  • Revised Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (Brief Version): Analysis with
           Item Response Theory

The aim of this work is to provide new evidence of psychometric quality for the Argentinean adaptation of the brief version of the Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ-RS). 1136 people from the general population (52.5% female, mean age = 29.6 years, SD = 11.9) residing in Buenos Aires, Argentina participated. The Argentinean adaptation consists of 42 items with dichotomous response format. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed from the tetrachoric correlation matrix. This allowed replicating the structure proposed by Eysenck for the PEN model (Psychoticism - Extroversion - Neuroticism) and the Lie scale. Subsequently, the two-parameter logistic model was adjusted separately for the items of each scale. The items did not show differential functioning by gender. Items discrimination was moderate-high. Parameters b were located in narrow ranges of each one of the measured traits, which caused the precision of the scales to vary along the trait continuums. The Neuroticism scale provides more information at medium levels of the trait, Psychoticism in the medium-low and Extraversion in the medium-high. The Lie scale showed a relatively flat information function throughout the trait. Evidence of validity based on the relationship with other tests that measure facets of neuroticism and symptomatology is provided. The evidence of validity and reliability obtained offers sufficient quality guarantees for the application of this instrument in the local context and confirms topicality of the theoretical model that operationalizes the EPQ-RS.
  • Mismatch negativity and P3a in patients with Schizophrenia

Abstract Background: schizophrenia is a chronic disease that generates great disability, which currently has potential biomarkers but without sufficient clinical validity. Mismatch negativity (MMN) and P3a are event-related potentials that have been shown to be neurophysiological indicators of pre-attentional auditory processing and potential biomarkers. Objective: to evaluate MMN and P3a in patients with a diagnosis of schizophrenia and their relationship with sociodemographic and clinical variables. Method: a quantitative cross-sectional study of 23 subjects with schizophrenia and 22 healthy controls was performed. The average amplitudes and latencies of the MMN/P3a for the condition infrequent in duration and infrequent in frequency were obtained using an auditory oddball paradigm on a 32-channel EEG. Results: differences were found for the frequency condition in the amplitude of the MMN (p=0.046; 95% CI 0.009; 0.87) and the amplitude of the P3a (p=0.042; 95% CI 0.025; 1.24) between the groups; MMN amplitude was lower in schizophrenia (-0.36 SD 0.51 µV) compared to healthy controls (-0.81 SD 0.89 µV), while P3a amplitude was lower in healthy controls (0.18 SD 0.97 µV) versus the group with schizophrenia (0.82 SD 1.05 µV). In regard to sociodemographic and clinical variables, the associations with P3a were moderate, and showed weak MMN. Conclusions: MMN amplitude reduction to the frequency condition exhibits greater utility than P3a as a measure of high stability in schizophrenia, restating its potential use as a biomarker.
  • Family functioning and internet addiction in adolescents

Abstract This study aimed at exploring how family functioning variables are related to internet addiction. The final sample consisted of 568 participants, aged between 14 and 18, who attend Secondary Education, in a district in the North Region of Portugal. A Sociodemographic Questionnaire, the Internet Addiction Test (IAT) and the Systemic Clinical Outcome Routine Evaluation (SCORE-15) were used. It was found that 73.1% of the participants had mild to moderate addiction, but there were no differences in internet addiction between male and female. On the other hand, differences in terms of family functioning have been verified, with male presenting slightly more difficulties in communicating in the family and more family difficulties. Differences were observed between the study groups (normal users, users with mild dependence and users with moderate dependence) in all dimensions of family functioning. In addition, it was possible to observe positive associations between the dimensions of family functioning and internet addiction. Finally, it was found that communication in the family was the only variable of family functioning that had a predictive role in internet addiction. Therefore, difficulties in family functioning, especially in communication among the members, seem to play a fundamental role in the development of internet addiction, and it is crucial to develop preventive actions, to promote healthy family functioning, as well as healthy internet use. • Relationship among materialism, attitudes regarding money, peer influence
and satisfaction with life in chilean adolescents

    • Abstract: Abstract Materialism has been recognized as an important variable in postmodern societies; however, most of the studies on this concept have focused on the adult population. The aim of the present study is to determine the possible association between materialism and life satisfaction, and the possible mediating role of attitudes towards money and peer influence in this association, in a sample of Chilean adolescents. A sample of 1325 Chilean secondary school students completed a questionnaire measuring materialism, attitudes in regards with money, susceptibility to peer influence, and satisfaction with life. First, a confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to validate the scalers. Secondly, a theoretical model was tested using Hayes (2013) SPSS macro, PROCESS. The theoretical model included materialism as the predictor variable, satisfaction with life as the predicted variable, and attitudes towards money and susceptibility to peer influence as mediator variables. Results indicate that materialistic attitudes regarding money strengthens a negative relation between materialism and satisfaction with life. This tendency is not observed in susceptibility to peer influence despite being positively associated with materialism and attitudes regarding money. These findings suggest that the variables materialism and attitudes regarding money play a relevant role in the life satisfaction of Chilean adolescents.
  • Emotional Processing in Children and Adolescents According to Sex

Abstract Objective: to analyze emotional processing in Argentine school-age children and adolescents according to sex. Method: descriptive-comparative study with an ex post facto, cross-sectional design. 67 girls and 74 schooled boys aged between 7 and 14, participated in the research divided into three age ranges. The 60 specific images for children and adolescents from the International Affective Picture System (IAPS) were used to assess emotional processing, and the Self-Assessment Manikin (SAM) was used to measure evaluative judgments. Results: the distribution of the images shows a moderate negative correlation between valence and arousal, with similar values in both sexes. Women scored lower in valence and arousal compared to men, although without statistically significant differences. The men evaluated the aversive stimuli with a lower degree of activation and the pleasant stimuli with greater activation. In general, a greater grouping of unpleasant and neutral images is observed in women compared to those of men. Conclusion: in both sexes there was an inverse relationship between valence and arousal, evidenced in greater activation in the face of unpleasant images, which would demonstrate an avoidance trend when arousal levels are high. Females reacted to unpleasant images with greater intensity while males rated pleasant images with higher degree.
  • Ideological Influences on Intergroup Attitudes in the Context of the Hague
Court Boundary Dispute between Peru and Chile

    • Abstract: Abstract In the context of the border dispute presented by Peru against Chile in the The Hague Court, this study analyzes the influences of two ideological motivational dimensions: Right-Wing Authoritarianism (RWA) and Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) on a set of intergroup attitudes that involve both nations. To this end, a survey study of 196 Chileans and 223 Peruvians participants was conducted. The instruments used to measure ideology and political attitudes are the following ones: RWA Scale; SDO Scale; Scale of Intergroup attitudes between Chile-Peru and specific questions on interest in the Hague litigation and willingness to fight for one's country. The results show that in the Peruvian case attitudes of belligerence and alert and a greater willingness to fight for the country are better explained by the RWA, while in the Chilean case these same attitudes are explained both by the RWA as well as the SDO. On the other hand, pacificist attitudes are explained inversely by SDO in both countries. These findings support the hypothesis that intergroup dynamics between both countries have been marked by expressed actions of a Chilean expansionism versus a Peruvian vengefulness and suggest that equalitarianism will promote attitudes toward respect and cooperation between both groups, changing the frames of expansionism and vengefulness for one of a culture of peace.

  • Evidence of Validity of the Multidimensional Social Support Scale (MSPSS)
           in adult Argentinian population

Abstract The present work aimed to adapt and validate the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (EMASP) for Argentine adults. The EMASP has 12 items that allow inquiring about social support from three sources: Family, Friends and Significant others. For this work, an instrumental design has been chosen. The sample was of an intentional type, consisted of 1278 adults born in Argentina aged between 18 and 83 of both sexes. In the local context, the EMASP shows adequate psychometric properties for each of the factors. Cross-validity by sex indicates that the Scale has adequate adjustment indices for both men and women. The external validity analysis revealed the indirect relationships between the different dimensions of the ESMAP with the Patient Health Questionnaire (PQH9) which assesses major depressive disorder. It is concluded that the EMASP has adequate psychometric properties for its use in the Argentine population.
  • The fall of the Teaching Tuthority in the Contemporary: a Psychoanalytic

Abstract This article reflects on the teaching authority in the context of current culture, marked by the discourses of capitalism and science, from which a new subjectivity emerges from these discourses. The objective to be developed is the incidence of the discourses of capitalism and science in the decline of teaching authority. At first, the project and the modern subjectivity based on the products of reason are approached, later it is indicated how this project is under an initial phase of suspicion, due to its effects in the 20th century and the criticism exerted by the masters of the suspicion. To end with the decline of the teaching authority, understood from two perspectives: business and epistemic that result in the foreclosure of the singularity. It is concluded that the place of teaching authority is affected by two elements: first, by the discourse of capitalism in its relationship with the discourse of science because it erases the dissymmetry of the social bond, where teacher-student bond becomes symmetrical marked by the value of equality; and second, by the push to One of the standardization of knowledge given by international educational policies in which the teacher is an instrument.
  • Transgenerationality, Family and Origin: a Preliminary Essay on the
           Pathologies of Inheritance

Abstract The main objective of this theoretical study is to articulate the notions of transgenerationality, family and origin, which are essential elements for understanding the psychic constitution. This outline constitutes a preliminary study of the pathologies of inheritance. One of the forms of transgenerational psychic transmission, or better, of transgenerationality, can be observed as a repetition through generations that is configured by the insistence of the signifying chain. The unconscious, as a trans-individual device and structured as a language, unveils the original fantasy prior to its own existence. If desire is the desire of the Other, the importance of the inflections made by the parental Other in children's discourse could not be more complete. Ancestral experiences find unconscious channels of transmission that, the less recognized the signifier, the more it will persist through generations. It is the symbolic references that allow the establishment of the difference in places between generations in the affiliation chain. These weak points when expressed in terms of symptoms seem to indicate an impossibility of representation.
