  • Belief ascription and irrationality: The case of delusions

Abstract In this paper I will focus on the discussion about the possibility to ascribe the status of beliefs to delusions, considering that there is a conceptual tension between the requirement of rationality for belief ascription and the irrationality that delusions exhibit. For this purpose, I will analyse what I call as the “irrationality argument” in the two variants that I identify: the transcendental variant and the empirical variant. Against this argument, I will show that, despite the irrationality that delusional states exhibit, we can continue ascribing to such states the status of beliefs.

  • The brain, the self, and free will: A discussion between Llinás,
           Munévar and Searle

Abstract This text aims at critically reviewing the relationships between the brain, the self and free will based on three theoretical proposals. In the first place, the position of Llinás according to which the self, and with it the free will, is a myth is analyzed. In response to this negative position, the position of Munévar, according to which the self should be understood as the brain in its complexity, is analyzed in the second place. In the third place, the naturalistic proposal of Searle according to which the self should not be understood as the activity of the brain as a whole but as a systemic property that emerges from it is analyzed. In both cases, the consequences that these positions have on the relationship between the brain and the self for free will are evaluated.

  • The problematic conjunction duty and happiness from Kant and Hegel: a
comparative analysis with the ‘aporia of application’

Abstract The main objective of this article is to argue in favor of an aporia in the conjunction duty and happiness due to the underlying structure in each of these elements. To carry out this objective, it will first be exposed that it is not possible to separate happiness from human action since, as well as the performance of duty, it is essential for moral agency. After showing that the separation of both planes is not possible; the difficulties that exist between happiness and duty will be developed in a second moment, given the categorical structure that each of them possesses. Being this the case, it will be shown that the aforementioned conjunction faces difficulties similar to those proposed by Wieland in the aporia of application in the article “Aporia of practical reason.” Therefore, the proposed reading ultimately shows the difficulties of the convergence between the universal and the contingent.

  • The operative closure of the sciences and its various types

Abstract The importance of the idea of categorial closure of Gustavo Bueno for current Spanish philosophy is claimed. The ideas of operative and categorial closure are presented and their similarities and differences are discussed. A classification of the different types of operative closure is proposed. Finally, the importance of these ideas is claimed to establish the demarcation of the sciences against other knowledge and for the classification of the sciences.

  • A contribution to think with / the methodological path of Arendt

Abstract The problem about the method in philosophy has brought about various discussions, to a great extent because based on what is assumed as method, a work or writing can be classified as either philosophical or not philosophical. In the last century, some works that provoked great discussion precisely by invoking that issue of whether or not they were philosophical because of the method used in them were published, specifically the works of Hannah Arendt. In what follows, some of the voices that have participated in these discussions are briefly echoed and a contribution of the analysis of what can be perceived as the methodology used by Arendt is presented. This can be relevant to enrich already existing conversations about ways of saying and doing in philosophy and can provide openings to new ways of saying and doing.

  • Education and the ideal of humanity: A historical approach

Abstract An argument is presented for the thesis that every age has its ideal of human training that necessarily depends on the nature attributed to man or on the definition adopted of «human being». For this purpose, the ideal of each historical period, focusing on four historical ages, is broadly developed. In the first place, in ancient times the Greek ideal is summed up in paideia which represents the perennial effort for holistic education of the individual while in classic Rome such an ideal is synthesized in humanitas which refers to the necessary condition to become a man. Secondly, in Medieval times the ideal of man is based on the Christian conception of revealed truth, and in this sense the cristopaideia includes what the ideal of life, man and education is. In the third place, the Renaissance and Modernity base their human ideal on the promises of Enlightenment, whose confidence in the power of reason presupposes its ability to improve human life. Finally, a revolutionary conception is envisioned based on the approaches of the evolutionary theory and it is suggested that the Evolutionary Epistemology of Karl R. Popper provides a very powerful light to realize the human ideal that is demanded today: a critical individual that does not consider himself holder of the truth, that learns from his errors and that sees in the reason the best way to solve problems.

  • The logical-inferential process as a strategy for the critical reading of
           argumentative texts in middle school

Abstract The purposes of this article are: 1. to talk about the context in which the problem to be addressed originates (reading comprehension at a critical level in the classroom); 2. to establish the background of research and studies carried out about this problem; 3. to briefly present the concepts and theories that have served as the basis for addressing this problem; 4. Some relevant aspects are underlined within the article as a conclusion. The foregoing is seen from different perspectives which range from own vision of the researcher from his teaching practice in the classroom to, as indicated, specify the concepts and theories that have been carried out at the international and national level on the subject, which will allow a judicious examination of the problem that is the object of this paper.

  • Gilles Deleuze. The case of the teaching of philosophy

Abstract This article intends to explore the possibilities of putting into practice some approaches of Deleuze (and Guattari) in a matter as disputed as the teaching of philosophy, more precisely his conceptions of philosophy and history of philosophy. approaches that, however, were not initially intended for this area. What is presented here is not intended to be a treatise on pedagogy or didactics but rather a possible line of approach to this discussion from the perspective of the aforementioned authors.
