      We developed a simple and selective fluorescent aptasensor for the detection of oxytetracycline (OTC) using aptamer-conjugated gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) and a complex formed between oxytetracycline and a europium cation. In this study, AuNPs were modified with an OTC aptamer using two methods (Tween and NaCl methods).

      A new Cs-γ-CD-MOF material was synthesised by an improved gas vapour diffusion method. The adsorption capacity of γ-CD (142.92 mg g−1) and Cs-γ-CD-MOFs (280.05 mg g−1) for myricetin was compared. The energy and conformation of the adsorption of myricetin on Cs-γ-CD-MOFs were obtained by molecular docking.

      Increased protein sialylation on the tumour cell surface of up to 40–60 % through upregulation of sialyltransferase enzymes is strongly correlated with tumour growth, survival, and metastasis. Inhibiting sialylation represents a potential new cancer treatment strategy. In this account, we summarise our recent developments on the design, synthesis, and biological evaluation of synthetically accessible sialylation inhibitors with improved properties over earlier-generation inhibitors.

      The ability of a polymer self-assembly to ‘shape-shift’ between different nanoscale morphologies is becoming an increasingly important capability in materials science, offering a compelling mechanism for an ensemble of polymer nanoparticles to alter their structures and thus physicochemical properties in response to applied stimuli. This review focuses on advances in the development and mechanistic understanding of stimuli-induced morphology transformation of block copolymer self-assemblies.

      PULCON (Pulse Length-Based Concentration Determination) is a powerful, versatile, non-invasive, and accurate technique for measuring solution concentrations via routine NMR spectroscopy. It is particularly useful for preparing accurate solutions of compounds for biological assays, and avoids weight-based errors caused by contaminants (e.g. moisture). This article provides an introductory guide for biological and medicinal chemists, and highlights the diversity of applications.

      This paper proposes a colourimetric aptasensor for detecting tebuconazole (TEB) based on the interaction between TEB, a TEB-specific aptamer, and gold nanoparticles (AuNPs). The results show that the aptasensor has a linear TEB concentration range from 20–400 nM and a good limit of detection (LOD) of 4.13 nM.

      SOMO−HOMO conversion is a phenomenon in which the SOMO is lower in energy than the doubly occupied molecular orbitals (HOMO). A non-Aufbau electronic structure leads to unique properties such as a switch in bond dissociation energy and the generation of high-spin species on one-electron oxidation. In this review article, we summarise the chemistry of SOMO−HOMO converted species reported to date.

This review provides an overview of chemical strategies explored to synthesise peptide–oligonucleotide conjugates.

      Single molecule conductance values of symmetrically and asymmetrically contacted tolane (diphenylacetylene) compounds are found to be in excellent agreement with the predictions made on the basis of a recently proposed ‘molecular circuit law’. The experimental verification of the circuit law gives further confidence in the use of this relationship in the design of compounds for use in molecular electronics research.

      2,7-Bis(2-pyridyl)-1,8-naphthyridine (BPNP) has been widely used to prepare bimetallic transition metal complexes, but no examples with zinc have been reported. Herein we show that zinc binds weakly to BPNP, and the fluxional nature of these species leads to an array of monometallic and multimetallic zinc complexes of BPNP.
