  • Molecular Detection of Virulence Factors and Antibiotic Resistance among
           Enterococcus Species Isolates from Kurdistan Region of Iraq

    • Abstract: Enterococcus spp., a part of the human normal flora, can acquire resistance to many antimicrobials. The existence of virulence determinants among the clinical isolates has led to the emergence of enterococci as potential pathogens in hospital settings. The study was performed to determine Enterococcus spp., the antibiogram, identify several virulence factors encoding genes, find the most prevalent genes from different sources, and determine the relationship of virulence factors with vancomycin resistance in both E. faecalis and E. faecium isolated from different clinical samples. Clinical isolates of enterococci were identified at the species level and then subjected to antibiotic susceptibility testing. The presence of seven virulence factors was investigated using the PCR technique. Various Enterococcal spp. have been identified among 116 clinical isolates; the two major species were E. faecalis (66.4%) and E. faecium (22.4%), and to a lesser extent, other Enterococcal spp. (11.2%). All the isolates were 100% resistant to tetracycline, and E. faecium isolates were significantly (P = 0.05) more resistant to ampicillin, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, ciprofloxacin, penicillin, meropenem, nitrofurantoin, and fosfomycin. All the virulence factor genes (gelE. asa1, hyl, esp, cylA, ace, and efaA) were detected in E. faecalis and E. faecium isolates. Hyl and cylA rates were significantly higher among E. faecium isolates, while ace gene was significantly higher among E. faecalis isolates. All E. faecalis isolates possess one or more VFs, while one E. faecium isolate is free of VFs. Only two E. faecium isolates possessed all the VFs. There wasn't an evident link between the VFs and clinical samples. In conclusion, Enterococcus spp. has an elevated frequency and heterogeneity of virulence genes. The high resistance rate and virulence factor results emphasize the importance of E. faecalis and E. faecium isolates in causing infections in Kurdistan region. Larger-scale species identification and genotypic studies are needed in the region.
       
  • High-Order Solution of Reaction-Diffusion Systems Applying Compact Finite
           Difference and Explicit Runge-Kutta Methods

    • Abstract: This study aims to develop a highly precise method for handling reaction-diffusion systems with Numman boundary conditions. Our approach combines an explicit Runge-Kutta method for the temporal aspect with a 4th order compact finite difference (CFD) technique for spatial dimension. Moreover, we employ a 4th order precise CFD technique to discretize the boundary points. At the core of our methodology lies the utilization of the method of lines (MOL). This approach strategically enables us to effectively incorporate explicit Runge-Kutta methods, known for their fifth-order precision in the temporal domain. Consequently, our approach achieves high-order precision in the temporal and spatial domains, this leads to a noteworthy reduction in the computational costs associated with the scheme. The combination of explicit Runge-Kutta methods and compact finite difference approaches yields a dependable and accurate solution to solve the reaction-diffusion system, according to numerical experiments.
       
  • Influence of micro-environment on the growth characteristics of cotton
           (Gossypium hirsutum L.) with reference to row positions

    • Abstract: This experiment was conducted at Grdarasha Experimental Field, University of Salaheddin, Erbil, to study the growth performance of cotton cultivar Coker 310 under four micro environmental conditions. The four levels were as main plot (E1-E4) in split plot a Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD). 13 row positions (RP1-RP13) of different central and outer positions were included in sub plots, those rows had dual roles, as a principle constitute of the sub-plot and as a bilateral use to check the reality of the sampling statistic concept that suggests not to depend on the samples from terminal parts. with three replicates, during 2021 and2022. Results showed that the highest value of plant height was recorded from (E1and E2) for both seasons. The highest values were recorded of weight dry matter from (E3 and E4), leaf area from (E3), leaf area index from (E3 and E4), crop growth rate and relative growth rate from (E4 and E1) at 60 DAS for both seasons. at 90 DAS the highest values of DM, LA, CGR form (E4) and LAI from (E3) in the first season, while in the second season at 90DAS the highest values of DM, LA, LAI, CGR from (E3) and RGR from (E4). The row positions RP8 and RP5 superiority in plant heighT for both yeas. (RP1 and RP9) recorded superiority in DM, (RP1 and RP8) recorded superiority in LA, (RP2 and RP8) recorded superiority in LAI and (RP10 and RP3) in RGR at 60DAS for both years. The highest values at 90DAS of DM, LA and LAI were recorded from (RP9 and RP10) for both years. The highest values of CGR were recorded from (RP9 and RP11) at 60 and 90 DAS for both years. The highest value of RGR at 90DAS was recorded from RP12 in the first year.
       
  • Enhancing Low-Resource Sentiment Analysis: A Transfer Learning Approach

    • Abstract: The identification and extraction of subjective information from text, known as sentiment analysis, has seen advancements in employing cross-lingual approaches. However, the effective implementation and evaluation of sentiment analysis systems necessitate language-specific data to account for diverse sociocultural and linguistic variations. This paper outlines the process of collecting and annotating a dataset for sentiment analysis in Central Kurdish. We investigate classical machine learning and neural network-based techniques for this purpose. Furthermore, we adopt a transfer learning approach to enhance the performance by leveraging pretrained models for data augmentation. Our results demonstrate that despite the challenging nature of the task, data augmentation contributes to achieving high F1 scores and accuracy.
       
  • A Comprehensive Review of Recent Experimental and Numerical Investigations
           on the Impact of Openings in Steel Plate Shear Walls (SPSWs)

    • Abstract: Structural buildings such as steel and reinforced concrete frames usually include doors and windows on the front or back facades, interior to the open areas. This; should be arranged to have an excellent correspondence for the location of shear walls, which are counted as essential elements for lateral stability. As a result, these architectural elements across the building assist in creating areas that are relatively less resistant to lateral loads. This review investigates the behavior of steel plate-framed shear walls with openings when subjected to lateral force exposure by thoroughly evaluating the composition of previous studies. To assess the impact of opening size, type, and layout on the overall performance of the lateral force-resisting system. There are studies explore on Steel Plate Shear Walls (SPSWs), both with and without openings. This study emphasizes the effect of openings on shear capacity. It investigates the effect of adding openings to steel plate shear walls on stiffness, ductility, damping ratio, and strength of the system. Key findings from the studies show that openings in SPSWs invariably reduce their lateral stiffness and strength. The amount of deduction in the strength of a structure depends on various factors such as the size, shape, and location of the opening. Additionally, the corners of the opening may experience stress concentrations which can cause tearing and reduced ductility. As a result, it disrupts the tension field action, which is the primary mechanism for SPSW energy dissipation. Most studies reviewed only the relatively thin infill plates and particular boundary conditions, which are highly important but have a gap in thick plates. Caution should be exercised when extrapolating due to thicker infill plates or different frame configurations. Considering a broader range of parameters, further research is necessary to establish comprehensive design guidelines for SPSWs with various opening configurations.
       
  • Analysis of CT scans to differentiate COVID-19 from other lung diseases by
           using Machin learning and preprocessing

    • Abstract: The world’s last pandemic is the coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19), which emerged in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The World Health Organization (WHO) recognized COVID-19 as a pandemic in March 2020. That is why COVID-19 detection became a very important action for controlling the pandemic. So early, it became the main concern of hundreds of researchers in various aspects. In this study, a detection system of two models of COVID-19 detection is proposed, each composed of feature extraction and classification: the first model adopts a pre-trained ResNet 50 model, and the second model extracts features from the ResNet 50 model and classifies them using SVM. Before feature extraction and classification, the system has a phase of preprocessing. The importance of this step is to prepare the data to get better classification rates. The system recognizes three classes, i.e., COVID-19, normal lung, and other lung diseases. As a reliable public dataset of these three classes is not available, a database was created that includes 735 cases that are collected from Kurdistan hospitals. The system was trained and tested using the created database and gave the following results: The highest accuracy of the first model with three classes of data is 91.1% and 75.7% with and without preprocessing, respectively, and the second model achieved an accuracy of 80.7% and 66.1 with and without preprocessing, respectively. The system was also tested using two classes (normal and abnormal) and gave 93.3% and 92.2% for the first and second models, respectively, with preprocessing.
       
  • Evaluation the Sensitivity of three Immunological Diagnostic Technique for
           the diagnosis of Toxoplasmosis

    • Abstract: Background: Toxoplasmosis is widely recognized as a highly widespread parasite infection in humans, capable of vertical transmission from mother to fetus. Clinical problems associated with toxoplasmosis during pregnancy include spontaneous miscarriage, premature labour, stillbirth, and foetal abnormalities.Objective: to evaluate the sensitivity of three immunological methods for the diagnosis of T. gondii in serum and placental tissue of aborted women.Materials and Methods:80 blood and placental Specimens were obtained from women who underwent abortion and were admitted to the Maternity ward and Child hospital in Kirkuk city. Blood samples analyzed for anti-Toxoplasma antibodies IgM and IgG using ELISA and Combo Rapid test and placental samples were tested for Toxoplasma gondii antigen in the placental tissue using Immunohistochemistry technique.Results: The seropositivity of women who had abortions to T. gondii was 30% (IgG) when Rapid test used and 16.3% (IgG) when ELISA used. No Seropositivity of IgM showed in all cases in both rapid test and ELISA. 76.9% from total (13) seropositive cases in ELISA was positive when IHC used.Conclusion: the finding of this study indicates that IHC is more sensitive immunological technique than serological Assay for the direct diagnosis of T. Gondii in the placental tissue of aborted women.
       
  • Calculation Steps of Designing a conventional water purification plant

    • Abstract: This research investigated the design of a conventional drinking water treatment plant for a surface water source to serve urban area in Homs city. The treated water comes from a surface water; Orontes River with values of pH, electrical conductivity, temperature and hardness that meet the Syrian Standards No. 25. The average total suspended solids were 330 mg/L, the turbidity was between 20 and 200 Nephalometric Turbidity Unite (NTU), and the color was 50º. Therefore, the water had to undergo chemical treatment. The design flow was approximately 0.6 m3/h. The treatment steps were recommended based on the water properties as follows: A mechanical rapid mixer for coagulation, aluminum sulfate was used; the dose was determined by jar test, a flocculation tank, a rectangular sedimentation tank, followed by rapid sand filters, the final stage is disinfection using chlorine.
       
  • Impact of Oak Seed Extract and Virkon on Saprolegnia Prevention in Common
           Carp

    • Abstract: Fungal diseases pose a severe threat to freshwater fish, resulting in considerable losses and high mortality rates. The objective of this study was to assess how an extract from the acorn oak species (Quercus aegilops L) affects oxidative stress and the responses of common carp to their diet. Fish weighing sixty, seventy, and eighty grams were divided into eight groups and placed in 70-L tanks filled with water at a density of 3 g/L for the low-density group or ten g/L for the high-density group. Fish were given meals supplemented with 0.0, which acted as a control without exposure to zoospores. The following seven groups were exposed to Saprolegnia zoospores in different amounts of oak extract, namely 5%, 10%, and 15%. Moreover, three groups received treatment for 14 days using a combination of virkon and oak extract. Findings indicated a noteworthy decrease in the amounts of liver catalase (CAT), glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GTP), and Glutathione-s transferase (GTST) (U/I) in all fish groups relative to the control group. Alternatively, there was a notable elevation in the concentration of liver malondialdehyde (MDA) (µmol/L) in fish in contrast to the control group. Oak extract led to considerable increases in the level of liver MDA, whereas the control fish exhibited their lowest levels. Conclusion, incorporating oak extract into the diets of the fish groups led to significant decreases (P < 0.05) in liver levels of CAT, SOD, GTP, G6PD, and GTST. Simultaneously, there was a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the liver MDA level compared to the control group. The outcomes of this study reveal that the groups receiving oak and Virkon exhibited considerable modulation in liver enzymes compared to the groups fed only oak extract.
       
  • The Relationship between Neonatal Jaundice and Maternal and Neonatal
           Factors in Zakho City

    • Abstract: Abstracts: Introduction: Neonatal jaundice is a prevalent physiologic issue in newborns, affecting 60% of full-term and 80% of preterm infants worldwide. It was linked to various factors like gestational age, male sex, birth weight, labor duration, multiple pregnancies, teenage pregnancy, diabetes, Rh and ABO incompatibility, breastfeeding, and vacuum extraction.The aim of the study was to determine the connection between maternal and neonatal variables and newborn jaundice.Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 205 children admitted to Zakho General Hospital in Iraq, analyzing data from peripheral venous blood samples. The study involved hematological investigations, cell indices assessment, and a hybrid test. The ethics committee authorized the study and informed written agreements were obtained from participants. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS vs. 26, with frequencies and percentages used for descriptive statistics. The association between basic demographic characteristics variables and jaundice was studied using a Chi-Square and t-test test. Statistical significance was defined as a p-value of 0.05 or less. Results: A study found 205 newborns with jaundice, with 110 boys and 95 girls. Most were breastfeeding. The majority of mothers were between 20 and 29. The study found 122 cesarean births and 83 vaginal deliveries. Oxytocin was required in 47 cases of spontaneous births. The study found a significant difference in jaundice severity between children born by oxytocin induction and those born spontaneously. The severity of jaundice did not differ significantly between anesthesia techniques.Conclusion: Neonatal jaundice is a common cause of morbidity and death, with male children and oxytocin infusion being the main predictors. However, a causal link between feeding style and high bilirubin levels is not established.
