Authors:Muhammad Muhammad Nasir, Haula Noor Pages: 107 - 122 Abstract: This research examines female religious authority in northern Nigeria, with a specific emphasis on Malama Zainab Ja'afar Mahmood Adam. The research investigates how Malama Zainab negotiates her authority amidst controversies surrounding her public presence as a preacher and Qur'anic exegete within the male dominated Izala movement, a prominent reform movement with widespread influence throughout West Africa and beyond. Employing a qualitative approach, the study delves into Malama Zainab's background, social capital development, and association with Izala, utilizing both secondary sources and indepth interviews with her. The findings highlight Malama Zainab's efforts in bringing women to the forefront within mosque spaces and other gender-segregated settings, fostering their religious participation publicly. While her public activities primarily target female audiences, her preaching and proselytizing reach males through social media platforms, expanding her influence beyond traditional boundaries. Importantly, the findings also shed light on how the historical exclusion of women in socio-religious spaces in northern Nigeria is based on cultural and traditional interpretations rather than explicit religious prohibitions. Hence, the research contributes to the broader understanding of female religious authority, shedding light on the under-recognition of female scholars in comparison to their male counterparts in many Muslim-majority countries. Authors:Thanaa Shaker Pages: 139 - 155 Abstract: This study investigates the impact of marginalizing religious curriculum in the public-school system on the tolerance levels among Egyptian youth. Unlike previous research associating religious instruction with radicalization, this study offers new perspectives on the detrimental effects of marginalizing religious education in fostering tolerance. It argues that a balanced religious education can prevent the radicalization of young individuals by extremist groups. The central question is whether education significantly influences the radicalization process. The argument suggests that the secularization of education has intensified interest in Islam, leading to polarization fueled by radical factions with pre-existing objectives. Using a qualitative methodology, specifically a case study design, the research conducted interviews with 57 participants from the national school background. Findings reveal that marginalizing Islamic curricula has adverse effects on promoting tolerance among youth. The study aims to provide education officials with insights into the negative consequences of marginalizing religious curricula, emphasizing the need for a nuanced approach to religious education within the broader educational framework. Recognizing and addressing these consequences can contribute to building a more tolerant and cohesive society PubDate: 2023-12-30 DOI: 10.18326/attarbiyah.v8i2.139-155 Issue No:Vol. 8, No. 2 (2023)
Authors:Suwantoro Suwantoro, Fiena Saadatul Ummah, Mohammad Farah Ubaidillah Pages: 157 - 173 Abstract: This research is focused on the importance of efforts to strengthen the social competence of lecturers and students in the university environment. More specifically, this study emphasizes the urgency of the principle of religious moderation in enhancing the social competence of lecturers and students, in line with the curriculum policy of independent learning and independent campus (MBKM). As a new paradigm in the world of education, MBKM provides students with the freedom to learn with the aim of creating an inclusive learning environment that is relevant to the needs and demands of the workforce. Through a literature review and qualitative analysis using the Miles & Huberman interactive data analysis, which includes three main steps: data condensation, data display, and conclusion/verification, the results indicate that the principles of religious moderation, such as Tawassuth (taking the middle path), Tawāzun (balance), I'tidāl (straightforwardness and firmness), Tasāmuh (tolerance), Musāwah (egalitarianism), and Syurā(consultation), contribute to strengthening the social competence of lecturers and students in implementing the independent curriculum policy. This research provides conceptual insight into creating an inclusive university environment in a diverse society by adopting the principles of moderation. Creating such conditions will make it easier to implement MBKM policy programs. PubDate: 2023-12-31 DOI: 10.18326/attarbiyah.v8i2.157-173 Issue No:Vol. 8, No. 2 (2023)
Authors:Kholfan Zubair Taqo Sidqi, Laila Ngindana Zulfa, Fouad Larhzizer Pages: 175 - 188 Abstract: This research aims to find out that during the reign of the Ottoman Empire there was inter-religious tolerance. There were even concrete contributions from Turkish Sultans respecting followers of other religions, providing protection for Christians and Jews who were hit by bloody conflicts. Several areas of the Turkish Sultanate allowed residents of different religious beliefs to live. Through the social structure that has been created by Muslim, Christian and Jewish citizens can live together in peace and tranquility. The research method is carried out by collecting information and data of various kinds of materials in the library such as reference books, results of similar previous research, articles, notes, and various journals related to the problem. The results are that the reality of religious tolerance and protection of non-Muslims during the Ottoman era was implemented well, especially since there was the al-Qanun law which generally regulated the legal system for its territory with an emphasis on the benefit of the ummah. There is also a Millet System that specifically regulates Muslims and non-Muslims living peacefully. The fact that the conquest of Constantinople did not destroy places of worship, nor did it force the conquered people to convert to Islam. Authors:Firdaus Firdaus, Makhful Makhful Pages: 189 - 202 Abstract: The aim of this research is to explore approaches to strengthening character education, describe Al-Islam and Muhammadiyahan learning models, and analyze supporting and inhibiting factors for strengthening character education through Al-Islam and Muhammadiyahan based on the Independent Curriculum. This research is field research with a qualitative approach at SMK Muhammadiyah Sampang. The technique for taking subjects in this research used purposive sampling, data was obtained by interviews, observation and documentation. The results of this research explain that strengthening character education is carried out through several activities such as the habit of tadarus, midday prayers in congregation, midday prayers, Friday routine studies, and Sunday morning studies. These activities are integrated with ISMUBA subjects which include aqidah, morals, worship, al-Qur'an, dates, muhammadiyahan and Arabic. The ISMUBA learning model uses the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model by presenting factual cases related to the material to be studied. Supporting factors for strengthening character education are the professionalism of human resources (teachers and staff), massive training and workshops in the Independent Curriculum. Meanwhile, the inhibiting factors are the absence of guidebooks for students and teachers, low student interest and awareness of ISMUBA material, and family background. Authors:Ianatut Thoifah, Muhammad Yusuf, Nanang Khosim Pages: 203 - 216 Abstract: This research aims to analyze the focus of developing Al-Qur'an learning methods with a learning style approach and the achievements of Al-Qur'an learning methods. The research approach uses a qualitative approach and is of the metasynthesis type. Collecting data to answer the existing problem formulation, researchers analyzed learning method guidebooks totaling 7 trends in Al-Qur'an learning methods, articles from journals, and other supporting books. The results of this research indicate that the focus of the development of trends in Al-Qur'an learning methods in Indonesia is more towards audio and visual learning styles. The achievements of the trend in Al-Qur'an learning methods in Indonesia can be seen from the ability to read the Al-Qur'an in tartil, understand gharib and the basics of recitation; knowing random hijaiyah letters, memorizing the Koran, especially short letters; makhraj, and writing Arabic letters. It can be concluded that each method has similarities in developing methods with an audio and visual learning style approach, while the differences between each method can be seen in the achievement of Al-Qur'an learning indicators, but each method has not shown results.
