Abstract: Gaspare Palmieri, Cristian Grassilli In this article we will describe the possible use of the songs in different psychiatric settings and in training in cognitive psychotherapy, experiences gained within the Psicantria project. Clinical examples of the use of songs in mindful listening groups will be presented, in which the songs become facilitators for sharing inner experiences, also thanks to the use of a listening schedule. We will talk about the songwriting technique of parodies and the group composition of original songs, with particular reference to the area of eating disorders. Finally, we will reflect on the possible use of the same techniques in the context of training in cognitive psychotherapy. PubDate: Wed, 15 Mar 2022 8:00:00 GMT

Abstract: Augusto Romano The author focuses his attention on three main topics: 1. Relationship between music and transcendence. The thesis supported here is that musical language, as an asemantic language, is more suitable than any other medium expressive to be an intermediary between the "diurnal" world, inspired by the values of conscience, and the imaginal world, in which unconscious contents are reflected. 2. The concept of Harmonice Mundi. The author exposes the ancient notion of Harmonice Mundi, which postulates the existence of an ordering principle that presides over the entire structure of the universe and manifests itself in the correspondence between phenomena belonging to different orders. He shows that this concept is essentially musical, as also apparent from Kepler’s arguments in favor of the so-called "Music of the spheres". 3. Music and analytic practice. A reflection on the history of psychoanalysis allows the Author to propose an isomorphism between the performative function of music and the practice of analytic therapy. Abstract: Giuseppe Ruggiero, Maura Ruggiero In this paper, the authors offer some reflections on the musical nature of psychotherapy, in accordance with an aesthetic model of relational clinical practice, as applied to individuals, couples, and families. This model underlines the qualities of the rhythmic and musical aspects of intersubjective relationships, comparing the development of the clinical process to the characteristics of jazz music and to the relationship between musical execution and improvisation. A series of dialogues between "a father and a daughter" - inspired by the famous Bateson’s "metalogues" - enrich the content of the text. PubDate: Wed, 15 Mar 2022 8:00:00 GMT

Abstract: Anna Maria Sassone The author turns her clinical attention to listening in the analysis room and to the different ways of transmitting the not yet thought. From gestures to sounds. Within this pathway - which also includes transmission at a distance, from rêverie to bodily countertransference, to telepathic phenomena - the myth of Orpheus, Pan’s flute, Mozart’s Magic Flute and Hamlin’s Pied Piper by the Grimm brothers unfold. Through the clinical account it becomes possible to witness the moment when the sounds coming from the underworld enchant the analyst to lead her to the place where the syn-tony with the patient becomes syn-phony. The unconscious from an object of investigation thus becomes an instrument of analysis. PubDate: Wed, 15 Mar 2022 8:00:00 GMT

Abstract: Giordana Ercolani The proposed clinical case is based upon the history of G., whose suffering suggests a cognitive-behavioural intervention. The decision to involve parents in the clinical intervention, meanwhile respecting the patient’s need for privacy, is based upon the evidence that multiple-setting treatment produces a better outcome. Furthermore, we explain the rationale of the intervention by showing the application of different techniques fully described and scientifically validated; all techniques are merged together into a unique therapeutic strategy, which is built upon a case conceptualization tailored to the patient. Abstract: Giuseppe Ruggiero Inspired by the scenes of a recent documentary, recently broadcast on "Rai" channel, in memory of Franco Battiato, the Author offers his interpretation of some of the most famous musical pieces of the Sicilian songwriter, representing a sort of symbolic itinerary, full of hints for the training and the personal growth of psychotherapists. More specifically, he examines some of the key themes in Battiato’s poetics: self-awareness - which goes beyond automatic behavior -, man’s relationship with spirituality, and the relevance of the central notions of eastern philosophies, such as the concept of death and rebirth.
