  • Three Compounds Constructed from 2-Chloro-4-ferrocenylbenzoate and
           N-Containing Ligands: Synthesis, Crystal Structures, and Microbiological
           Studies

      Abstract: Self-assemblies of the flexible ferrocenyl 2-chloro-4-ferrocenylbenzoate with Cd2+cations in the presence of N-containing ligands result in three compounds, namely, [Cd(η1-OOCClH3C6Fc)(η2-OOCClH3C6Fc)(Рhen)(H2O)] (I), [Cd(η2-OOCClH3C6Fc)2(2,2'-bipy)] (II) and [(HOOCClH3C6Fc)2(4,4'-bipy)] (III) (Fc = (η5-C5H4)Fe(η5-C5H5), phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, 2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine, 4,4'-bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine). Their structures have been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses (CIF files CCDC nos. 1874492 (I), 1874493 (II), 1874494 (III)) and further characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectra. Crystallographic characterization shows that both I and II are mononuclear complexes exhibiting the 0D structures, while compound III gives a supramolecular structure. Notably, various C−H∙∙∙π interactions and C−H∙∙∙Cl interactions are discovered in I−III, and they have significant contributions to self-assembly, which extend mononuclear structures to infinite 3D supramolecular networks. Moreover, the microbiological properties of I−III were studied. Compared with clinical drugs, I showed pretty good antibacterial activity. We presumed that the good lipophilic nature of I and the strong toxicity of Cd2+ ion may be responsible for the good antibacterial activities.

      Abstract: The reaction of heterocyclic phosphine ligand, 1,3-di-p-tolyl-5-(5'-allyl-2'-ethoxybenzyl)-1,3-diaza-5-diazaphosphacyclohexane (L), containing a functional substituent at phosphorus, with (1,5-cyclooctadiene)dichloroplatinum(II) and nickel(II) chloride gave complexes PtCl2L2 (I) and NiCl2L2 (II), respectively, with the cis- and trans-configurations of the central ion. The structure of the complexes was determined by X-ray diffraction (CIF files CCDC no. 2097704 (I), 2097705 (II)).

  • Antibacterial Films of Composite Materials Based on the Biocompatible
           Metal–Organic Framework MOF-5 and Hydrocolloids

      Abstract: The preparation of a new type of packing for food products using biocompatible functional materials is based on the quality control and safety of food products. Composite films of the hydrocolloid matrix including kappa carrageenan and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose with particles of the biocompatible metal-organic framework MOF-5 bearing the antibacterial agent (sodium benzoate) immobilized in the pores are prepared. The manifested resistance of the prepared films to potentially pathogenic microorganisms provides wide prospects for manufacturing antimicrobial composite materials of food packing.

  • Synthesis and Structures of Tris(3-fluorophenyl)antimony Dicarboxylates
           (3-FC6H4)3Sb[OC(O)R]2 (R = СH2С6H4F-3, С6H3F2-2,3, and С6F5)

      Abstract: Tris(3-fluorophenyl)antimony dicarboxylates (3-FC6H4)3Sb[OC(O)R]2 (R = СH2С6H4F-3 (I), С6H3F2-2,3 (II), and С6F5 (III)) are synthesized via oxidative addition from tris(3-fluorophenyl)antimony, carboxylic acid, and tert-butyl hydroperoxide in a diethyl ether solution. The structures of the compounds are characterized by IR spectroscopy, 1Н, 13С{1Н}, and 19F{1Н} NMR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction (CIF files CCDC nos. 2055807 (I), 2055816 (II), and 2055817 (III)). The crystals of complexes I−III contain the trigonal bipyramidal molecules with the axially arranged carboxylate ligands.

      Abstract: Methods for the synthesis were developed and new homo- and heterometallic cadmium ([Eu2Cd2(MeCN)4(C6F5COO)10] (I), [Tb2Cd2(MeCN)6(C6F5COO)10]·4MeCN (II)) and zinc ([Zn(H2O)(C6F5COO)2] (III), [Eu2Zn2(MeCN)4(C6F5COO)10] (IV)) complexes were characterized. These complexes can be used as precursors for the synthesis of compounds with N-donor ligands. Complexes I and II differ in the coordination of the MeCN molecule, which is coordinated in II by each Tb3+ ion. Also, additional coordination of MeCN induces a greater distortion of the {Tb2Cd2} metal core of II. The crystal packing in I–IV is stabilized by numerous intermolecular O…H, F…F, C–H…F, and C–H…O contacts. The new compounds were characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction (CCDC no. 2076524 (I), 2082731 (II), 2082803 (III), 2076525 (IV)), IR spectroscopy, C,H,N elemental analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction.

  • o-Benzoquinone Cobalt Complexes Bearing Organosilicon Radicals:
           Quantum-Chemical Study

      Abstract: A computer modeling (DFT UTPSSh/6-311++G(d,p)) of electronic structures, geometric parameters, energy characteristics, and magnetic properties of the mononuclear cobalt complexes with tetradentate N-donor bases (tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amines and N,N'-dialkyl-2,11-diaza[3.3]-(2,6)pyridinophanes) and o-benzoquinones comprising triangulene organosilicon radicals was performed. Paramagnetism of all states of the studied molecules is predicted. It is ascertained that the electronic configurations and energy characteristics of the isomers of the complexes under study are controlled by alkyl substituents in the ancillary N-donor ligands. The compounds capable of manifesting thermally initiated spin state switching rearrangements via spin-crossover and valence tautomerism mechanisms are revealed.

           2,3-Bis(diphenylphosphinyl)buta-1,3-diene and
           3,4-Bis(diphenylphosphinyl)-2,5-dimethylhexa-2,4-diene

      Abstract: The extraction properties of 2,3-bis(diphenylphosphinyl)buta-1,3-diene (L1) and 3,4-bis(diphenylphosphinyl)-2,5-dimethylhexa-2,4-diene (L2) with respect to f elements are studied for the extraction of microquantities of U(VI) and Th(IV) from HNO3 solutions with solutions of the extracting agents in 1,2-dichloroethane. The introduction of methyl groups into the 1,3-butadiene carbon skeleton of bis(phosphine oxide) increases the efficiency of U(VI) extraction. The coordination properties of bis(phosphine oxides) L1 and L2 are studied for the complexes with uranyl nitrate. The crystal structures of bis(phosphine oxide) L1·THF (CIF file CCDC no. 2107403) and its complexes with uranyl nitrate I and II (CIF files CCDC nos. 2107404 and 2107405, respectively) are confirmed by X-ray diffraction data.

  • Synthesis, Structure and Magnetic Properties of New Ionic Ni–Yb Nitrate
           Complexes with 2,2'-Bipyridine and 1,10-Phenanthroline

      Abstract: New heterometallic nitrate complexes, namely [Ni(bipy)3][Yb(NO3)5]·0.58MeOH (I), [Ni(phen)3][Yb(NO3)5] (II) and [Ni(phen)3][Yb(NO3)5]·MeOH (II·MeOH), have been prepared and studied. Anions [Yb(NO3)5]2– in these complexes are the first examples of homoleptic ten-coordinatied Yb complexes. The magnetic behavior of single-phase I and II has been studied in static and dynamic modes. A field-induced slowdown of magnetic relaxation, i.e., properties of single-ion magnets (SIMs), was revealed for I and II. Thus, I and II are rare examples of 3d−4f-coordination compounds possessing a discrete structure rather than a joint metal core and demonstrating a slowdown in the relaxation of magnetization. The interplay between the properties of SIM and structural features of I and II was established (CIF CCDC files no. 2103796 (I), 2103797 (II), 2103798 (II·MeOH)).

      Abstract: β-Aminovinyl ketone (2-nitro-3-(8-quinolylamino)prop-2-enal) was synthesized by condensation of nitromalondialdehyde with 8-aminoquinoline. The reactions of β-aminovinyl ketone with copper, nickel, and cobalt acetates in methanol gave metal complexes. The spectral and magnetic characteristics of preparatively isolated compounds were studied. The structure of cobalt(II) chelate was determined on the basis of X-ray diffraction study (CIF file CCDC no. 2109263).

  • Lanthanide Iodide Nitride Sulfide Clusters

      Abstract: The reaction of [(NdI)3N2] (I) with Cp3Er in the presence of sulfur in THF gave CpNdI2(THF), NdI(S2N2)(THF), and an unidentified erbium compound. A similar reaction of [(DyI)3N2] yielded CpDyI2(THF) and ErI(S2N2)(THF). When I reacted with ErCl3, the clusters [Nd2ErClI4-(S2)(S2N2)(THF)7] and [Nd2ErCl2I3(S2)(S2N2)(THF)7] were formed in 33–34% yield. From the mixture of reaction products of [(DyI)3N2] with sulfur and NdI3, only [Nd2DyI5(S2)(S2N2)(THF)7] was isolated in a minor yield and identified. Europium diiodide EuI2 almost did not react with complex I and sulfur under the chosen conditions.   • New Silver Complexes with Triarylstibine Ligands: Specific Features of the

      Abstract: The reactions of silver nitrate with triphenyl-, tri(para-tolyl)-, and tris(2-methoxy-5-bromophenyl)stibine in polar solvents afford complexes [(Ph3Sb)3AgNO3], [(p-Tol3Sb)4Ag][NO3] (I), and [(2-MeО-5-Br-C6H3)3SbAg(μ2-NO3)(Ме3CN)]2·2[(2-MeО-5-Br-C6H3)3SbAgNO3(Ме3CN)] (II). Complex [(Ph3Sb)3-AgNO3] reacts with chloroacetic and ferrocenecarboxylic acids in the presence of triethylamine to form the corresponding carboxylates [(Ph3Sb)3AgOC(O)CH2Cl] (III) and [(Ph3Sb)3AgOC(O)C5H4FeC5H5] (V). Solvate [(Ph3Sb)3AgOC(O)CH2Cl] (IV)·1/2С4Н8О2 is formed after the recrystallization of complex III from dioxane. The silver and antimony atoms in all complexes are found by X-ray diffraction to be tetracoordinate (CIF files CCDC nos. 1985086, 2019358, 1984428, 1992301, and 1973285 for compounds I–V, respectively).

  • Coordination Chemistry and Magnetic Properties of Bi- and Polynuclear
           Exchange-Coupled Cu(II) and Ni(II) Metal Oximates

      Abstract: This review is an attempt to describe the potential of magnetochemical approach for describing the structure and properties of bi- and polynuclear metal chelates based on coordination compounds with a limited number of ligand types, mainly oxime-containing azomethines and their analogues. The review systematically addresses the published data on bi- and polynuclear copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes in which the paramagnetic centers are coupled by both intra- and intermolecular exchange interactions. Within the limited analysis, the main types and mechanisms of exchange interactions are considered and some electronic and geometric factors that determine the magnetic properties of bi- and polynuclear copper(II) and nickel(II) complexes with oximate ligands are identified. The relationship between electronic and geometric features of the complexes and the nature of exchange effects are considered, and an attempt is made to systematize the magneto-structural correlations in the discussed compounds, which are important model objects for developing a strategy for targeted design of one-, two-, and three-dimensional magnetically ordered structures.

  • Rhenium Tris(pyrazolyl)borate Complexes with O-Donor Ligands: Synthesis
           and Structures

      Abstract: The reaction of TpReOCl2 (Tp is the tris(pyrazolyl)borate anion) with methanol in the presence of triethylamine affords new rhenium alkoxide complex TpReO(OMe)2 (I). Unlike the starting complex resistant to hydrolysis, complex I reacts with water in toluene to form the dimeric complex [TpReO(μ-O)]2 (II). The action of a large amount of water in acetone also leads to the decomposition of some Tp ligands and formation of the cationic complex [(TpReO)2(μ-O)(μ-C3H3N2)]ReO4 (III) with the pyrazolate bridging ligand and perrhenate anion on the external sphere. The treatment of complex I with acetic anhydride gives the rhenium tris(pyrazolyl)borate complex bearing terminal acetate substituents TpReO(OAc)2 (IV). The synthesized complexes are characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy, and their structures are determined by X-ray diffraction (CIF files CCDC nos. 2081834 (I), 2081835 (II), 2081836 (III), 2081837 (IV)).

  • Synthesis and Structure of Heterometallic Palladium and Iron Complexes

      Abstract: Heterometallic palladium(II) complexes with ferrocenecarboxylic acid FcCOOH were synthesized and structurally characterized for the first time. The reactions of mononuclear [Pd(Py)2(OOCMe)2] and [Pd(Phen)(OOCMe)2] complexes with FcCOOH were accompanied by easy displacement of acetate anions from the inner sphere by the ferrocenecarboxylate anions to give iron-containing molecular palladium complexes: three solvatomorphs of [Pd(Py)2(FcCOO)2] with benzene (I, II) and dichloromethane (III); the use of [Pd(Phen)(OOCMe)2] as the starting compound resulted in the formation of the heteroligand acetate ferrocenecarboxylate [Pd(Phen)(FcCOO)2Pd(Phen)(FcCOO)(OOCMe)] (IV). Fully substituted [Pd(Phen)(FcCOO)2] (V) was prepared by successive treatment of palladium acetate [Pd3(OOCMe)6] with FcCOOH and 1,10-phenanthroline. The structures of complexes I–V were studied by X-ray diffraction (CIF files CCDC nos. 2078399–2078403).

  • Tetranuclear Hydroxo Complexes of Rare-Earth Elements with the Cubane Core
           as Products of Self-Controlled Hydrolysis

      Abstract: Tetranuclear hydroxo complexes [La4(Deta)4(OH)4(Tfa)3(DetadcH)2](HTfa)(H2O)7(Tfa)3 (I) and [Nd4(Deta)4(OH)4(Tfa)3(DetadcH)2](H2O)n(Tfa)3 (II) with diethylene-N,N′-dicarbamate anions (DetadcH–) are synthesized for the first time by the reactions of lanthanum trifluoroacetate and neodymium trifluoroacetate with a solution of diethylenetriamine (Deta) in air under the self-controlled hydrolysis conditions and are characterized by X-ray diffraction, powder X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Compounds I and II contain the same-type complex cationic fragment with the cubane metal–oxygen core stabilized due to four chelate Deta ligands and two bridging DetadcH– ligands. The DFT calculations of the geometry and vibrational spectrum of the [La4(Deta)4(OH)4(Tfa)3(DetadcH)2]3+ complex cation are performed.

  • Copper(II) and Cobalt(II) Carboxylates Containing the 1,3,4-Oxadiazole
           Fragment: Structures and Properties

      Abstract: Complexes [Сu2L4(MeOH)2] (I) and [СoL2] (II) are synthesized by the reactions of copper(II) and cobalt(II) acetates with 3-[5-p-tolyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl]acrylic acid (HL). The crystal structure of complex I is determined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) (CIF file CCDC no. 2052347). The crystals are monoclinic, space group C2/c, a = 26.056(4), b = 19.677(3), c = 13.998(2) Å, β = 91.571(3)°, V = 7175(2) Å3, ρcalc = 1.026 g/cm3, Z = 4. In a molecule of complex I, the pair of centrosymmetric copper atoms is bound by four bridging carboxyl groups. The intramolecular Cu…Cu distance is 2.654(2) Å. The coordination polyhedron CuO5 is a distorted square pyramid. The magnetic interactions between the copper(II) ions in complex I are shown to be antiferromagnetic (2J = –185 cm–1). In the case of complex II, the application of an external magnetic field decreases the magnetic relaxation rate. The Raman mechanism and direct mechanism are the most probable route for magnetization relaxation. Unlike the copper(II) complex, complex II is probably mononuclear in both the solution and solid phase.

  • Functionalization of Aerogels with Coordination Compounds

      Abstract: Aerogels are unique solid-phase materials characterized by very high open porosity and specific surface area. Owing to these features, aerogels are widely used as heat and sound insulators, gas filters, sorbents, and others. In addition, aerogels are promising matrices for manufacturing selective catalysts, gas sensors, luminophores, etc. Methods and approaches of coordination chemistry provide new possibilities for designing novel hybrid materials characterized by a combination of practically important physicochemical properties inherent in aerogels and metal complexes. The modification of aerogels with coordination compounds gives polyfunctional materials characterized by high porosity and specific surface area along with excellent catalytic, photocatalytic, magnetic, luminescence, and other properties. The approaches of coordination chemistry providing the chemical binding of coordination compounds with the aerogel matrix to form aerogels with new functional properties are generalized and examined for the first time. The known examples for the successful accomplishment of these approaches, including those proposed earlier by the authors, are considered. The data on the practical use of thus prepared materials are presented.

  • Crystal Structures and Fluorescent Properties of Two Distinct 2D
           Ag(I)/Cd(II) Coordination Polymers Based on Isonicotinic Acid Derivative
           and Dipyridyl Coligand

      Abstract: Two novel coordination polymers obtained by hydrothermal reaction of Ag(I) nitrate and Cd(II) acetate salts with 3,5-dichloroisonicotinic acid and 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane flexible ligand have been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction (CIF files nos. 2082469 (I) and 2082471 (II)), elemental analyses, thermogravimetric analyses, powder X-ray diffractions and fluorescent spectra, formulated as {[Ag(Bpp)](Dcia)}n (I) and [Cd(Dcia)2(Bpp)2]n (II) (HDcia = 3,5-dichloroisonicotinic acid, Bpp = 1,3-bis(4-pyridyl)propane). The single-crystal X-ray diffractions reveal that two complexes show different 2D {63} hcb topological nets and (4,4) grid layers displaying remarked structural sensitivity to metal cation. Among them, complex I displays 2D unusual cationic layer developed by T-shaped Bpp-bridging Ag–Ag building units. Complex II exhibits 2D grid layer jointed by Dcia ligand with dangling Bpp ligand, which further interlinked into 3D supramolecular architecture by π–π interactions. In addition, luminescent properties of both complexes are also systematically investigated.

  • Thermodynamic Characteristics of Silver Perfluorobenzoates
           C6F5COOAg·0.5C6F5COOH and C6F5COOAg

      Abstract: The thermodynamic characteristics of silver perfluorobenzoates C6F5COOAg·0.5C6F5COOH and C6F5COOAg were studied by thermogravimetry, differential scanning calorimetry, and mass spectrometry. It was found that vaporization of these compounds occurs incongruently to give metallic silver and C6F5COOH, C12F10, CO2, and C18F14 molecules. Using the 2nd and 3rd laws of thermodynamics, the standard enthalpy of formation of silver perfluorobenzoate was found to be \({{\Delta }_{{\text{f}}}}H_{{{\text{298}}}}^{^\circ }\) (C6F5COOAg, cr) = –1195.6 ± 15.7 kJ/mol and the standard enthalpy of formation of the pentafluorobenzoic acid radical was estimated to be \({{\Delta }_{{\text{f}}}}H_{{{\text{298}}.{\text{15}}}}^{^\circ }\) (C6F5COO•, cr) = –878.6 ± 25.0 kJ/mol.

  • 1,1'-Diphenyl-bis(silatrane) as the First Structurally Characterized
           bis(silatrane)

      Abstract: 1,1'-Diphenyl-bis(silatrane) (I) was obtained by the reaction of tris(1,3-dihydroxypropan-2-yl)amine (L) with PhSi(OEt)3 in toluene. The molecular structure of complex I was established by X-ray diffraction (CIF file CCDC no. 2078347). Study of the redox properties of new bis(silatrane) I demonstrated that its radical ions generated by cyclic voltammetry are stable since the radical center located on the nitrogen atom is sterically protected within the bis(atrane) cage.
