    • Authors: Cemal AKÜZÜM; Mehtap SARAÇOĞLU
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to examine the relationship between pre-service teachers’ moral maturity levels and their perceptions of values teaching. This descriptive research was carried out using the relational screening model. The population of the study consists of 2200 teacher candidates studying in the Pedagogical Formation Program of a state university located in the southeast of Turkey. The sample of the study consists of 314 pre-service teachers studying in various programs selected by the random sampling method. As a data collection tool in the research; the “Moral Maturity Scale” and “Activities Used in Value Teaching and Views on Value Teaching Scale” were used. The data obtained from the study were analyzed with the SPSS software. In the analysis of the data; Independent Sample t-Test, One-Way ANOVA, and Simple Linear Regression Analysis were used. As a result of the research, it was seen that the moral maturity levels of the teacher candidates and their perceptions towards value teaching were at a high level. There was no significant difference between pre-service teachers’ perceptions of moral maturity and value teaching with respect to variables such as gender, age, department, and grade level. Finally, it was revealed that pre-service teachers’ moral maturity scores were a significant predictor of the family's role and value teaching total scores.

The content of the language learning process also includes the transfer of culture, so the value transfer in the language teaching materials should be planned and their contents should be arranged accordingly. The aim of this research is to determine to what extent textbooks’ texts that prepared for individuals learning Turkish as a foreign language include values. This study applies descriptive research, which is a one of the methods of qualitative research. The universe of the study consists of Yedi Climate Turkish Teaching Set prepared by Yunus Emre Institute and textbooks prepared by Gazi University TÖMER. A total of ten books, 5 from the Yedi Climate Turkish Teaching Set and 5 from the books prepared by Gazi University TÖMER, were examined. In this study, in which qualitative research was used, data were collected through document analysis. The obtained research data were analyzed through content analysis. As a result of the research, the most common values included in the texts are responsibility and respect. It has been observed that the least common values are patriotism and justice. Another important finding of the research was that the values did not show an equal distribution in exchange rates.

  • Compassionate Love Scale: Validity and Reliability Study

    • Authors: Abdurrahman KILIÇ; Şeyma ŞAHİN, Burcu ÖKMEN
Abstract: In this research, it is aimed to develop a valid and reliable scale that measures the compassionate love perceptions of individuals. After exploratory factor analysis, a scale consisting of 26 items was formed under six factors. It was found that these 26 items explained 63.958% of the total variance. The factors’ names are: 1) Compassionate Love and its Function, 2) Compassionate Love and Behaviors, 3) Compassionate Love and Values, 4) Compassionate Love and Its Source, 5) Compassionate Love and Personal Traits, and 6) Compassionate Love and Differences. As a result of the confirmatory factor analysis, it was determined that the X2/df value was 2.53, the RMSEA value was 0.067, the NFI value was 0.93, the CFI value was 0.95, the GFI value was 0.86, and the AGFI value was 0.83. In the reliability study, the Cronbach's Alpha value of the whole scale was found to be 0.88. In the test-retest reliability, the correlation value between the two tests was found to be 0.78. When all the results of the validity and reliability studies of the scale are examined, it is thought that the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can measure the compassionate love perceptions of individuals.

  • Being the ‘Other’ themselves, Imam-Hatip Graduates’ Perception and
           Attitudes Towards the ‘Other’

    • Authors: Zehra IŞIK
Abstract: In this study, the forms of othering that Imam Hatip graduates are exposed to and its effect on their emotional and thought structures in later stages in life are discussed. In addition, as an “other” the view of Imam Hatip graduates towards the other and their views on the culture of living together are also investigated. Purpose of the study is to determine how Imam Hatip graduates evaluate the forms of othering they are exposed to in education and business life and to reveal their attitudes towards the “other”. Qualitative research method was used in the study and 15 people were interviewed with semi-structured interview technique. Sample group, consists of Imam Hatip graduates who study at a university level or work. It was seen that the participants in general felt like an “other” due to the othering attitudes they dealt with, however, they act with the awareness of having an Imam Hatip identity. It has been understood that Imam Hatip graduates do not have an othering attitude towards various groups in society, since they entertain a culture of living together as a result of the value-based education they received at Imam Hatip high school. At the end of the study, suggestions were presented for enhancing the culture of living together in the society.

  • A Moral Look at the Concept of Identity: Development of Moral Identity
Scale and Investigation of Psychometric Properties

    • Authors: Betül KÜRÜM; Halil EKŞİ
Abstract: The study aims to develop a valid and reliable scale to determine the moral identity levels of adults. The age range for the research group is 18-60 (Xm=28.57; Xsd=9.59). First data was collected using the draft version of the scale. The construct validity of the scale was determined via exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The exploratory factor analysis indicated a 25-items measurement tool that consists of three subscales as emotion, thought, and behavior, which explains 61,413% of the total variance. This structure was consistent with the confirmatory factor analysis results. Criterion-dependent validity analysis showed a significantly positive relationship between the Moral Identity Scale and the Moral Integrity Scale (r=.44; p<.001). The total internal consistency coefficient of the Moral Identity Scale was .94( .94 for the emotion subscale, .87 for the thought subscale, and .84 for the behavior subscale). The upper-lower discrimination index of the scale was calculated via the student's t-test. The results showed that, the Moral Identity Scale was a valid and reliable measurement tool for adults.

  • A Qualitative Study on Disabled Persons with Spinal Cord Paralysis with a
Focus on Religious and Spiritual Guidance

    • Authors: Faruk KANGER
Abstract: Currently, studies in social, psychological, medical, and further relevant areas have been carried out on disabled individuals, and numerous services are provided to them by the public administration, local governments, and the civil society. Among these service areas, the need for religious and spiritual counseling has come to the fore in recent years. Qualitative studies in relevant disciplines and service areas on groups with special qualities in the form of a theoretical needs analysis might help to determine the religious and spiritual needs of people with a spinal cord paralysis and this would contribute to areas of practical service. Qualitative research on people with spinal cord paralysis and their spirituality is very scarce in our country. We have conducted one-and-a-half hour focus group interviews with 15 women, 6 men, 21 adults with spinal cord paralysis, who volunteered for a period of one-week within one month. The findings are structured under three main themes and eight sub-themes (traumatic history, search for meaning, faith, social relations, rituals and worship, social work, sports, search for spirituality). The study aims to determine factors that affect the religious and spiritual well-being of the participant group, their existential, spiritual, and religious search, and the ways they choose for their religious and spiritual well-being. Accordingly, qualified findings are obtained from 59 answers and 222 frequencies of the participants under 3 main themes, and the factors that affect their religious and spiritual well-being, existential and religious questionings, and the ways they choose for their religious and spiritual well-being are determined. As a result of the research, the factors affecting the religious and spiritual well-being of the participants, existential and religious inquiries, and the ways they resorted to for religious and spiritual well-being were determined.

  • European Religious Education Policy

    • Authors: Abdurrahman HENDEK
Abstract: Religious education in schools in Europe must comply with the human rights principles expressed in relevant international human rights conventions and with the case-law produced by supranational courts such as the European Court of Human Rights. Moreover, in recent decades, European organisations such as the Council of Europe and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe have published recommendations, guidelines and reference books concerning religious education in schools. Even though it is early to claim that there is a coherent and homogenous European religious education policy, there is at least a tendency towards unifying it. Therefore, this article discusses the European religious education policy, particularly its principles, namely religious education's place in schools, its model and aims, the right of withdrawal from religious education, and consultation with relevant stakeholders. It is a qualitative research study, which adopts document analysis. The implications of the European religious education policy for national religious education policies are also discussed.
