  • Modeling of wind energy conversion system based on induction generator for
           active and reactive power control

    • Authors: Mazhar Hussain Baloch
      Pages: 12 - 139
Abstract: This manuscript presents the modeling and control design for a wind energy conversion system (WECS). This control scheme is based on a three-phase squirrel cage induction generator driven by a horizontal-axis wind turbine through an overhead transmission network. A static VAR compensator was connected to the squirrel cage induction generator terminals to regulate system parameters such as voltage and power. Through the pitch angle, mechanical power was controlled using Simulink (Matlab). Controllers were designed in Simulink Matlab in order to regulate the parameters of the squirrel cage induction generator. From the simulation results, the response of the proposed system offers good robustness and fast recovery under various system disturbance.

  • Comparative analysis of Solar Generation System With 21- CHB-MLI
integrated SAPF based ANN and AGPSO tuned PI controller to enhance power
           quality

    • Authors: Seema Agrawal, Mahendra Kumar, Mahendra Kumar, D. K. Palwalia
      Pages: 121 - 131
Abstract: This paper represents comparative analysis of artificial neural network (ANN) and AGPSO tuned PI controller based power quality improvement solar generation system. Now a day’s Power quality is a major problem due to non-liner load based on power electronics. SAPF is solution to overcome such power quality issues in dynamic manner. With the use of both soft computing controllers based Shunt active power filter, it is tried to reduce harmonics (distortions), compensate reactive power, enhance power quality and power factor correction of supply voltage. System comprises 21-Level cascaded H-bridge inverter supplied from photovoltaic panel, series coupling inductor and self-supported DC (capacitor) bus. Voltage harmonics of supplied voltage from PV is reduced by 21-level cascades H-bridge inverter in which switching signal is generated by carrier based in phase level shifted pulse width modulation technique. Incremental conductance (IC) MPPT technique is incorporated to maximize PV panel output. Phase locked loop based unit template generation and Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm trained ANN and AGPSO tuned PI controller based DC bus voltage regulation is utilized for current quality improvement in SAPF. Comparative results show the effectiveness of ANN controller than AGPSO tuned PI controller. Suggested model is simulated in Matlab/Simulink 2016(b) for effectiveness.

  • Damping low-frequency oscillations in a Multi-machine Power System using a
           Fuzzy-Multi-Band Power System Stabilizer

    • Authors: sirine ESSALLAH, Adel KHEDHER
      Pages: 140 - 148
Abstract: Synchronous generators are usually equipped with power system stabilizers (PSS) to damp low-frequency oscillations. Among the various types of PSS, it has recently been demonstrated that the Multi-Band PSS (MB-PSS) has a better performance to handle all global, inter-area and local modes. However, the performance of this PSS may degrade since the power supply system is intrinsically non-linear and its operating conditions frequently change. This paper introduces a new design of MB-PSS based on Mamdani Fuzzy inference (Fuzzy-MB-PSS). Compared to the IEEE standard MB-PSS, the proposed stabilizer is more efficient owing to its ability to deal with oscillations at different operating points. The controller is tested on a power system benchmark under various disturbance conditions to prove its robustness and to demonstrate its superiority over conventional PSS and MB-PSS.

  • Analysis of polymer burnout during the start-up process of the MCFC stack

    • Authors: Filip Murawka, Arkadiusz Szczesniak, Alexander Martsinchik
      Pages: 149 - 159
Abstract: The paper contains a comprehensive summary of the current state of research on the polymer burnout process in molten carbonate fuel cells (MCFC). Outline information discussing both MCFC fundamentals and the start-up process are given along with references to the literature. The main part of the article presents the result of an on-site experiment regarding polymer burnout performed on an MCFC stack. The outcomes are discussed and conclusions are clearly stated.

  • Assessment of the benefits of implementing the EMS system on the example
           of a container glass industry

    • Authors: Przemysław Dec, Anna Skorek-Osikowska
      Pages: 160 - 174
Abstract: The paper describes the glass manufacturing process, the process areas and their energy intensity. The implementation of an energy management system, its operation and participation in the decision-making chain as well as benefits from implementation are also described. The use of regression as a numerical technique for determining energy consumption is presented with reference to the historical experience of the glassworks and its developed trends on the example of gas consumption in the melting process in the glass furnace. The paper compared the deviation of actual energy consumption in the glass melting process to that calculated from linear regression variables for data before and after the implementation of the energy management system. The study confirmed the sensibility of implementing the described managing system. Constant observation and response to factors affecting the running process allows for its stabilization and optimization.

  • The Impact of Equivalent Resistance on Power Generation Using PV Module
           During Different Seasons

    • Authors: Usman Mussadiq, Anzar Mahmood, Dr. Hassan Mujtaba Jafri, Amir Mushtaq
      Pages: 175 - 186
Abstract: In the promoted study, the impact of equivalent resistance on power generation using pv module during different seasons is calculated as well as measured. The promoter of this research work intends to complete it in different phases; problem identification, data analysis and the description of results. In the first instance, the technical literature has been put into review to bridge the research gap, to estimate the impact of equivalent resistance on power generation by using PV module during changing seasons. In the second step, the impact estimation is made through Simulink model in MATLAB which is previously not used to calculate the power losses to the best of authors knowledge and an experimental study on a 20kW solar-based energy system in the department of Electrical Engineering, Mirpur university of science and technology is also performed. The results find that the series resistance has a direct relation with working temperature and the shunt resistance varies inversely with solar irradiance.
