  • Academic Self-efficacy, Performance and Access to Higher Education in a
           Pandemic Context

    • Abstract: Resumen La psicología ha constatado que las creencias en las propias capacidades tienen relación con el desempeño, por lo que cobra relevancia estudiar la percepción de autoeficacia en educación superior. El objetivo de esta investigación es determinar la relación entre autoeficacia académica, desempeño (Notas de Enseñanza Media o NEM, Prueba de Transición Universitaria o PTU, expectativas de aprobación) en estudiantes universitarios considerando el tipo de acceso a la educación superior en contexto de pandemia. El estudio fue cuantitativo, transversal con un muestreo por conveniencia. La muestra fue de 780 estudiantes chilenos dividida en un grupo de acceso regular 82.7% y el grupo proinclusión 17.3%. Se utilizó la Escala de Autoeficacia Percibida Específica de Situaciones Académicas (EAPESA) y medidas de desempeño académico. Los datos se analizaron mediante técnicas descriptivas, prueba t para muestra independiente, correlación de Pearson y análisis de varianza ANOVA de una vía. Los resultados indican que existen diferencias entre autoeficacia y medidas de desempeño según tipo de acceso a la universidad. El grupo de acceso proinclusión presentó mayor autoeficacia, mayor NEM y menor PTU. Ambos grupos presentan similares expectativas de aprobación. Se concluye que la autoeficacia difiere según vía de acceso a la universidad y según medidas de desempeño. Estudiantes con mayor autoeficacia presentan mayores expectativas de aprobación pese a las adversidades.Abstract Psychology has verified that belief in one's own abilities is related to performance, and it is important to study this perception of self-efficacy in higher education. This research analyzes the relationship between academic self-efficacy, performance (NEM, PTU, approval expectations) according to type of university access. The study was quantitative, with a cross-sectional and non probabilistic convenience sample. The sample was 780 Chilean students divided into a group of regular access (82.7%) and a pro-inclusion group (17.3%). The instruments applied were the Perceived Self-Efficacy Scale and academic performance measures. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's r correlation test, Student's t-test and one-way ANOVA. The results indicate that there are differences between self-efficacy and performance measures according to the type of university access. The pro-inclusion group presented higher self-efficacy, higher NEM and lower PTU. Both groups present similar approval expectations. We conclude that self-efficacy varies according to the type of access to the university and according to performance measures. Students with higher self efficacy will have higher approval expectations despite adversity.
       
  • Autorregulación Docente: Validación de Escalas en Chile Aplicadas con
           una Herramienta Tecnológica Online

    • Abstract: Resumen La autorregulación docente es de gran importancia porque permite un ejercicio profesional organizado y estructurado, además facilita un desempeño exitoso del proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje, permitiendo al docente monitorear la efectividad de sus prácticas pedagógicas y modelar habilidades de autorregulación en sus estudiantes. El objetivo de este estudio fue adaptar y validar escalas para medir procesos de autorregulación docente en español y con evidencia de su funcionalidad mediante la aplicación de herramientas tecnológicas. El estudio fue cuantitativo, con un diseño instrumental. La muestra estuvo constituida por 204 profesores de Educación Media de Chile. Las escalas fueron adaptadas de la Teacher Self-regulation Scale y sometidas a procedimientos de retrotraducción, entrevistas cognitivas, análisis factorial confirmatorio y análisis de confiabilidad. Los resultados mostraron estimadores adecuados de validez y confiabilidad para las siete escalas correspondientes a establecimiento de metas, interés intrínseco, orientación a metas de desempeño, orientación a metas de dominio, autoinstrucción, control emocional y autoevaluación. En conclusión, las escalas permiten una medición válida y fiable de los procesos de autorregulación de la enseñanza.Abstract Teacher self-regulation is of great importance because it allows an organized and structured professional exercise, it also facilitates a successful performance of the teaching and learning process, allowing the teacher to monitor the effectiveness of their pedagogical practices and modeling of selfregulatory skills in students. The objective of this study was to adapt and validate scales to measure teaching self-regulation processes in Spanish and with evidence of its functionality by application of technological tools. The study was quantitative, with an instrumental design. The sample consisted of 204 secondary school teachers in Chile. The scales were adapted from the Teacher Self-regulation Scale and underwent back-translation procedures, cognitive interviews, confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability analyses. The results showed adequate validity and reliability estimators for seven scales corresponding to goal setting, intrinsic interest, performance goal orientation, goal mastery orientation, self-instruction, emotional control, and self-evaluation. In conclusion, the scales allow valid and reliable measurement of teaching self-regulatory processes.
       
  • University Dropout: Predictors and Mediators in First-Year Chilean
           University Students

    • Abstract: Resumen La integración social en los primeros años de universidad ha mostrado ser muy relevante para propiciar que los estudiantes participen de forma comprometida, obtengan buenos resultados académicos y permanezcan en sus estudios. La pandemia por COVID-19 ha impuesto barreras a la integración social de los estudiantes, cambiando las formas de la relación interpersonal. El objetivo de la presente investigación fue evaluar un modelo en que el aislamiento y el apoyo social percibidos (variables de integración social) son predictores de la intención de abandono y se encuentran mediados por el sentido de pertenencia. Se realizó un estudio con diseño transversal asociativo-predictivo, mediante la prueba de modelos de mediación, con 700 participantes de primer año de una universidad chilena. Los resultados mostraron un efecto indirecto estadísticamente significativo de las variables de integración social sobre la intención de abandono. A su vez, no se observaron efectos directos de dichas variables sobre la intención de abandono. Estos resultados permiten, primero, indicar que, durante la educación virtual de emergencia, con sus barreras para la interacción social y académica, las variables de integración logran predecir la intención de abandonar los estudios mediante su efecto sobre el sentido de pertenencia; además, orientan las preocupaciones de las instituciones de educación superior para poner atención sobre las condiciones en las que la integración social ocurre en los medios virtuales y con las restricciones de la interacción que le son propias.Abstract Social integration in university freshmen has proven to be very relevant to encourage students to participate in an engaged way, obtain good academic results and continue with their university studies. The Covid-19 Pandemic imposed barriers to the social integration of students, changing the forms of interpersonal relationships. The objective of this research was to evaluate a predictive model in which perceived isolation and social support (social integration variables) are predictors of the intention to dropout mediated by the sense of belonging. A study with an associative-predictive cross-sectional design was carried out by testing mediation models with 700 first-year participants from a Chilean university. The results showed a statistically significant indirect effect of the social integration variables on dropout intention. In turn, no direct effects of these variables on the intention to quit were observed. These results indicate that, during emergency virtual education with its barriers to social and academic interaction, the integration variables can predict the intention to drop out of school through their effect on the sense of belonging. These results encourage higher education institutions to pay attention to the conditions in which social integration occurs in virtual media and with the interaction restrictions that are inherent to it.
       
  • Evaluations issued by Members of the Psychology Profession in Costa Rica
           on their Therapeutic Skills and Techniques for Practicing Individual
           Clinical Psychotherapy by means of Information and Communication
           Technologies During the COVID-19 Pandemic.v42i01.04

    • Abstract: Resumen Durante la pandemia por COVID-19 se dio una acelerada virtualización de los procesos de atención psicológica en Costa Rica, en paralelo a la expansión en la regulación de esta modalidad por parte del Colegio de Profesionales en Psicología de Costa Rica. El presente artículo tiene el objetivo de identificar valoraciones de personas del gremio de profesionales en psicología de Costa Rica sobre sus habilidades terapéuticas y técnicas para ejercer psicoterapia clínica individual mediante las Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación (TIC) durante la Pandemia por COVID-19. Mediante la aplicación de un cuestionario autoadministrado en línea, se realizó un acercamiento al gremio, donde se consultó sobre las estrategias, herramientas y habilidades que puso en práctica para comenzar a utilizar las TIC en su ejercicio psicoterapéutico. Se obtuvieron experiencias muy importantes, aprendizajes sobre la marcha y, sobre todo, la ausencia de un consenso y claridad entre las personas profesionales en psicología sobre las buenas prácticas para el uso de esta modalidad. Como principal reflexión del proceso, se invita al gremio a ejercitar al máximo las habilidades de terapeuta, especialmente aquellas que quizá no resulten empleadas regularmente durante una consulta a distancia, como la observación y el examen clínico integral.Abstract During the COVID-19 Pandemic, the virtualization of psychological care grew rapidly in Costa Rica, parallel to the expansion of regulation for this modality in the Colegio de Profesionales en Psicología de Costa Rica. The objective of this article is to identify the appraisals of Costa Rican psychology professionals regarding their abilities to practice individual clinical psychotherapy by means of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Through the completion of a self-administered online questionnaire, professionals were consulted about the strategies, tools and skills that they put into play during the use of ICTs in their psychotherapeutic practice, narrating deeply important experiences, presenting key learnings and above all, making visible the absence of a consensus and clarity regarding the best practices for use in this modality. The main recommendation emanating from this process is to promote to the maximum continuing-education on the topic of therapist skills, especially those that may not be used regularly during a remote consultation, such as observation and comprehensive clinical examination.
       
  • Perception of Professional Officers Involved with the Childhood
           Improvement Service Regarding the Infringement of the Rights of Children
           and Adolescents in a Commune in the Central-South of Chile. A View from
           the Pandemic Context

    • Abstract: Resumen El Servicio Mejor Niñez es un organismo público que tiene como objetivo garantizar la protección de derechos de niños, niñas y adolescentes al amparo de la Ley N.º 21302. En los últimos años, se ha visto cuestionado tanto por la opinión pública como por organismos internacionales, por incumplimiento de las funciones para la cual se creó. En esta línea, el objetivo de esta investigación se centró en la percepción de los profesionales interventores sobre la vulneración de derechos sobre niños, niñas y adolescentes en la zona centro-sur de Chile. Estas personas son profesionales en Psicología y Trabajo Social que durante años han trabajado en programas de protección de vulneración de derechos, y han desempeñado un rol protector en cuanto a la protección de estos derechos. Para ello, se utilizó un método cualitativo basado en un enfoque fenomenológico, a partir de entrevistas que permitieron conocer los significados y percepciones sobre su ejercicio profesional. Los resultados destacan la visión opuesta y extrema de los profesionales sobre el proceso de intervención (satisfactoria y frustrante), así como la diversidad de modelos o enfoques utilizados en el proceso, lo que parece indicar que no existe una sistematización teórica en cuanto a la intervención que cada programa utiliza. Se estableció una reflexión importante sobre la ejecución de políticas en infancia y adolescencia que buscan promover el desarrollo integral en el marco postpandemia por COVID-19, considerando que muchas personas menores de edad se vieron nuevamente expuestas a vulneraciones de derechos durante el proceso de pandemia.Abstract The Childhood Improvement Service is a public agency whose objective is to guarantee protection of the rights of children and adolescents with respect to the enactment of Law No. 21302. This has been questioned in recent years by both public opinion and international organizations, in relation to a failure to fulfill the functions for which it was created. In this sense, the objective of this research focused on the perception of professionals involved in children's and adolescents' rights in the central-south zone of Chile. The professionals are psychologists and social workers who have worked to protect the rights circumscribing the different types of interventions and multidisciplinary approaches carried out. For this purpose, a qualitative method was used in phase with a phenomenological approach, based on interviews that allowed ascertaining the meanings and perceptions regarding their professional practice. The results highlight the opposed and extreme views of the professionals in the intervention process (satisfactory versus frustrating), as well as the diversity of models or approaches used in the process, which seems to indicate that there is no theoretical systematization regarding the intervention applied by each program. Establishing an important reflection on the implementation of policies in childhood and adolescence that seek to promote integral development in the post-Covid-19 Pandemic framework.
       
  • Validation of the glass ceiling scale in female workers during the
           pandemic

    • Abstract: Resumen En el ámbito laboral, algunas condiciones basadas en estereotipos sociales promueven la obstaculización para que una mujer trabajadora acceda a las mismas oportunidades de desarrollo profesional; por ello, el objetivo de este estudio fue crear y validar la Escala Techo de Cristal. Se realizó un estudio empírico instrumental con una muestra no probabilística de 203 mujeres mexicanas, que trabajaban durante la pandemia por COVID-19. El Análisis Factorial Exploratorio y Análisis Factorial Confirmatorio arrojaron valores de índice de ajuste aceptables (NFI = .832, TLI = .900, CFI = .918, y RMSEA = .62) y con un coeficiente de confiabilidad de α = .816. La escala quedó conformada por 15 reactivos en tres factores: Sobrecarga, Techo de Cristal y Balance Familia-Trabajo, siendo el modelo de tres factores la estructura idónea para medir el constructo. Los resultados brindan evidencia de que el instrumento cuenta con las propiedades psicométricas para ser utilizado en la población de estudio y con ello generar diagnósticos confiables que deriven en estrategias organizacionales para visibilizar y de ser posible erradicar este fenómeno.Abstract In the workplace, some conditions based on social stereotypes hinder a working woman from accessing the same professional development opportunities as a male; therefore, the purpose of this research paper was to create and validate the Glass Ceiling Scale. An instrumental empirical study was carried out with a non-probabilistic sample of 203 Mexican women who worked during the Covid-19 pandemic. The Exploratory Factor Analysis and Confirmatory Factor Analysis yielded acceptable fit index values (NFI = .832, TLI = .900, CFI = .918, and RMSEA= .62) and with a reliability coefficient of α = .816. The scale was made up of 15 items in three factors: Overload, Glass Ceiling and Family-Work Balance, with the three-factor model being the ideal structure to measure the construct. Results show evidence that the scale has the due psychometric properties for use in the study population and thereby generate reliable diagnoses that lead to organizational strategies to make visible and eradicate this phenomenon.
       
  • Role of the Family in Promoting Self-regulated Learning of Chilean
           Students During Confinement by COVID-19

    • Abstract: Resumen El confinamiento por COVID-19 ocasionó que las familias se enfrentaran al proceso del estudio en el hogar, mediante la enseñanza remota. El rol que juega la familia en el proceso de aprendizaje, sin embargo, históricamente ha depositado en la escuela la mayor responsabilidad. Este estudio analizó cómo las familias se dispusieron para fomentar el aprendizaje autorregulado en el hogar de los niños, niñas y adolescentes en tiempos de COVID-19. Se realizó un estudio descriptivo correlacional, donde participaron 65 familias de niños, niñas y adolescentes de las Regiones del Biobío y Ñuble, las cuales respondieron un cuestionario parental sobre promoción del aprendizaje autorregulado y preguntas sociodemográficas. Los hallazgos permitieron inferir que cuando las familias se sienten capaces de fomentar el estudio, se disponen a ello, emplean estrategias cognitivas, buscan ayuda cuando lo necesitan y evalúan la planificación del estudio y aprendizaje de manera media y/o alta. Este tipo de estudios aporta al vacío teórico evidenciado en la literatura acerca del rol educativo de la familia durante la pandemia; asimismo, contribuye a reflexionar sobre las estrategias que emplean las familias para colaborar con el aprendizaje de sus niñas, niños y adolescentes.Abstract The COVID-19 confinement caused families to face the study process at home through emergency remote teaching. The role of the family in the learning process is well known; however, historically, the greatest responsibility has been placed on the school. This study analyzed how families arranged themselves to foster self-regulated learning at home for children and adolescents in times of COVID-19. It was a descriptive correlational study, with the participation of 65 families of children and adolescents from the Biobío and Ñuble Regions, who answered a parental questionnaire on the promotion of self-regulated learning and sociodemographic questions. The findings allow inferring that when families feel capable of promoting study, they are willing to do it, use cognitive strategies, seek help when needed and that most of them evaluate their study and learning planning in a medium and/or high way. Significant differences were also found by gender, with men establishing more cognitive strategies and asking for more help than women when performing academic activities with their children and adolescents. This type of study contributes to the theoretical void evidenced in the literature on the educational role of the family during the pandemic and contributes to reflect on the strategies used by families to collaborate with the study of their children and adolescents.
       
  • Parental Interventions for Linguistic-communicative Development in
           Preschoolers with Neurodevelopmental Disorders: A Systematic Review

    • Abstract: Resumen En el actual escenario sociosanitario enfrentado a raíz de la pandemia por SARS-CoV-2, múltiples actividades se han visto mermadas, e incluso, suspendidas por los largos periodos de aislamiento social y las medidas de cuidado para evitar contagios. En este sentido, muchas personas han dejado de recibir con la misma regularidad, o bajo las mismas circunstancias, sus tratamientos, incluyendo a niños con Trastornos del Neurodesarrollo (TND). Es así como surgen las intervenciones Parentales. Estas son programas donde los padres o cuidadores primarios son entrenados para llevar a cabo acciones terapéuticas con el niño y cuyo objetivo puede estar orientado a promover múltiples habilidades. El objetivo de la presente revisión sistemática fue determinar el efecto de estas intervenciones para promover el lenguaje y la comunicación en niños con diagnóstico de TND de entre 2 y 5 años. Se realizó una búsqueda sistemática en las bases de datos ERIC, MEDLINE y PubMed, considerando publicaciones de entre enero del 2010 y marzo de 2022. De las 9885 referencias iniciales, y posterior a las etapas de tamizaje y elegibilidad, 5 fuentes primarias cumplieron con los criterios de selección. Los resultados indican que las intervenciones parentales para habilidades de comunicación serían efectivas e incluso se mantendrían los efectos en medidas de seguimiento. En cuanto a las habilidades de lenguaje, los resultados a través de los estudios son contradictorios. Por otra parte, ninguno de los estudios reporta efectos adversos para los niños. En cuanto a efectos beneficios o adversos para padres o cuidadores primarios, ninguno de los estudios incluidos reporta medidas asociadas.Abstract In the current socio-sanitary scenario that we are facing as a result of the SARS-CoV-2 Pandemic, there have been many activities that have been reduced and even suspended due to long periods of social isolation and care measures to avoid contagion. In this sense, many people have stopped receiving their treatments with the same regularity or under the same circumstances, including children with Neurodevelopmental Disorders. This is how parental interventions correspond to programs where parents or primary caregivers are trained to carry out therapeutic actions with the child and whose objective may be aimed at promoting multiple skills. The objective of this systematic review was to determine the effect of these interventions to promote language and communication in children diagnosed with Neurodevelopmental Disorders between 2 and 5 years of age. A systematic search was carried out in the ERIC, MEDLINE and PubMed databases including publications between January 2010 and March 2022. Of the 9885 initial references, and after the screening and eligibility stages, 5 primary sources met the selection criteria. The results indicate that parental interventions for communication skills would be effective, and the effects would even be maintained in follow-up measures. Regarding language skills, the results across studies are contradictory. On the other hand, none of the studies reported adverse effects for children. Regarding beneficial or adverse effects for parents or primary caregivers, none of the included studies reported associated measures.
       
  • Sistema familiar y participación social en mujeres campesinas adultas de
           las comunas de Mulchén y Parral, posterior a la pandemia

    • Abstract: Resumen La presente investigación, sobre el sistema familiar y participación social en mujeres campesinas adultas, tuvo por objetivo describir la participación social en el marco sistémico familiar de mujeres adultas en contexto rural. El estudio empleó metodología cualitativa, con un enfoque fenomenológico, considerando un muestreo no probabilístico de tipo intencionado a partir de cinco entrevistas semiestructuradas a mujeres adultas campesinas de las comunas de Mulchén y Parral. El análisis de datos se desarrolló con base en un análisis de contenido que refleja las dimensiones de la experiencia y observación de campo como las características del contexto más importantes. Los resultados obtenidos se visualizan a través de las categorías de sistema familiar, actividad de mujeres campesinas y participación social, elementos que dan cuenta de vínculo e intereses en común, como también roles culturales y funciones establecidas y no establecidas.Abstract This study on family systems and social participation in rural adult women had the objective of describing social participation in the family systemic framework of adult women in a rural context. The study used a qualitative methodology, based on a phenomenological approach, considering a non-probabilistic, purposive sampling from 5 semi-structured interviews with rural adult women from the communes of Mulchén and Parral. The data analysis was carried out based on a content analysis that reflects the dimensions of the experience and field observation as the most important characteristics of the context. The results obtained are visualized through the categories of family system, rural women's activity and social participation, elements that account for common ties and interests, as well as cultural roles and established and non-established functions.
