    • Authors: Diana Aminin, Ade Oktasari, Fitria Wijayanti
ABSTRACT: Rubber fruit shells at this time not widely used. Rubber fruit shells have potential as adsorbent because they contain cellulose. Cellulose has hydroxyl and carboxyl grous which can bind to metal ions. This study aims to determine the effect of variations in contact time and initial concentration of Pb solution on the rubber fruit shell adsorbent. The longer the contact time, the adsorption capacity will increase. The optimum time of Pb adsorpsion by rubber fruit shell adsorbent occurred at 120 minutes of contact time an adsorption capacity of 3,9866 mg/g. The initial concentration of Pb solution also affects the value of the adsorption capacity and the percentage of Pb metal that will be adsorbed by the rubber fruit shell adsorbent. The greater the initial concentration of the Pb solution, the greater its absorption capacity and percentage. The best values ''for adsorption capacity and absorption percentage at 120 ppm were 11.836 mg/g and 98.64 % respectively.

ABSTRACT: The increasing use of cellulase has encouraged various studies on exploration, purification and immobilization of the enzyme. This study aimed to fractionate the crude extract of cellulase obtained from cellulolytic microbe as well as immobilize it into commercial agar. The cellulase production from cellulolytic microbe U3.1 was carried out on the media containing a specific substrate of Carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC). The crude extract of cellulase was purified by fractionation of ammonium sulfate and dialysis. The crude extract and the pure cellulase were immobilized into the agar matrix. Cellulase activity was determined based on the analysis of reducing sugars produced by enzymatic reaction with DNS reagent. The total protein content was measured by using the Biuret method. The specific activity of the crude extract and the pure cellulase was obtained from the ratio of the cellulase activity to the total protein of each fraction. Fraction 2 (cellulase purified with 20-40% saturation of ammonium sulfate) had the highest specific activity of 3.3977 x 10-3 U/µg with the purity level increased by 21.0317 times compared to the crude extract of cellulase. The optimum agar concentration for immobilization of the crude extract and the pure cellulase was 2% (b/v) and 3% (b/v) with the immobilization efficiency of 13.99% and 51.26%, respectively.

ABSTRACT: The coagulation process in wastewater treatment is an important process. The purpose of coagulation is to remove colloidal impurities so that the turbidity of wastewater can be reduced. So far, the coagulants used in the purification process are chemical coagulants, which have disadvantages because they can interfere with human health. In this study, using natural ingredients derived from plants as coagulants, namely watermelon and papaya seeds. Watermelon seed powder can reduce turbidity by up to 53.85% while papaya seeds can reduce the turbidity by 72.31%. The ability of papaya seeds to reduce turbidity is greater than that of watermelon seeds because the protein content in papaya seeds is also greater than the protein content in watermelon seeds.

Abstract: ABSTRAK: Sintesis hidroksiapatit (HAp) dari cangkang telur ayam melalui proses presipitasi basah telah berhasil dilakukan. Kondisi terbaik dalam sintesis ini terjadi pada perbandingan mol Ca/P sebesar 1,60 pada suhu 160oC   ABSTRACT: Synthesis of hydroxyapatite (HAp) from eggshell by precipitation method has been successfully done. The aim of this research was to get the optimum process condition and also to investigate the influence of the Ca/P mole ratio andthe synthesis temperature toward HAp characteristic. The powder of eggshell was calcined to get CaO which then was reacted with diammonium hydrogen phosphate by using water as solvent. Precipitation process was done by closed system in order to avoid the solvent be lost while heating up above the solvent’s boiling point. The samples then were characterized by using FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared), XRD (X-Ray Diffraction), and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). The functional groups were observed in the FTIR of the synthesized HAp are phosphate (PO43-), hydroxyl (OH-), carbonate (CO32-), and hydrogen phosphate (HPO42-). These functional groups indicate that HAp has been formed. XRD data showed the main peaks for HAp that strenghtened the truth of FTIR characterization. SEM was used to observe the morphology of the synthesized HAp that consisted of agglomerates.  The best conditions in this synthesis occured at Ca/P mole ratio of 1,60 and the synthesis temperature of 160oC.
