  • Al-Ghazâlî’s Concept of Causality and Quantum Physics:
           Finding a Point of Relevance

    • Authors: Hasan Al-Asy'ari, Yongki Sutoyo, Aldy Pradhana
      Pages: 189 - 210
Abstract: Al-Ghazâlî views the connection between what is believed to be natural cause and effect is not necessary. For him, God is the Agent in every event. He is the determining factor. As a result, a natural event cannot be seen with certainty, in other words it is probabilistic. On the other hand, quantum physics developed in the early 20th century, which tries to explain the microscopic world is only able to predict events probabilistically. So it can be said that quantum physics that emerged at the beginning of the 20th century supports and affirms the views of al-Ghazâlî formulated in the 11th century at least in terms of probability. In addition, the many strange and complicated things that have not been well explained in the atomic world should be an indication that a more in-depth and thorough study of the universe leads to an increasingly "visible" Entity that is Almighty, namely God—where He has made nature as the âyât (signs) of His existence. Furthermore, from this study of al-Ghazâlî’s concept of causality and quantum physics, it can be understood that there are differences that become the end of the problem, namely metaphysical beliefs. So that an important effort that must be made to build Islamic science is to form an intellectual commitment based on metaphysical beliefs originating from Revelation.

  • Contemporary Shariah and Legal Pertinent Issues in Cash Waqf Mechanism
using Peer To Peer (P2p) Platform in Indonesian Islamic Economics

    • Authors: Akhmad Affandi Mahfudz
      Pages: 211 - 226
Abstract: The remarkable growth of financial technology wreaks significant impact to the liquidity of Islamic financial industry. Cash waqf now is perceived as the right instrument to ameliorate the issue of liquidity amid modest effort of financial industry in Indonesia. Cash waqf using P2P (Peer to Peer) platform model now is becoming the untapped potential of business beside social responsibility. However, there are some issues as cash waqf integrated with P2P platform that might lead to another phenomenon of shariah compliance in financial technology. In view of this backdrop, this paper aims to unveil the issue of shariah compliance in contract that used to disburse cash waqf funds using P2P platform model. Second, this paper also deciphers some legal issues that might occur that contrary to the existing law. The paper finds that since the existing regulation including Fatwa considered as general, there is possibility that the practice of P2P shariah deviate from Shariah tenet and wreak some legal issues. In the event of default payment, late charges and early settlement not clearly regulated and no standard. This paper also finds that no such governance standard, risk management, shariah compliance and code of ethics oThe contract inherent in this platform model shall be in line with the tenet of Shariah principles and not only comply with existing regulation. This paper implies that more cash waqf will be generated through this platform model as it is easier and more practical. In addition, financial industry will adhere strictly to shariah compliance aspect as their concern.

  • The Historical Criticism and Causality in The Philosophy of History: Ibn
           Khaldun’s Perspective

    • Authors: Muhammad Faqih Nidzom, Fiqhi Akbar Rafsanjani
      Pages: 227 - 246
Abstract: This study will reveal how ibn Khaldun's philosophy of history, especially on his historical criticism and the concept of causality. This research is based on literature and qualitative research that uses a philosophical approach to explain the meaning of philosophy of history. This research presented Ibn Khaldun's criticism on historians' subjectivity in observing history. He believed that history progressed in the spiral pattern that moved repetitively, but the repetition continued towards progression. According to Ibn Khaldun, history is under the laws that control it, and the historical reality is a unity, not independent, and has a relationship with each other. To know the nature of civilization, all the needs to do is know the causes, principles, and elements contained in a civilization. There are four causes make the nature of civilization; ‘umrân as material cause, daulah as formal cause, ‘ashabiyah as efficient cause, and mashâlih ‘âmmah as final cause.

  • Enhancing The Indonesian Translation of Quran: Morphological and
           Historical Semantic Analysis

    • Authors: Anggi Azzuhri
      Pages: 273 - 290
Abstract: Translating Qur'an must be conducted with a distinct methodology because of its outstanding features, which other languages cannot accommodate. Despite the terminology, translation of the Qur'an is more similar to Quran exegesis than the definition of modern translation. The difference occurs in the delivery language to which the original text is translated. The gap between Arabic and another language occasionally creates a failure to reach the accurate translation, particularly in the Indonesian Qur’an translation. Encountering the problems: semantic distortion, the linguistic features gap, simplicity of translation, the translation needs to be revised by employing Morphological and Historical Semantic analysis, which several scholars and translators had conducted. These two analyses provide translators with significant help to grasp precisely and translate accurately. In this study, two terms are analysed: tafakkara and hakim. The former term is problematic due to its morphology issue in understanding and translating, which the analysis reveals that the proper translation is kontemplasi than berfikir. The latter term is subjected due to its multiplex meaning. The analysis results in that the translation must be explained further in the additional note. Despite the findings, the initial translator team had done a proper translation for the 60s and 70s; since the Indonesian language develops afterward, the translation becomes partly vague; hence this analysis can tackle this issue.

  • Revisiting Behaviourism Theory of Learning: an outline with Islamic
           Education

    • Authors: Khairan Muhammad Arif
      Pages: 291 - 314
Abstract: Research on the correction of the theory of  learning behaviorism perspective of Islamic education aims to reveal and explain the  weaknesses  of the  theory of learning behaviorism introduced and practiced by the figures of the psychological school of behaviorism such as;  Edwart L. Thorndike (1874-1949), Ivan Pavlov (1849-1936) and B. F Skinner (1904-1990), especially related to the  concept of learning, the nature  of  learners and the motivation of learning that many educational practices conventional western, then provides a more precise and comprehensive concept related to learning, the nature of human or learner potential  and learning motivation in the Qur'an and As-Sunnah.   This research method  uses a qualitative method with an analytical description approach that aims to explain and describe the problems studied authentically, literatively and thematically, as well as scientifically analyze  the research object that gives birth to conclusions.  The source of this research is the library (Library Research), by tracing and examining a large part of the main references to the  theory of  behaviorism such as the  work of B.F. Skinner, Science and Human Behavior, works Robert M. Gagne, The Condition of Learning and Theori of Instruction" and others.  The results of this study show that Islamic education found the weaknesses of behaviorist theory me which equated human psychology with animals, equating cognitive and emotional human beings with animals and the view that the motivation of learning is only from outside the human self, so it always requires a stimulus and response in learn. • The Urgence of Values in Islamic Education (Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas
           Thought Study)

    • Authors: Arif Rahmatullah, Syamsul Hidayat, Muh. Nur Rochim Maksum
      Pages: 315 - 334
Abstract: human life, including in the world of education. However, behind the rapid development that has occurred, it turns out that there is also a severe problem, namely the crisis of values which includes morals, manners, and human spirituality. The emergence and development of these problems stem from a secular worldview, where God and religion are not central and influential in life activities. This has resulted in the deconsecration of values, which in the end everything that is done in life is only materialistic. Even in the education sector, it is more directed to produce pragmatic education so the education mostly only prioritizes job skills without paying attention to the morality of educational output. Therefore, many people have the skills to work, but in terms of morals, etiquette, and spirituality, they are left behind. This differs diametrically from the Islamic worldview which makes God the primary goal of life. Thus, Islam does not experience problems regarding the relationship of religion and life. Islam views on education is not only to fulfill worldly needs but also more than that, education is something that people needs to make themselves the best human being (Insan Kamil). Education in Islam also serves to get closer to Allah SWT, with the increase of knowledge that people gain through education, the quality of their worship of Allah SWT will also increase. Therefore, the worldview of values in education will determine how the process and the output of education itself. Assuming that the worldview has been embedded in educators and students. Then, the value of education will be the value of quality, because the educational process carried out of aims to produce quality outputs and outcomes. This is the reason why S.M.N al-Attas uses the concept of Ta’dib orders to instill the values that need to be built in Islamic education. Hence, this article is expected to provide the following implications: First, the shift in the worldview of educators and students; Second, provide orientation to the process of Islamic education; Third, encourage improvements and refinements to the process of Islamic education.
