  • ¿El mundo real de los estudiantes'

      Abstract: Cada vez es más evidente un cambio en el discurso de los autores en didáctica de la química e investigación educativa. Quizás sea el resultado natural de la creciente exposición a una narrativa educativa que se quiere distanciar cada vez más de la memorización como último nivel de aprendizaje, o porque la tecnología y el libre acceso al conocimiento en la internet han retado al modelo tradicional de transmisión de conocimiento que se perpetuó en las escuelas durante los últimos cien años. Los autores introducen frases como “el mundo real de los estudiantes” cuando sugieren cambiar el tipo de experiencias de aprendizaje que se abordan en las aulas, llevándonos a preguntar si el mundo escolar es algo que “no es real”, o es que acaso estamos cuestionando la realidad a la que la ciencia empirista dice tener acceso, o ¿a qué se refiere dicha realidad' De acuerdo con Berger y Luckmann (1968), probablemente sería mejor decir “la realidad de la vida cotidiana o el conocimiento que orienta la conducta en la vida cotidiana”. “La vida cotidiana se presenta como una realidad interpretada por los hombres y que para ellos tiene el significado subjetivo de un mundo coherente” (Berger y Luckmann, 1968, p.34), la “suprema realidad”. Es decir, antes de que a los individuos se nos enseñe en las escuelas lo que conviene aprendamos acerca de la ciencia, y de la química en particular, ya tenemos una interpretación del mundo que ha sido mediada por el lenguaje, las interacciones con los objetos del entorno y dentro de una red de relaciones humanas. De igual manera, la realidad de la vida cotidiana tiene para los individuos diferentes grados de “interés”, que vienen determinados por la proximidad espacial y temporal. El aquí y el ahora de mi mundo cotidiano es más interesante que lo que sé que existe, pero no he “vivido de cerca”, y tampoco tengo muchas expectativas de hacerlo, o que se percibe muy lejos en el tiempo, y que probablemente no llegue a ver.

      Abstract: En este documento se da a conocer la importancia de los semiconductores orgánicos en la fabricación de dispositivos optoelectrónicos, se abordan algunos conceptos fundamentales acerca de la estructura molecular los cuales deben ser considerados en el diseño de la molécula semiconductora. Se resaltan, ventajas y desventajas de los semiconductores orgánicos frente a los semiconductores inorgánicos. Para comprender la relación estructura-propiedades de este tipo de moléculas se presentan los conceptos básicos acerca de la electrónica orgánica, la importancia de la ingeniería del band gap (Eg); así como el funcionamiento, características fisicoquímicas, propiedades optoelectrónicas y aplicaciones de celdas solares orgánicas (OPVs y DSSC), Diodos Orgánicos Emisores de Luz (OLEDs) y Transistores Orgánicos de Efecto de Campo (OFETs).

  • Mitocondrias en el cerebro y sus alteraciones en la Enfermedad de

      Abstract: Las mitocondrias son consideradas como una red mitocondrial donde se producen numerosos eventos de fusión y fisión, en las que el transporte y degradación están altamente regulados. En el cerebro, las mitocondrias y los procesos involucrados en su dinámica son importantes para sostener funciones neuronales y alteraciones en su función e integridad pueden contribuir al daño sináptico en enfermedades relacionadas con la edad como la Enfermedad de Alzheimer. En esta revisión mostramos un panorama acerca de las funciones mitocondriales en el cerebro y en los procesos de plasticidad neuronal, y hacemos énfasis en la evidencia que existe en relación con la disfunción de las mitocondrias en pacientes y en modelos de la enfermedad de Alzheimer.

  • La enseñanza-aprendizaje de la simbología química como parte del

Seguidamente se realiza un análisis de los fundamentos de este proceso, determinan dimensiones e indicadores de la variable y se diagnostica la situación actual en esta institución.   • Argumentación y aprendizaje de la Teoría Ácido-Base

      Abstract: En este trabajo se discuten los datos derivados de una intervención didáctica en clases de química de secundaria, en tres colegios diferenciados socialmente. A partir de un problema de índole socio científica relacionado con la teoría ácido-base, se propició el desarrollo de competencias argumentativas. Los hallazgos preliminares nos permiten concluir que los estudiantes desarrollan diferentes modelos argumentativos, lo que se explicaría en parte por las condiciones y ambientes de aprendizaje distintivos de estas instituciones, que favorecen una interpretación diferente entre la química escolar y el mundo real de los estudiantes.

  • Los polímeros: una progresión y propuesta didáctica

      Abstract: El presente trabajo muestra una propuesta de una secuencia de enseñanza aprendizaje sobre los polímeros, cuyo objetivo es promover habilidades científicas tales como: a) la formulación de hipótesis; b) diseño experimental, y; c) la elaboración de conclusiones, en estudiantes de primer año de educación superior. La propuesta se desarrolló desde una perspectiva de investigación basada en el diseño, su validación contempló un ciclo de elaboración-aplicación-reelaboración y se implementó en una muestra de 32 estudiantes. Para evaluar los desempeños se empleó un criterio de nivel de logro, el cual se complementó con diferentes extractos textuales provenientes de sus respuestas. Los resultados muestran que los estudiantes presentan ciertos desempeños que se podrían vincular al desarrollo de habilidades científicas, mejorando su comprensión sobre los conceptos relacionados. Finalmente, a partir de la experiencia se sugiere la incorporación de aspectos de naturaleza de las ciencias para fomentar la comprensión sobre el desarrollo del conocimiento científico y los avances tecnológicos en el área.

  • Experiencias docentes durante la pandemia: Curso experimental

Estos fueron desde, el entrar en contacto con el servicio de videoconferencia Google meet, hacer uso de la plataforma Google drive, o de la plataforma Microsoft Teams, así como el de enfrentar el problema de estar en una sesión en la que no se puede observar a los alumnos y no poder hacer uso del pizarrón.   • El abordaje de pH en contexto áulico desde la interpretación de

      Abstract: Los modelos didácticos tradicionales, aún vigentes en los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la Química, exigen al estudiantado de educación secundaria esfuerzo para acreditar aprendizajes en este espacio curricular que consideran de aplicabilidad nula, lo cual genera rechazo y desinterés. La aplicación de estrategias didácticas innovadoras contextualizadas y situadas permite a los estudiantes ser protagonistas e interpretar situaciones cotidianas a través de los contenidos brindados en la asignatura.Con esta presentación compartimos la experiencia de implementación de una secuencia didáctica referida a pH y su incidencia en el cuidado del cabello, con metodología de investigación-acción y recurso didáctico innovador ad hoc. Permite vincular contenidos de Química con el contexto y las experiencias que los alumnos viven fuera de la escuela, así como la participación y el trabajo colaborativo, utilización de las TIC, la experimentación no estructurada, la comprensión lectora, la socialización, la indagación, la reflexión y la integración de los saberes adquiridos en la resolución de situaciones problemáticas, favoreciendo la adquisición de capacidades básicas en el marco de una formación integral científico-tecnológica en consonancia con la exigencias actuales de la sociedad.

  • Problem-solving methodology in chemical technician education

      Abstract: In this article, we present the analysis of a problem-solving activity performed during a chemical technician course. We examine the contributions of the teaching-learning sequence when implemented in the development of conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal learning, focusing on environmental issues related to pesticides. In our investigation, we also report the perception of students regarding the teaching-learning sequence. The research was carried out in a public school in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil, involving 29 students of the chemical technician course. The students solved problems created to address different approaches concerning pesticides. Data were obtained by the analysis of the researchers’ field diaries and questionnaires of the class in which the students participated in the problem-solving activity. The results showed that the teaching-learning sequence favoured conceptual, procedural, and attitudinal learning related to problem-solving and the environmental hazards that pesticides can cause. It was observed that the problem-solving methodology favoured the students’ autonomy, which is the ability to self-govern, to make one’s own decisions, and to be critical and reflective.

  • Understanding the electrochemical sensors’ figures of merit using a H2O2
           sensitive, low-cost ferrite powder first generation electrode

      Abstract: The development of electrochemical sensors capable of quantifying either chemical, biological, or environmental parameters of interest endorses both the increased academic and educational relevance of electrochemistry. As a result, understanding quantitative electrochemical sensing characterization and performance analysis through analytical figures of merit stands as a curricular requirement from both a theoretical and methodological standpoint as it involves the development of several skills which are highly transferable into further electrochemical education and professional practices. On the other hand, due to popular fields of applications such as non-invasive wearable electrochemical sensors for monitoring electrolytes in sweat on high-performance athletes, students are well-aware of its potential, increasing their willingness to partake in electrochemical activities. Addressing the aforementioned, the experience described herein is divided into two main sections. Firstly, a theoretical introduction regarding electrochemical sensors and electrochemical performance validation techniques known as electroanalytical figures of merit are proposed. Secondly, a hands-on experience using a H2O2sensitive ferrite powder working electrode is carried out by performing voltammetric and chronoamperometric techniques so that students develop a basic understanding of the redox processes occurring at the working electrode surface and obtain analytical performance parameters that allow conclusions to be drawn regarding the ferrite powder sensing capabilities towards H2O2 reduction. As for implementation requirements, the proposed four-hour laboratory protocol is suitable for graduate/upper-level undergraduate physical or analytical chemistry courses and, due to its length, is recommended to be conducted in groups of two to three students.

  • Constructing ‘Concept Approval Strategy,’ A Chemistry Learning Idea to
           Prevent Misconceptions

      Abstract: The research of misconceptions focuses on identification, prevention, and elimination. Misconceptions are more commonly identified and eliminated than prevented. Elimination of misconceptions tends to be ineffective because misconceptions tend to be resistant. Therefore, preventing misconceptions is a better option than eliminating misconceptions. This article reviewed some literature to design the preventing misconceptions learning. The construction is based on an analysis of effective chemical learning strategies implemented to overcome misconceptions. Learning expected can prevent chemical misconceptions includes four components: (1) improving formal thinking ability; (2) emphasizing concepts constructed by students fundamentally; (3) involving chemical representation; and (4) developing students' positive attitudes towards chemistry. The closest learning approach to preventing misconceptions is guided-inquiry oriented learning. However, there are no stages in the inquiry learning phase detecting the misconceptions before they are applied. The students who have misconceptions can revise them during the concept validation stage. Students can apply valid concepts constructed during the application and problem-solving stages. So, the learning stages designed for preventing misconceptions are (1) Exploration; (2) Concept construction; (3) Concept Validation; (4) Concept Application; and (5) Problem-solving.

  • Analysis of the mental model about the atom concept in Spanish 15- to 18-
           years old students

      Abstract: The present research investigates the mental models about the atom of Spanish 15- to 18- years old students. A sample of 454 students was taken into account within a representative Spanish context. A specific questionnaire, validated before students solved it, where the students should draw, define and argue was designed. It has been found that most of the students understand the atom as a mix of several models. In general, the models they mix are those that they studied during their last educational course. Some students possess a unique mental model about the atom (Bohr´s model), and a really few students described the atom as it could be expected according to their educational level. Several reasons have been appointed among them are: i) the construction of a mental model is a hard and slow process, even more in the case of the atom, ii) this is a complex concept which requires abstraction and to use spatial knowledge in very young students, and iii) teachers offer to students few situations to check their mental models, and thus, it takes so much time to find the strengths and weaknesses of their models.

  • A Bibliometric Analysis on Chemistry Virtual Laboratory

      Abstract: A virtual laboratory is a growing research topic in chemistry education during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a promising alternative solution to equip students with laboratory knowledge and skills. A review of the extent of research and publications using virtual laboratories is needed to map the opportunities and challenges on this topic. Therefore, this study reviews bibliometric literature on virtual laboratories in chemistry education. Free VOSviewer and PoP software were used for data mining and mapping. A total of 117 related articles retrieved from the Google Scholar database from 2011 to 2021, selected based on the title and abstract requirements, were used as the source of the review. This study indicated that a virtual laboratory had been developed on various chemical topics such as chemical bonds, chemical equilibrium, and acid-base. Developing virtual laboratories on other topics that involve students as developers by providing STEM projects can be an alternative topic for further research. It is expected that this study provides a mapping of virtual laboratories in chemistry education to better understand the challenges and opportunities of implementing and researching virtual laboratories in chemistry education

  • Luigi chiozza. The chemistry of organic acids

      Abstract: Luigi Chiozza (1828-1889) was an Italian chemist who made a detailed study of the preparation, properties, and reactions of organic acids. While studying the reaction of ammonium sulfide with nitrocinnamic acid, he discovered the new compound, carbostyril (2-hydroxyquinoline). He also synthesized monochlorobenzoic acid (o-chlorobenzoic acid) by treating the chlorination product of salicylic acid with phosphorus pentachloride with water. Alone, or with Gerhardt, he developed efficient processes for the preparation of simple and mixed acid anhydrides, as well as numerous  new primaries, secondary, and ternary amides.       Abstract: Nossa sociedade é uma estrutura racista derivada de 350 anos de colônia escravocrata que perpetua violências contra grupos sociais divergentes da heteronormatividade. Defendemos que é a educação nossa maior aliada na reconstrução desta sociedade. Com elementos de uma pesquisa participante, objetivamos o desenvolvimento de uma vivência intercultural centrada na produção de cientistas negras e seus universos identitários para o processo de educação não formal em uma Organização não governamental - ONG feminista negra. Nossos resultados demonstram que ao pensarmos no enfrentamento do racismo, machismo e a LGBTIfobia não podemos pensar em ações particionadas. Nesse sentido, formar professoras/es passa também por uma formação política e comprometida com a superação das barreiras e limitações que alguns grupos sociais passam para serem aceitas/os e valorizadas/os. Nossos resultados também mostram que as ONGs podem auxiliar na formação inicial e continuada das/os professoras/es de química, sendo uma alternativa de operacionalização e resistência da população negra e LGBTI.

  • Obsolete Models in Introductory and Organic Chemistry

      Abstract: En el presente artículo se discuten dos modelos en química que consideramos obsoletos: el modelo de orbitales atómicos híbridos (HAO) y el modelo de repulsión de los pares de electrones de la capa de valencia (VSEPR). Se presenta una discusión exhaustiva, con ejemplos de moléculas hipervalentes y de elementos de grupo principal, de los conflictos conceptuales que surgen a raíz del uso de los HAO en cursos introductorios de química para la explicación de algunos fenómenos, por ejemplo los supuestos pares de electrones. También, VSEPR muestra ser problemático. La relación entre HAO, VSEPR y las estructuras de resonancia manifesta anomalías.
