  • Towards standardization of cultivated two species of astragalus

      Abstract: The cultivation of medicinal plants ensured a stable supply of qualitative raw materials in the drug industry. At the same time, it encourages reservation of important and unique resources of medicinal plants. Pharmacognostic characteristics of roots from Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge and Astragalus mongolicus Bge cultivated in the Kherlen Bayan-Ulaan, Khentii aimag in Mongolia have been analyzed. Namely, qualitative characteristics of roots were analyzed according to the methods of Mongolian National Pharmacopoeia and the quantity of active compound saponins was analyzed by the spectrophotometric method, including their permissible limits. According to the experiments, moisture in the two roots was determined as 10.0%. Total ash from the roots was 2.38±0.05% in A.membranaceus and 4.18±0.86% in A.mongolicus respectively. Acid-insoluble ash was 0.16±0.04% and 0.28±0.07%, water-extracted compounds were 26.83±0.30% and 37.51±1.62%, respectively, which were assured the standard requirements. The quantity of active compound saponins in the root of A.membranaceus was determined at 0.044±0.009%, while in A.mongolicus 0.028±0.006%. Hence, the root of A.mongolicus contains more water soluble compounds, especially polysaccharides, while A.membranaceus contains more saponin glycosides.   • Stabilization of oil-in-water emulsion with brewer’s yeast
           hydrolysate

      Abstract: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of spent brewer's yeast hydrolysate on the stabilization of lecithincontaining oil-in-water emulsion. The emulsion was prepared using a 1: 9 oil-to-water ratio with 8% lecithin and homogenized for
      30 min at 10,000 and 13,000 rpm. The brewer's yeast hydrolysate was added to the lecithin-based oil-in-water emulsion by 0.5%, 1.5%, and 3%, respectively. The oil droplet diameter and creaming index of emulsions were determined by comparison with the control. The stability of the emulsion containing 1.5% of brewer's yeast hydrolysate was 88.2%, and the proportion of oil droplets with a diameter of 1.5-3 μm reached 80%, which is an advantage over other options. The addition of brewer's yeast hydrolysate to the emulsion by 1.5% resulted in a 4.4-fold increase in the IC50 value of 2,2ʹ -azinobis- (3-ethyl-benzothiazolin-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) cationic radical inhibition. These results suggest that the use of 1.5% brewer's yeast hydrolysate to produce lecithin-based oil-in-water emulsion has a positive effect on emulsion stability and antioxidant activity, while increasing nutritional value.   • Bench-scale methanation of pyrolysis gases of Tavantolgoi and Baganuur
           coals

      Abstract: Bench-scale methanation experiments were performed using the mixture gases evolved in pyrolysis of Tavantolgoi weathered coal and of Baganuur thermal coal. The methanation reactor was composed of the parts of feed gas desulfurization, fixed bed main reactor, condenser and dryer of product gases. The preliminary desulfurized feed gas passed through the fixed bed methanation reactor with the three layers of Ni/Al2O3 catalyst mixed with different amounts of quartz in order to avoid from overheating in upper level of the catalyst. Methanation experiments of pyrolysis gases were performed at temperatures of 250°С and 350˚°С, in a pressure of 3 bar with a GHSV of 9000 h-1. In methanation of pyrolysis gas from the Tavantolgoi weathered coal, CH4 content was increased 10 times from 3.20% to 34.4% at 250°С, however CH4 content was increased 3 times from 9.60% to 29.4% during the methanation of Baganuur coal pyrolysis gas at 350°С.   • Comparative study of some standardization parameters of two samples of
           Aquilegia sibirica L. aerial parts

      Abstract: The aerial parts of Aquilegia sibirica L. were prepared from two different plant-geographical regions of Mongolia. Some main qualitative control parameters and a quantitative analysis of main biological active compounds of these samples were studied for a standardization of this drug. The aerial parts of Aquilegia sibirica L. were collected on June 26, 2006 at the Altai mountains, steppe, Gobi-Altai aimag, Khantaishir range, Yalaatin am (N46о105’, E97о004’) and on June 23, 2019 at the Khyangan mountains, meadow, Selenge aimag, Mandalsoum, Thunkhel village (N48o63’, E106o79’). As a result of the study, the total moisture content of the samples collected from Gobi-Altai and Selenge aimags were 8.25 ± 0.31% and 8.45 ± 0.13%, the total ash was 8.85 ± 0.17% and 9.71 ± 0.21%, and the acid insoluble ash was 0.95 ± 0.05% and 0.99 ± 0.26%, the water-extracted compounds were 26.24 ± 0.85% and 25.67 ± 0.53%, respectively. According to the analysis of main biological active compounds of these samples, the total phenolic compounds 2.8 ± 0.05% and 2.5 ± 0.05% (gallic acid equivalents), the total flavonoids 3.6 ± 0.13% and 3.67 ± 0.06% (isocytisoside equivalents), and the total tannins 0.79 ± 0.03% and 0.55 ± 0.03% (pyrogallol equivalents) were determined, respectively. Study of qualitative control parameters and quantitative analysis of main biological active compounds of this plant drug collected from different regions gave comparable results.       here conducted a study on the easy preparation of low-cost carbon nanotubes. Two graphite electrodes were placed vertically in a thick, clear plastic container with distilled water to produce a carbon nanotube with an alternating current arc. The device has a simple design and the water acts as an insulating medium and cools the system. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and infrared spectrum (FTIR) analysis of the obtained carbon soot was performed in comparison with technical multi-walled carbon nanotubes. These tests confirmed that the multi-walled carbon nanotubes were formed during the experiment.   • Study on the washability by using float sink test and thermal
           decomposition of the Mogoin gol bituminous coal

      Abstract: The Mogoin gol bituminous coal properties were determined by proximate and ultimate analysis and thermal behaviors performed using a HITACHI TG/DTA7300 thermogravimetry analyzer. Float sink test carried out by Russian standard GOST 4790-93. Results of the proximate and ultimate analyses showed that the coal has Vdaf=30.7%, Ad=10.6%, Cdaf=76.5% and Qdaf=7532 kcal/kg. According to the coal classification, the coal belongs to the J class of bimuminous coal. The rate of mass loss was maximum in the range 483°С. Yields and ash contents of the fraction were γб=49.9 and 5.6% respectively, when for the separation was used heavy liquid with 1.3g/cm3 density. In general, it can be concluded that the Mogoin gol coal belongs to the category of coals with very good washability. Therefore, it will be advantageous and economically viable to use coal concentrate with low-ash for further chemical processing.       including extracting birch bark with 96% ethanol after degreasing, extracting 96% ethanol with alkali, and extracting 96% ethanol after alkaline hydrolysis. From the three tested variants, it was found that the birch bark was extracted by 96% ethanol after alkaline hydrolysis, which can be to produce 27% yield and high-purity betulin. The purification of the extracted betulin was determined by thin-layer chromatography, melting point, and IR spectra compared with standard betulin. Extracting the 96% ethanol, after the alkaline hydrolysis method is more efficient and economical, therefore, this method is suitable for mass production and introduce into the food and cosmetic industries.       Abstract: “Tavantolgoi” deposit coal was activated with heated steam at temperature of 850oC for 180 minutes. Activated coal modified with aminopropyltriehoxylsilane-3 (APTES) to produce an adsorbent material for removal of Cr (VI) from aqueous
      solution. The adsorption properties of chemically modified coal have been investigated under various adsorption parameters such solution pH, contact time, temperature and mass of adsorbent in order to maximize metal recovery. And thermodynamic and isotherm model parameters of the process were estimated. Optimal adsorption parameters were determined as pH=3, temperature 55оC, contact time 240 minutes and maximum adsorption capacity 12.03 mg/g. Adsorption isotherm followed Freundlich isotherm model and thermodynamic parameters calculated as ΔGо= -16.435 kJ/mol, ΔHо= 7.855 kJ/mol, and ΔSо=78.768 J/mol∙K.   • Technological study on the flotation process of Manganese Ore

      Abstract: This study demonstrated the importance of appropriate flotation conditions and reagent dosage for the separation of standard manganese concentrates from low-grade manganese ores. The research object used Unagad manganese ore located in Dornogovi province. The main mineral of manganese ores was pyrolusite (MnO2). According to the chemical element analyses, the content of manganese in the primary ore was Mn-17.31%. XRD analyses revealed minerals such as quartz, pyrolusite, albite, anorthite, anorthoclase, orthoclase, and hausmannite. This study conducted the beneficiation of manganese ore by the froth flotation method. Manganese ore beneficiation tests were performed for the flotation method under the following conditions: the collector dosage with 900 g/t, 1100 g/t, 1300 g/t, 1500 g/t, and 1700 g/t, the dosage of the depressant as 570 g/t, 670 g/t, 770 g/t, and 870 g/t, and the frother with 900 g/t, pH value 8, the grade of -0.074 mm was 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% respectively. Beneficiation tests performed in the optimum conditions resulted in concentrate with Mn = 32.37%, the recovery was 57.33%, and the yield was 30%. As a result of the flotation enrichment of manganese ore, а concentrate containing 32.37% manganese was obtained.   • Review analysis on phytochemical study of Heracleum L.

      Abstract: Heracleum L. genus are used in traditional medicine area for the treatment of many disorders such as dissolving gallstones, kidney disease, gynecopathy, adenitis, anthrax, and stopping haemorrhage. The phytochemical studies of Heracleum L.
      genus have been started since the 1982s and currently 111 natural compounds isolated from 23 plant species. These includes coumarin - 71 (64%), flavonoid - 14 (12.6%), iridoid - 2 (1.8%), lignan - 3(2.7%), lipid - 7 (6.3%), polyacetylene - 3 (2.7%),
      phenylpropanoid - 1 (0.9%), and other class of compounds - 10 (9%). From these, 28 new natural compounds belonging to coumarins, iridoids and phenylpropanoid have been isolated and their molecular structures were elucidated. This genus is rich of coumarin compounds by phytochemical study. There are two specific Heracleum species, namely H.sibiricum L., and H.dissectum Ldb. that grow in Mongolia, although their phytochemistry and biological activity studies have not been performed yet.   • Hydrochemical investigation of the wells water in Bayanzurkh, Ulaanbaatar

      Abstract: This study aimed to determine water-rock interactions depending on mineralization and assess to detailed water quality  study of the well waters for drinking purpose in Bayanzurkh district. Totally, 55 well water samples were collected from 7
      subdistricts of Bayanzurkh district. Determinations of the all sample are performed by water quality parameters such as radiological, physico-chemical and chemical compositions and microbiological properties. The chemical data illustrates that the well waters were neutral to slightly alkaline, and total hardness observed in 46 water samples was soft to softer and 9 water samples was hard to very hard. The hydrochemical data indicates that 53 well waters belong to the HCO3- - Ca2+, Mg2+ type, and others are HCO3-- Mg2+ and SO42--Na+ type of water. The results were compared with National standard (MNS 0900:2018) and with World health organization (WHO, 2017) guidelines for drinking water quality. Among these 25 well waters were overrated by permissible concentration of MNS 0900:2018 and WHO guidelines for the following radiological, chemical compositions and microbiological properties. However, 30 well waters were suitable for drinking water by their permissible value of national standards. According to the Gibbs diagram, all studied well waters were belonging to the rock-water interaction dominance area which was indicated by hydrochemical processes.   • Chemical composition of the renewed fire extinguishing powder and its
           physical characteristics

      Abstract: Water, foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide and liquid chemicals are used as fire extinguishers depending on the fire types. The fire classification of ABC type includes fires caused by paper, wood, dye, fuel, oil, lubricants and flammable gases. In this work, the investigation of the procedure for re-determining the composition of prepared fire extinguishers was carried out depending on the ratio of organic and inorganic substances, and their fire extinguishing activity was tested. The Sample-1 contains about 50% of ammonium dihydrophosphate (NH4H2PO4) which is taking into account the main component and the sum of ammonium sulphate (NH4)2SO4 and other inorganic and organic components by 50%. As a result of fire extinction tests, its fire extinguishing activity was higher than that of other Samples included different ratios of substances. Based on the thermogravimetric analysis of the Sample -1, the polymerization and water release process of NH4H2PO4 was detected as endothermic effect. The weight loss was occurred by 74% and 26% remained as P2O5 when temperature reached to highest degree. Some physical parameters such as moisture content, water repellence, density and particle size were analyzed according to ISO standard method and all these important parameters showed that it can meet the requirements for fire extinguishing powder standards.
