  • MINDFULNESS AND MIND-WANDERING IN PRAYER: A MIXED METHODS STUDY OF THE
ROLE OF SPIRITUALITY AND RELIGIOSITY IN ISLAMIC PREACHERS

    • Authors: Millati Syamila, Winarini Wilman D. Mansoer
Abstract: Prayer is a subjective experience that requires solemnity, by seeking a state of mindfulness and minimizing the state of mind wandering so that the prayer is done optimally. This study aims to explore the role of spirituality and religiosity to increase mindfulness and minimize mind-wandering in prayer activities, in Islamic preachers. Analysis was conducted through mixed method explanatory sequential analysis, using quantitative data with Multiple linear regression and qualitative data with Thematic analysis. Qualitative data (n = 3) was used to explore the experience of the meaning of mindfulness and mind-wandering conditions during prayer which was tested using quantitative data (n = 66). The quantitative analysis showed that mindfulness was negatively correlated with mind-wandering in prayer and that religious salience predicted mindfulness. Meanwhile, the experience of mind-wandering in prayer can be explained more qualitatively. There are 3 major themes regarding the experience of mindfulness and mind-wandering as well as the role of spirituality and religiosity in Islamic preachers, namely 1) solemn conditions, consisting of the involvement of a) mental representation, b) mental dialogue, c) expectation, d) control of consciousness, e) appreciation of life experience, and f) feeling comfortable and full of enjoyment, 2) mind-wandering distraction, which consists of the presence of a) worldly ambitions and b) perceptual distraction, and 3) spiritual atmosphere conditioning, consisting of a) preparation of prayer pillars, b) self-preparation, and c) asking for protection.

  • ACADEMIC STRESS COPING STRATEGIES USING SPIRITUAL APPROACHES TO IMPROVE
           STUDENT RESILIENCE

    • Authors: Dewi Purnama Sari, Sutarto Sutarto
Abstract: Academic stress can have a significant impact on students, both their thoughts, behaviour and emotions. Therefore, their resilience needs to be increased to resolve their problems immediately. This phenomenological research aims to explore students' experiences in increasing resilience due to academic stress by using a spiritual approach. Research informants comprised 10 students who succeeded in increasing resilience due to academic stress with coping strategies using a spiritual approach. The research data were obtained through interviews, analyzed using the Melis and Huberman analysis model, and then checked the validity of the data by submerging triangulation and extending the observations. The study results show that students use three coping strategies with a spiritual approach to deal with academic stress. First is positive thinking, which is always optimistic about the problems faced. Believing that in every problem faced, there is always a silver lining and there is a way out. Second, positive action always tries to solve problems by carrying out various positive activities. Third, positive hopping, namely always hoping and praying to Allah SWT so that he will be given strength, convenience and guidance in overcoming problems

  • LEISURE IN PSYCHOLOGY AND ISLAM: COMPARATIVE STUDIES

    • Authors: Karimulloh Karimulloh, Novika Grasiaswaty, Mustika Ema Linda Siregar
Abstract: Islam is a exhaustive religion that talks about many facets of daily life, including recreational or leisure activities. Since leisure research has always been regarded primarily through the lens of Western psychology theory, it has grown significantly in Europe and America. There hasn't been any more research done on the benefits of leisure activity participation from an Islamic perspective. This study tries to compare leisure from the viewpoints of psychology and Islam. Comparative research is conducted by reading and analysing carefully from a variety of pertinent sources, including those from Islam and psychology. The findings indicated that psychology and Islam encourage leisure activities that are beneficial for addressing psychological, educational, social, self-relaxation, and physiological demands. While Islam dictates that one's leisure time activities do not contradict with Islamic beliefs in order to create happy people in this world and the hereafter, psychology is more open in many areas.

PERSONALITY TRAITS, AND THEIR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

    • Authors: Idi Warsah, Ruly Morganna, Sharifah Nooraida, Tassim Abu Bakar, Zaenuddin Hudi Prasojo
Abstract: Prior studies seem to indicate a hypothetical concept that parenting styles and personality traits are of critical factors of academic achievements. Accordingly, the present quantitative study sought to find out the interrelationships of parenting styles, Islamic students’ personality traits, and their academic achievements. 101 Islamic students from an Islamic university in Bengkulu, Indonesia, were randomly assigned to be the samples. Their parents, 202 parents, were also involved to provide the data. The data were collected by distributing valid and reliable questionnaires to students and their parents. The results demonstrated that parenting styles had a positive and significant impact on Islamic students’ personality traits. Parenting styles had a positive and significant impact on Islamic students’ academic achievements. Islamic students’ personality traits had a positive and significant impact on their academic achievements. Lastly, both parenting styles and Islamic students’ personality traits had a positive impact on Islamic students’ academic achievements. It is recommended that further studies be undertaken in wider contexts across diverse students’ characteristics for the sake of revealing different data conditions and meanings.

  • SELF IDENTITY AND RELIGIOSITY OF MADURESE PEOPLE: INDIGENOUS CONCEPTS
BASED ON THE PERSPECTIVE OF MADURESE YOUTH

    • Authors: Diana Rahmasari, Ira Darmawanti
Abstract: This study aims to explain the identity and religiosity of the Madurese based on the perspective of Madurese teenagers. The concept of identity and religiosity refers to the concept of indigenous or local wisdom of Madurese culture. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive approach in explaining the research study. The Sources of data used in this study are primary and secondary data sources. Sources of primary data were obtained directly from Madurese youth using FGD and semi-structured interviews with 7 students of class X in Pamekasan Regency. Each student meets the requirements of being born and raised in Madura and his parents are Madurese. While the secondary data sources are data obtained from the study of books, literature, and the results of previous research on the Madurese which have relevance to the focus of this research. Interviews with Madurese cultural observers were conducted to complete primary and secondary data as a triangulation of data sources, especially to obtain information on the concept of religiosity and identity indigenously or by referring to the local wisdom of Madurese culture. The analysis of the results of the study explains that being a Madurese is having high self-esteem, of course, self-esteem in the indigenous Madurese concept, namely ajina aba ", temperamental-tempered, hardworking, overly confident, and Muslim. If they are not Muslims, then they are not Madurese. Madurese teenagers are described as Islamic Religious with strong faith and devotion to Allah SWT and implemented in the implementation of the pillars of Islam. The factor of high religiosity in Madurese youth is seen in carrying out Islamic religious worship and practices. It can also be interpreted, many Madurese teenagers perform the five daily prayers, fast, pay zakat, and perform worship or ritual obligations in Islam. Empirical and theoretical studies explain the same finding, namely the Madurese are famous for their identity with Islam and uphold religious symbols as the embodiment of local wisdom values.

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of self-regulated learning on student academic integrity with religiosity as the moderator variable. The approach used in this research is correlational causality. By using three measurement scales (self-regulated learning scale , academic integrity scale and religiosity) for 380 respondents , the results show that self-regulation learning affects academic integrity with religiosity as a moderator variable of 54.2 % . Based on the results obtained, it shows that the effect of self-regulated learning on academic integrity in students is in the form of a positive relationship, meaning that the higher the level of self-regulated learning in students, the higher the level of academic integrity . Religiosity as a moderator variable in this study illustrates that it can strengthen the influence of self- regulated learning variables on student academic integrity.
