used as the severity index of the problem. The efficiency of the model is justified by the prediction accuracy ratio based on the real data from 1st January 2016 to 31st May 2016. The fuzzy soft theory is modified in order to make models more suitable for the problems. The results show that our fuzzy models improve the prediction accuracy ratio compared to the prediction based on PM10 density only. This work illustrates a fuzzy analysis that has the capability to simulate the unknown relations between a set of atmospheric and environmental parameters. The study area covers eight provinces in the northern region of Thailand, where the problem severely occurs every year during the dry season. Seven principle parameters are considered in the model, which are PM10 density, air pressure, relative humidity, wind speed, rainfall, temperature, and topography.

  • A Hybrid Neuro-Fuzzy and Feature Reduction Model for Classification

    • Abstract: The evolvement of the fuzzy system has shown influential and successful in many universal approximation capabilities and applications. This paper proposes a hybrid Neuro-Fuzzy and Feature Reduction (NF-FR) model for data analysis. This proposed NF-FR model uses a feature-based class belongingness fuzzification process for all the patterns. During the fuzzification process, all the features are expanded based on the number of classes available in the dataset. It helps to deal with the uncertainty issues and assists the Artificial Neural Network- (ANN-) based model to achieve better performance. However, the complexity of the problem increases due to this expansion of input features in the fuzzification process. These expanded features may not always contribute significantly to the model. To overcome this problem, feature reduction (FR) is used to filter out the insignificant features, resulting the network less computational cost. These reduced significant features are used in the ANN-based model to classify the data. The effectiveness of this proposed model is tested and validated with ten benchmark datasets (both balanced and unbalanced) to demonstrate the performance of the proposed NF-FR model. The performance comparison of the NF-FR model with other counterparts has been carried out based on various performance measures such as classification accuracy, root means square error, precision, recall, and f-measure for quantitative analysis of the results. The obtained simulated results have been tested using the Friedman, Holm, and ANOVA tests under the null hypothesis for statistical validity and correctness proof of the results. The result analysis and statistical analysis show that the NF-FR model has achieved a considerable improvement in accuracy and is found to be efficient in eliminating redundant and noisy information.

  • Preference Graph of Potential Method as a Fuzzy Graph

    • Abstract: An autocatalytic set (ACS) is a graph. On the other hand, the Potential Method (PM) is an established graph based concept for optimization purpose. Firstly, a restricted form of ACS, namely, weak autocatalytic set (WACS), a derivation of transitive tournament, is introduced in this study. Then, a new mathematical concept, namely, fuzzy weak autocatalytic set (FWACS), is defined and its relations to transitive PM are established. Some theorems are proven to highlight their relations. Finally, this paper concludes that any preference graph is a fuzzy graph Type 5.

  • Predicting the Performance of Rural Banks in Ghana Using Machine Learning
           Approach

    • Abstract: The idea of rural banks was introduced as a result of limited commercial bank branches in rural areas to mobilize their resources for rural development. It is also believed that financial institutions such as rural banks are powerful tools for mitigating poverty. Nevertheless, some of these banks are rather increasing the burden of people through illegal activities and mismanagement of resources. Assessing banks’ performance using a set of financial ratios has been an interesting and challenging problem for many researchers and practitioners. Identification of factors that can accurately predict a firm’s performance is of great interest to any decision-maker. The study used ARB’s financial ratios as its independent variables to assess the performance of rural banks and later used random forest algorithm to identify the variables with the most relevance to the model. A dataset was obtained from the various banks. This study used three decision tree algorithms, namely, C5.0, C4.5, and CART, to build the various decision tree predictive models. The result of the study suggested that the C5.0 algorithm gave an accuracy of 100%, followed by the CART algorithm with an accuracy of 84.6% and, finally, the C4.5 algorithm with an accuracy of 83.34 on average. The study, therefore, recommended the usage of the C5.0 predictive model in predicting the financial performance of rural banks in Ghana.
