  • THE EFFECT OF THE EUCLIDEAN GEOMETRY SHORT LEARNING PROGRAMME USING THE
WORKED-OUT EXAMPLES TEACHING APPROACH ON MATHEMATICS TEACHERS'
           PERFORMANCE

    • Authors: Msebenzi Rabaza, Joleen Hamilton
      Pages: 1 - 16
Abstract: The studies on the worked-out examples teaching approach (WOETA) have been investigated globally and in South Africa, showing gains in learners' performance. This study reports on the Euclidean geometry short learning programme (EGSLP), which used worked-out examples teaching approach (WOETA) intervention to secondary mathematics teachers enrolled in one university campus in the Free State province. This study used one group pretest-posttest research design.65 participants completed the pre-test, participated in WOETA, and later completed the post-test. The WOETA engaged the participants in the Euclidean geometry six topics, straight-line geometry, classification of triangles, Pythagoras, similarity and congruency, properties of polygons, and measurement that helped them to acquire procedural and conceptual knowledge. The findings revealed that the WOETA improved the participants' performance in two topics, straight-line geometry and classification of triangles. In contrast, it failed in four topics Pythagoras, similarity and congruency, properties of polygons, and measurement. Cronbach alpha was used to calculate the reliability of the pre-test and was 0,52, while the post-test reliability was 0.30, and these values were deemed not acceptable and not reliable. The findings also revealed that the WOETA does not affect participants' Euclidean geometry performance.

PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA SECARA DARING [STIMULATING THE ACTIVENESS OF
STUDENTS THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF INTERACTIVE MEDIA IN ONLINE
           MATHEMATICS LEARNING]

    • Authors: Gledis Manoi, Robert Harry Soesanto
      Pages: 43 - 56
Abstract: The activeness of students is important and fundamental to support the effectiveness of online mathematics learning. However, the reality shows that students often lack courage and enthusiastism in asking and answering questions, conveying understanding, and being less involved in doing assignments. Some of these indicate that students are less active in learning mathematics online. One of the efforts that teachers can make is through the application of various interactive media. Therefore, this paper aims to review and examine the implementation of various interactive media as an effort to stimulate the activeness of the students in online mathematics learning. Using descriptive qualitative research methods, it is evident that the implementation of various interactive media can enourage students to be active in online mathematics learning. The implementation of  various interactive media make students pay attention, so they can be encouraged to be actively involved in the learning process. Thus, students can be led to maximaze themselves in every opportunity to glorify God, including in the mathematics learning process. In the application of interactive media, teachers are advised to record every development of student responses for the improvement and development of interactive media.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Keaktifan siswa menjadi hal penting dan mendasar yang dapat menunjang keefektifan pembelajaran matematika secara daring.

UNTUK MEMBANTU PEMAHAMAN KONSEP MATEMATIKA SISWA KELAS VIII [THE
IMPLEMENTATION OF REALISTIC MATHEMATICS EDUCATION (RME) IN ONLINE LEARNING
TO HELP GRADE 8 STUDENTS UNDERSTAND MATHEMATICAL CONCEPTS]

    • Authors: Theresia Ami Meigia Saragih, Kimura Patar Tamba
      Pages: 57 - 73
Abstract: Students' conceptual understanding in Indonesia is still low. In the school that the author observed, students in grade 8 have an average total conceptual understanding of 48% with sufficient criteria. The solution to overcome this problem is by implementing RME. The purpose of writing this paper is to describe the application of RME in helping students understand concepts using descpritive qualitative research methods.  The results of this study indicate that RME is applied in online learning in the following steps: first, providing and explaining contextual problems to be solved by students; second, students solve contextual problems for the development of mathematical models in their own way; third, discuss and compare any problem solving given by students; fourth, students conclude and summarize the concept of the topic being studied. The implementation of RME in online learning is carried out using a flipped classroom approach. In this reverse class approach, horizontal mathematics is done asynchronously while vertical mathematics is synchronous. Students' understanding of concepts after the implementation of RME has increased. In RME knowledge is acquired through horizontal and vertical mathematics, while interactivity in this approach helps students understand concepts.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Pemahaman konsep siswa di Indonesia tergolong masih rendah.

Abstract: The ability of mathematical representation is needed by students to communicate mathematical ideas. However, the student's representation ability is still not optimal, especially in geometry material. The purpose of this study is to describe the representational abilities of students of SMP NU Sunan Ampel in solving geometrical contextual problems. The study was conducted on 19 students at SMP NU Sunan Ampel Poncokusumo. Data was collected through tests and interviews. The indicators of representation ability used are visual representation, symbolic, and verbal. The results of the research are the level of student representation ability as much as 53% in the low category, as much as 42% in the medium category, and as much as 5% in the high category. Students with high representation ability can fulfill the indicators of visual, symbolic, and verbal representation well according to their abilities. Students with moderate representational abilities can meet the indicators of symbolic representation, but there are still errors in writing and calculations. Students with low representation ability have not reached the three indicators of representational ability well as a whole according to their abilities. It is hoped that the teacher can provide practice questions to students by requiring students to describe and write down the mathematical model in detail and completely. In addition, the teacher can also introduce various forms of flat shapes in contextual problems so that students can be trained to solve contextual problems related to flat shapes.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Kemampuan representasi matematika sangatlah dibutuhkan oleh siswa untuk mengkomunikasikan ide matematika. • PENERAPAN PENGUATAN POSITIF TERHADAP KETERLIBATAN PERILAKU SISWA DALAM
PEMBELAJARAN JARAK JAUH [THE IMPLEMENTATION OF POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT ON
           STUDENTS’ BEHAVIOR IN DISTANCE LEARNING]

    • Authors: Ardine Deosari, Oce Datu Appulembang
      Pages: 90 - 106
Abstract: Student engagement is a manifestation of the responsibility of students as humans to God. Humans have responsibility to be involved in caring for and protecting the earth (Gen. 1:28). So, it is fitting for students to be involved in every process of their life, including learning. Distance learning is negatively affected when students are late joining the video conference, are mostly silent when the teacher asks questions, do not listen to teacher instructions properly which causes them not to return to the video conference, and do not answer when called on by the teacher. Positive reinforcement is given to stimulate and increase student motivation, increase student attention in the learning process, and increase student learning activities. The purpose of this study is to describes the application of positive reinforcement methods on the involvement of student behavior in distance learning and see the positive impact. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Based on the research, it was found that by applying four forms of positive reinforcement according to the principles of warmth and enthusiasm, meaningfulness, avoiding negative responses, and using various positive reinforcements, students can be encouraged in their behavior and involvement in learning. It also encourages other aspects, such as student discipline, student creativity, student confidence, and student learning attitudes.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Keterlibatan siswa merupakan salah satu perwujudan tanggung jawab siswa sebagai manusia kepada Allah.

Abstract: This study was motiviated by a situation where grade 2 elementary students studying mathematics were not demonstrating responsibility in daily tasks, were challenged in mastering mathematical concepts, and were lacking optimal problem-solving skills. The purpose of this study was to analyze the increased responsibility, improved conceptual understanding, and improved mathematical problem-solving skills of grade 2 elementary students using the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach with multiplication and division concepts. This study adopted class action research consisting of three cycles. Each cycle consisted of four stages, namely planning, action, observation, and reflection. The research subjects were 15 grade 2 elementary school students. This research was conducted at SDS XYZ, Jakarta. The data was collected through observations, tests, and documentation. The instruments used in this study were assessment rubrics and test questions. The results of this study have revealed that the application of the Concrete-Pictorial-Abstract (CPA) approach can improve responsibility with scores of 53.2, 54.9, and 62.6 respectively from cycle I to cycle III although the specified standard score was not reached. There was also evidence of improved conceptual understanding with scores of 73.3, 74.5, and 80.2 and mathematical problem-solving skills with scores of 72.1, 78.8, and 85.8 respectively from cycle I to III.BAHASA INDONESIA ABSTRACT: Dilatarbelakangi oleh kondisi kurangnya sikap tanggung jawab siswa dalam mengembangkan tugas dikehidupan sehari-hari, rendahnya kemampuan penguasaan konsep Matematika, serta belum optimalnya kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa kelas II SD dalam pembelajaran Matematika, dan kurang bervariasinya metode yang digunakan, sehinggga pembelajaran tidak kondusif menjadi bahan penelitian tesis ini.
