  • Psychoanalysis and war: On witnessing Ukrainian psychoanalysts.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: This contribution serves as an introduction to the special section that features writings by Ukrainian psychoanalysts who have been impacted in their work and their lives by the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine. Large-scale wars have been significant to the development and changes in psychoanalytic theory and practice since its inception. These articles highlight horrendous challenges and adaptations in psychoanalytic work as well as in the lives of psychoanalysts as human beings amidst the violence of war. Issues such as therapeutic frame, survival, relational dynamics, disclosure, refugee and crisis work, peer supervision, and professional commitments are discussed via both theoretical exploration and case illustration. • Traveling through the worlds: New challenges in therapy with children,
adolescents, and their families during the war.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: When Russia’s 8-year war against Ukraine escalated into large-scale aggression across the country, the lives of all Ukrainians were thrown into chaos. Preserving the psychotherapeutic space, which was especially important for our child and adolescent patients, proved to be a great challenge for psychoanalytic psychotherapists. This contribution describes these challenges and adaptations made by Ukrainian child analysts in order to maintain a space of safety and trust. This article discusses efforts to remain reliable objects of attachment for child patients under conditions of numerous relational losses. Child psychotherapy under conditions of full-scale war is illustrated. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Therapeutic relationships in wartime Ukraine.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: The war created a special background for psychoanalytic therapy, the interdiscourse which fills the analytic sessions. This interdiscourse relates to the therapeutic encounter in a variety of ways sides, resulting in a number of distinct therapeutic phenomena and features of the therapeutic relationship. This contribution highlights several of these phenomena, including (a) the inversion of relations, establishing a new system of power dynamics and positions of self-disclosure, (b) overloading of sessions with feelings of guilt, (c) new dimensions of mental regression, and (d) the exhaustion of the analysand’s ego. This article describes and illustrates these phenomena. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Psychoanalytic work with losses during the war: The Ukrainian experience.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: This contribution discusses developments and changes in psychoanalytic practice under conditions of war in Ukraine. Clinical observations in Ukraine show that psychoanalytic work carried out under conditions of military violence may not be contained within the framework of predetermined symbolic constructions. Specifically, such psychoanalytic work appears to become less focused on mentalizing and imagining psychic elements, including thoughts, feelings, wishes, and memories, as is typical in nonwar psychoanalytic situations. In contrast, the experience of war is concerned with psychic states, which may have never been articulated. In this article, I identify them as unimagined or poorly imagined psychic phenomena. These intrasubjective developments are related to living with enormous losses during wartime, as well as facing an unknown future. Utilizing the works of Bion, Bollas, Green, and Lacan, I define the sense of the future, located within the psyche, as a capacity for futuristic thinking or for hope. This psychic hope contains wishes that seek realization as the representations of an Eros function. Maternal and paternal functions in the psyche are also seen as related to the capacity to imagine the future. These theoretical ideas are noted within the context of the profound challenges of working as a psychoanalyst under conditions of war. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Borders and psychoanalysis in a time of war.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: The full-scale military invasion launched by Russia against Ukraine on February 24, 2022 was tremendously influential on psychoanalytical practice, including the ways in which it necessitated our crossing the borders of the psychoanalytic frame. Like Ukraine in general, therapeutic settings and frames that had been established before the large-scale invasion were attacked and changed. This contribution describes how Ukrainian psychoanalysts, who share the traumatic realities of war with their analysands, have had to navigate the erasure of analytic borders and negations of therapeutic boundaries. This article utilizes reflections and case materials from a Ukrainian psychoanalyst who experienced this impact firsthand. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Professional supervision as therapists’ self-care during wartime.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Supervision has been an obligatory part of psychoanalytic training since the establishment of formal institutes in the 1930s. As is common worldwide, typical supervision groups in Ukraine were established according to the affiliation of specialists related to particular theoretical orientations in psychoanalysis (e.g., Freud, Lacan, Klein) or related to the category of patients served (e.g., children, adolescents, adults, couples, groups). Such Ukrainian supervisory groups have included interactions between professionals of approximately the same level of experience with an average frequency of weekly or biweekly meetings. This contribution describes a radical shift in the format, process, and content of psychoanalytic supervision groups in Ukraine following the Russian invasion. Specifically, this article describes the “Wartime Research” project, which was established by Ukrainian psychoanalytic supervisors in March 2022. In addition to describing the project, this article focuses on the individual experience of a Ukrainian psychoanalyst as a supervisor and clinician during the war. Specifically, the phenomenological experience of psychoanalytic supervision as a form of professional and personal self-care is described. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Translating psychoanalytic texts into Ukrainian: Discoveries and further
           steps.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: This article explores the significance of translating classical and contemporary psychoanalytic texts into Ukrainian. It substantiates the existing distinction between natural sciences and humanities by considering their respective use of language as a means of describing the world. By applying the phenomenological conception of language as an existential fact, essential to the constitution of a world conducive to self-understanding for individuals and communities, the article demonstrates the importance of language in creating a shared intersubjective world. This world emerges through communication between diverse cultures, with translation playing a crucial role. The article also highlights the historical isolation of Ukrainian culture from direct interaction with other cultures, with Russian culture serving as a mediating influence that hindered the authentic assimilation of global traditions. Restoring direct engagement with global cultures has become a significant challenge for Ukrainian intellectuals, aiming to disentangle the Ukrainian nation from Russian influence and shape its unique self-understanding and relations with the world. Translation serves as a pivotal tool in this restoration process. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Review of Working with parents in therapy: A mentalization-based
           approach
    .

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Reviews the book, Working with Parents in Therapy: A Mentalization-Based Approach by Norka Malberg, Elliot Jurist, Jordan Bate, and Mark Dangerfield (see record 2023-37128-000). According to the reviewer, the reviewed book is the definitive text on applying mentalization-based treatment's (MBT) principles to clinical work with parents. The book is clear, comprehensive, and pragmatic, informed by a thoughtful integration of MBT and psychoanalytic principles. Distinctive features of the book include a focus on parenting as a developmental process, as well as an attentiveness to the diverse shapes that parenting can take in a contemporary and multicultural landscape. This book will be of interest to clinician-readers who work directly with children and families, but it will also be useful to generalist practitioners who want to learn more about the therapeutic principles of MBT. The strategies here can be easily folded into existing treatments, especially to inform our clinical interventions with adult patients who happen to be parents. • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Reviews the book, When Suicide Beckons: A Psychoanalyst's Memoir by Bhaskar Sripada (2022). According to the reviewer, the book has multiple possible uses. Anyone thinking of going into analysis and imagining analysis as an intimidating, alien enterprise could read this book and learn what it is really like. The book is a portal into the secret world that is shared by analysts and patients. A college course providing an introduction to psychoanalysis could rely on this book. The book would also be invaluable for students training to become psychoanalytic psychotherapists or psychoanalysts. The material Sripada provides is ideal for exploring basic questions such as How does psychoanalysis work' and what is the therapeutic factor in psychoanalysis' Sripada gives us his own answers to such questions. But, looking at the sessions depicted in this volume, students would be free to challenge and debate Sripada and each other and to come to their own conclusions. • A Jungian approach to psychological intervention: Using the cultural
archetype of the “gourd” image to support Chinese frontline medical
           staff during COVID-19.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: After the sudden outbreak of COVID-19, frontline medical staff stepped forward to protect people from the virus. Medical staff have experienced many psychological problems during the pandemic, such as anxiety and depression, as well as adverse somatic reactions, such as sleep disorders and physical pain. Based on the theory and clinical practice of analytical psychology, this article proposes the image of the gourd (“hulu”), an archetype with rich cultural connotations, as a novel tool for psychological intervention. The image of the gourd has its origins in Chinese culture and is one of the most important symbols in Chinese tradition, ubiquitous in architecture (such as that of the Forbidden City), national costumes, poetry, calligraphy, and painting. Linked with the archetype of the “Great Mother,” the gourd signifies the birth and origin of life and evokes the functions of reproduction, nurturing, and protection. At the same time, the gourd is the archetype of the physician (healer) in Chinese culture, standing for physical and mental healing and the essence of health and longevity. In addition, the gourd is linked with the archetype of “temenos.” (The “temenos” is one of the important ways in which the therapeutic containment is conceptualized in analytical psychology. Jung drew the analogy between the consulting room and the temenos, the “holy of holies” at the center of the Greek Temple as a sacred and inviolate place; Abramovitch, 2002.) As an important sacred (sacrificial) vessel, the gourd is a symbolic agent of communication between heaven and earth and human beings and immortals, and it is responsible for expelling evil spirits and warding off disasters. This article proposes the image of the gourd as a novel tool for providing psychological support for frontline medical staff during the COVID-19. The trauma of frontline staff can be subsumed within the image of the gourd, which evokes functions such as sealing, housing, protection, healing, and transformation, to restore their internal psychological resources and spiritual strength. • Mentalized affectivity as a mediator between two forms of narcissism and
           self-compassion.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Mentalization, or the process used to make sense of both other people and us, implicitly and explicitly, through the context of subjective states and mental processes (Bateman & Fonagy, 2010) is not being used more often in therapeutic settings and research. One specific type of mentalization that considers the regulatory processes of emotions is mentalized affectivity (MA). MA examines the identifying, processing, and expressing aspects of emotion. In prior research, the relationship between MA and narcissism has been examined using mentalization-based treatment techniques to increase attachment relationships (Drozek & Unruh, 2020), and there is no extensive research on the relationship between MA and vulnerable and grandiose narcissism. Furthermore, the relationship between MA and self-compassion, something that people with narcissism struggle with, has not been extensively examined. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between narcissism (grandiose and vulnerable) and self-compassion and if MA acts as a pathway to becoming a more self-compassionate individual. A total of 161 participants completed questionnaires measuring components of both forms of narcissism, self-compassion, and MA. The parallel and simple mediation analyses found that the processing component of MA significantly influenced the relationship between both forms of narcissism and self-compassion. Future research should examine the use of mentalization in clinical populations who have been diagnosed with grandiose or vulnerable narcissism, placing an emphasis on the processing component of the model. • Object representation and containment: An empirical investigation.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: The study explored the relationship between internal representations of object relations and Bion’s notion of containment in a sample of 33 adolescents and their mothers. Using performance-based measures, the study examined the association between levels of object representations as rated by the Differentiation-Relatedness (D-R) and Conceptual Level (CL) Object Relations Inventory (ORI) scales, and Rorschach measures of the capacity to contain and process emotional experiences. In addition, the study explored the intergenerational transmission of these constructs by examining the relational matrices between mothers and their adolescent children. The results indicated a positive correlation between the two ORI scales and between the D-R and Rorschach measure of imagination, empathy, and reflection, which was also negatively related to a measure of emotional dysregulation. No significant relationship was found between the adolescents and their mothers. These findings highlight the association between levels of internal representations and the capacity for containment and emotional processing. • Review of the Trauma of racism: Lessons from the therapeutic encounter.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Reviews the book, The Trauma of Racism: Lessons from the Therapeutic Encounter by Beverly J. Stoute and Michael Slevin (see record 2023-29437-000). The 22 essays gathered in the edited book by Beverly Stoute and Michael Slevin feature mostly Black and White authors who share lessons drawn from their clinical, theoretical, and personal experiences with anti-Black racism and racial trauma, in personal life, consulting room, community, and from film. These essays stand out, among a plethora of contemporary works that address racism and racial traumas, for two merits: First, many of the chapters are written from a first-person perspective, with a number of contributors reflecting on their personal experiences of marginalization, trauma, or privilege—racial or otherwise. The personal and vulnerable nature of their writings, refreshingly free (mostly) of jargon, lends the book a feel of intimacy and relatability. Collectively, their shared experiences offer a vision of a racial comportment centered on empathic recognition of humanity and dignity in all of us, both White and Black. Second, the book offers implicit and explicit consideration, weaved throughout but especially powerfully presented by Beverly Stoute, of psychic resilience of the oppressed people. Psychoanalytic consideration of psychic resilience of racially oppressed people is a topic previously neglected in the literature; yet it is a very important topic, as it offers insights into the psychic, intergenerational, and intersubjective factors that help oppressed people survive and thrive. Abstract: Reviews the books, The Analyst's Reveries: Explorations in Bion's Enigmatic Concept by Busch Fred (see record 2019-13679-000); Dear Candidate: Analysts from Around the World Offer Personal Reflections on Psychoanalytic Training, Education, and the Profession by Busch Fred (see record 2020-95859-000); and A Fresh Look at Psychoanalytic Technique: Selected Papers on Psychoanalysis by Fred Busch (see record 2021-80653-000). In three recent books, the American psychoanalyst Fred Busch puts forth a clear, rigorous, open-minded vision of contemporary psychoanalysis and makes a powerful case for its enduring relevance in 21st century life. Firmly grounded in the American Freudian tradition, Busch’s work emphasizes the gradual working through of unconscious conflict and the bolstering of the mind’s self-reflective capacities. Busch is unwavering in certain core principles, such as the importance of symbolic thinking, the mutative role of interpretation, and the need to stay “in the neighborhood” of what a patient is willing and able to hear at any given moment. Yet, he understands on a very basic level that no theoretical orientation or technical apparatus is ever complete and that the stunning mystery of the human mind is inexhaustible. His writing offers the reader a compelling image of an exceptionally skilled, emotionally attuned, intellectually rigorous clinician hard at work, one who remains humble and open in relation to the unknown and deeply committed in his search for psychic truth. With regard to the meaning of contemporary psychoanalytic practice, what he gives us is as much an ethos as a set of powerful and useable ideas.            analysand’s journey

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Reviews the book, Growing through the Erotic Transference: An Analysand's Journey by Frances H. Moore (see record 2023-34530-000). This book has two parts totaling an economical 80 pages, “Part One: The Story” and “Part Two: Reflections.” The first is based on notes kept by Moore throughout the course of the treatment so that the narrative voice and critical perspective evolve with the progression of the analysis. Part Two provides a retroactive assessment of the treatment’s highlighted leitmotifs, as well as prescriptive elements mainly directed at male analysts caught up in erotic countertransference. The reviewer's questions for Moore center on the idealization of her analyst and the consequent splits that emerge in the text; splits that are sympathy-evoking but which nonetheless produce a somewhat paranoid reading of the psychoanalytic profession. • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: The literature published in selected psychoanalytic journals from 2001 to 2020 was obtained from the Web of Science Core Collection and analyzed using the CiteSpace visualization tool. The results showed that the number of articles published annually by psychoanalytic journals tended to be stable over the past 20 years; North America was the largest center of work in psychoanalysis, with Europe ranked second; many psychoanalytic authors worked in settings outside universities; the most active authors in this 20-year period were Fonagy, Kernberg, and Ogden; the influence of Freud, Winnicott, and Bion continues to this day; the themes of transference, countertransference, therapeutic action, and development were the hotspots for the past 20 years; to some extent, the highly cited literature reflected the intersubjective turn in psychoanalysis and the increase of exchange with empirical research; and psychoanalysis had a certain influence on medicine, psychology, and other fields, but this was less than in the first half of the 20th century. In the future, psychoanalysis needs to continue to strengthen its dialog with other disciplines. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Psychoanalysts’ work throughout the COVID-19 pandemic: An empirical
study on teleanalysis during the Italian lockdown.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has brought several limitations in everyday life, which have, in turn, influenced psychoanalysts’ work with their patients. In Italy, in March 2020, a national lockdown was applied to the population, and this has led many psychoanalysts to work remotely with their patients. The aims of this study were to analyze psychoanalysts’ (N = 100) interventions’ style before and during the COVID-19 lockdown and to evaluate the impact of analysts’ feelings on their interventions style. Measures included the Comparative Psychotherapy Process scale, the Psychoanalytic Periodical Rating Scale, and the Feeling Word Checklist-24. Analysts rated an adult patient with no psychotic disorder whom they saw before (in-person) and during (remotely) the lockdown. Mixed robust analysis of variance showed that there were statistically significant differences in psychoanalysts’ interventions before and during the lockdown. These differences were also related to patients’ level of functioning, with an increase in cognitive behavioral (CB) interventions with neurotic patients during the lockdown and a decrease in interventions (both CB or psychodynamic) with borderline patients during the lockdown. Moreover, psychoanalysts tended to focus more on affects and less on unconscious experiences during the lockdown, compared to before. Results showed the presence of significantly higher levels of negative-anxious feelings during the lockdown. CB interventions were significantly predicted by positive feelings and by negative-anxious feelings. These results seem to point toward some peculiarities related to the remote work with the patients during the lockdown, which should be addressed in everyday clinical practice. • Computerized linguistic analysis of counselors’ clinical notes in a
university counseling center: Which associations correspond with
students’ symptom reduction in a brief psychodynamic intervention'

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: University counseling represents an effective tool for promoting students’ mental health, for reducing a variety of psychological disorders, and to offer developmental support and guidance in the resolution of educational and academic challenges. Despite this, there is still a paucity of literature on which variables are involved in explaining the effectiveness of university counseling. For this reason, we applied the multiple code theory to the clinical process by analyzing therapists’ clinical notes. Aims of the study are to investigate the usefulness of a university counseling intervention by evaluating changes in the psychological symptomatology between pre- and postintervention and in the linguistic measures applied to clinical reports of the first and last sessions. The sample consisted of 88 university students (mean age = 23.30, 73.9% identified as female) and 15 psychologists (mean age = 33.93). Measures used are Italian Discourse Attributes Analysis Program and Linguistic Measures of the Referential Process, Outcome Questionnaire–45, Beck Anxiety Inventory, Beck Depression Inventory–II, Personality Inventory for Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders–5 Brief Form. Results showed a significant reduction in patients’ symptomatology in all the dimensions investigated. Moreover, some significant changes in linguistic measures applied to clinical reports emerged such as an increase in reflection/reorganization process. Finally, these findings are also confirmed by significant correlations between students’ personality traits and linguistic measures of clinical reports, between pre/postintervention tests scores, and linguistic characteristics of first/last clinical reports that respectively emerged. In conclusion, our study shows that brief counseling intervention shows improvement in students’ symptoms by both investigating the instruments and analyzing the writing style of counselors who performed the brief treatments. • Knowing me, knowing you: A systematic review of object relations
           assessment.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Tools for assessing object relations (ORs) are fundamental for psychodynamic theory, research, and practice. ORs play an important role in diagnostic and therapeutic processes, helping therapists to better understand and manage complex relational functioning in their patients. The clinical relevance of OR is also recognized by the first criterion of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, fifth edition Alternative Model for Personality Disorders. Our goal is to provide clinicians and researchers with an updated review of the available empirical tools to assess OR. We conducted a systematic search on APA PsycInfo and Pubmed and retrieved 42 instruments from the existing literature. Some of these assessment tools are well established in the scientific community. Among the less popular ones, we identified some instruments that show good potential and may be granted a further round of validation. We encourage the development of existing and new instruments within the framework of Kernberg’s theory of personality organization, and a further inquiry into qualitative aspects of ORs dyads, which may help therapists obtain more sophisticated information on their patients’ relational functioning. • Assessing defense mechanisms in binge-eating disorder: Preliminary
validity and reliability of the Defense Mechanism Rating Scale (DMRS)
           coded from Adult Attachment Interviews.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: We assessed the reliability and validity of the Defense Mechanism Rating Scale (DMRS) when used with the Adult Attachment Interview (AAI) and compared defensive functioning among women with and without binge-eating disorder (BED). Participants were women with BED (n = 101), overweight/obese women without BED (n = 47), and normal weight women without BED (n = 49). Participants completed the AAI, and self-report measures of interpersonal distress, reflective functioning, and attachment insecurity. Coders rated the DMRS and reflective functioning from AAI transcripts. We found acceptable interrater reliability on the DMRS; significant correlations between the DMRS and interpersonal distress, reflective functioning, and attachment insecurity; and significantly lower defensive functioning among women with BED compared to normal weight women without BED. The DMRS is reliable and valid when rated from AAI transcripts. BED is associated with lower defensive functioning. Further research on defensive functioning in BED may lead to better treatment outcomes. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Rorschach assessment of ego involvement in affect regulation: Interrater
reliability of form dominance in shading and achromatic color responses.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Although emphasis on psychodynamic thinking has waned in assessment training, the ascendant Rorschach Performance Assessment System (R-PAS; Meyer et al., 2011) has reintegrated psychoanalytic concepts into empirical Rorschach assessment: R-PAS adds scores involving object relations, implicit dependency, aggressive ideation, and ego impairment. R-PAS has, however, excluded the psychodynamic framework for assessing ego involvement in the regulation of anxiety/dysphoria by eliminating the coding of Form Dominance in Shading and Achromatic Color (FDSHAC) that has been part of the Comprehensive System (Exner, 2003). This decision was based in part on concerns about efficiently and reliably coding distinctions among Form Dominant, Form Secondary, and Formless levels of FDSHAC. To establish that such distinctions can be coded reliably, we applied supplemental guidelines (Viglione, 2010) to evaluate reliability among four experienced assessors who coded determinants for 155 Rorschach responses, 115 of which required FDSHAC determination. Applying Gwet’s AC2′s to ordinal scales, interrater reliabilities were good to excellent. Reliabilities were strongest for Form Dominance in Texture and Achromatic Color, modestly so for Form Dominance in Diffuse Shading, and problematic for Form Dominance of Vista. Among levels of Form involvement across FDSHAC variables, raters had the most difficulty distinguishing Form Secondary. We discuss considerations for clinical coding, psychodynamic configurational analyses for interpretation, and construct validation research. • Defense mechanisms as predictors of anxiety and self-esteem—A
           multiple regression analysis.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Defense mechanisms are supposed to help us deal with stress by decreasing anxiety and preserving our self-esteem. The aim of the present study was to determine which defense styles and specific defense mechanisms have the strongest association with anxiety and self-esteem. Defense Style Questionnaire–40 (DSQ-40), Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Spielberger State–Trait Anxiety Inventory were administered in nonclinical young adults (N = 341). The structure coefficients and Johnson’s relative weights were calculated. Mature, neurotic, and immature factors of DSQ-40 explained a sizeable amount of variance in trait and state anxiety and self-esteem (36%, 19%, 21%, and 23%, respectively). Immature factor, projection, and autistic fantasy subscales were found to be particularly strong negative predictors. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)

  • Preliminary findings on the associations between defense mechanisms and
           implicit versus explicit negative affect.

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Abstract: Since the initial conceptualization of defense mechanisms by Freud (1923), it is assumed that defense mechanisms are mental operations that serve to keep unpleasant affects out of awareness. Empirical evidence on how defense mechanisms varying in terms of their adaptiveness relate to implicit versus explicit negative affect, however, is missing. In the present study, we aimed to fill this gap and investigated how participants’ habitual use of defense mechanisms was related to both explicit and implicit negative affect. We analyzed data from a cross-sectional study with N = 254 participants, using bifactor structural equation modeling. Distinct associations between defense mechanisms and the latent residual of implicit negative affect were explored. Results revealed that higher usage of defense mechanisms—independent of their adaptivity—was significantly related to higher levels of implicit negative affect. More reported usage of intermediate and maladaptive defense mechanisms was associated with more explicitly reported negative affect. Limitations, theoretical and practical implications of the findings, and future directions are discussed. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved)
