      Abstract: The use of social networks among students at higher institutions has become popular and is widely celebrated amid criticism. This is because these social networks are changing the way people communicate, interact, and socialize. The purpose of this paper is to explore students' awareness and use of social media: a study of ICT students at Kwara State University, Nigeria. This study used a survey research method. The respondents were students’ faculty of information and communication technology, and the results reveal that the majority of respondents (91.4%) are familiar with social networks, have access to the Internet, and regularly use mobile phones for social networking. Less than half (8.6%) of them speak and share information on social media. While results also show that participants intentionally use social networks for academic purposes, self-expression, and to establish global friendships,

      Abstract: The present study is inclined towards identifying the cause and awareness of the scholarly community in institutes of higher education toward the issue of academic dishonesty. A questionnaire was distributed to research scholars pertaining to the faculty of science and social science of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. The results show that the students are aware of the issue of plagiarism and academic dishonesty. However, due to lack of encouragement to be fair and thorough system they do not consider it to be a big challenge. The author recommends mission mode action for awareness of students and faculty towards the issue of fair use and plagiarism. It has also been emphasised for all Indian universities to design a proper mechanism and honour code for all academic outputs to be channelized through review and anti-plagiarism system.

      Abstract: The continuous advancement of children in sizes and knowledge, influences their curiosity and need for information which in turn precedes their information seeking patterns. The Children’s section in public libraries saddled with the responsibilities of meeting the information needs of children ensures that there are adequate information resources available for children. This study was carried out in Kwara State Library, Nigeria, with the aim of identifying the information seeking patterns and needs of children in Kwara State Library. To achieve this aim, four objectives were formulated. Which are; to identify the sources of information available to children in Kwara state library; to investigate the information need of children in Kwara state library, to identify the information seeking patterns of children in Kwara state library, and to identify the challenges faced by children in the library. The targeted population for the study were children from age 2-18 years. One hundred (100) questionnaires were designed and distributed to the children in Kwara state library, Nigeria. A total of ninety-one (91) questionnaires were retrieved and analyzed using SPSS statistical package. The findings of the study show that the children’s sections of Kwara state library has varieties of information resources for children; story books, cartoon and artworks, textbooks, comic magazine, pictorial books, cartoon books, and educational toys. The study also found that the dominant information need of the children is related more to education than to recreation. The study found that the major challenges faced by children in the Kwara state library are; difficulty of librarians in understanding children’s information needs, and inability of the children in using library catalogues. The study recommended training sessions for the Kwara State library staff to train them on best approaches of rendering library services to children. The study also recommended a training session for the children on how to use library catalogues.

  • Digital Literacy Competency Among Users Of Visva- Bharati Central Library:

      Abstract: The change of internet from Internet Relay Chat to social media has become core part of continuous evolution and interactions of human beings. In this changing universe to be core part, one should be digitally literate and competent to accept and challenge the tasks easily. Web technologies are trending day by day, which aims to enhance social and economic standards and also to attract and contribute in growth and sustainable development.This paper aims to investigate about the actual aspect of digital literacy competency, frequently used databases ,use of virtual media application, social media use preference, awareness of plagiarism detection software, web technologies awareness and utilization among library users of Visva-Bharati central library to fulfill their academic performance.To accomplish research, systematic reviews and survey method was adopted with questionnaire as an important tool for smooth collection of data from library users, where questionnaire in both online and offline mode was framed to conduct present survey. Questionnaires were distributed among users to get various interesting responses related to comfort level and ease of adopting digital tools and technologies, awareness and use of different plagiarism detection software’s, social media preference to accomplish their academic chores etc. It was found that 71.62%users are comfortable in using computer applications. 95.94% users frequently use google scholar as databases for academic search.100.00% users use google meet as virtual media application in learning purpose etc. To conclude with there is need of web 3.0 tools and technologies literacies among users as they were not aware with various emerging tools.

  • Work-Life Balance (WLB): a select study of women library professionals in
           an Indian Metropolitan city

      Abstract: This research study was primarily designed to study the work-life balance of women library professionals in the metropolitan city of Pune in India from Maharashtra State. The primary purpose of the study is to explore the tough challenges faced by women librarians in maintaining a balance between their personal and professional life during the pre and post covid period. The study has examined various factors affecting the work-life balance of the respondents during the pre and post covid period using the quantitative research design. Further, the use of the survey research method and snowball sampling technique for the data collection purpose where the sample of 30 women librarians is been studied during the pre-covid period, the method of convenience sampling is utilized to get the responses of the respondents using the unstructured interview technique the virtual model. The study concluded that there is a high level of stress (66%) among the women librarian respondents during the post covid period due to work and life balance factors, 70% of librarians mentioned the increased workload due to a changed focus for increased online subscriptions and more electronic media acquisitions, and the pressure for upgradation. The study has observed that about 46 % of women library professionals giving time for self-attention, and 43% of women librarians are exercising daily; indicating the need to give self-attention.

  • Information Needs and Seeking Behaviour of Road Transport Employee

      Abstract: The study sought to identify the information needs and information-seeking behaviour of Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) Members in Yenagoa Branch, Bayelsa State. The specific purpose of the study was to: examine the information needs of Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria members in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria; find out how Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria members in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria seek for needed information; determine the problems encountered by Road Transport Employee Association of Nigeria members in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, Nigeria while seeking for needed information; and proffer solutions to the determined problems of information seeking by RTEAN members. Four research questions were formulated to guide the study. The study adopted a descriptive survey design and the sample comprised two hundred and twenty (222) RTEAN members out of a population of 882 drivers registered in ten motor parks. A questionnaire was used to generate data for the study and the data generated were analysed using frequency tables and percentages. The park chairmen were used as research assistants to distribute and retrieve the copies of the questionnaire. The copies of the questionnaire were administered to those literate members who could respond to them. The result revealed that their most important information needs are; information on how to avoid accidents, where to get the best (superior) spare parts, and to know the most lucrative routes, while the most common strategies adopted to get information are through union activities, consulting friends and experts. Some of the problems associated with seeking information include time factors, illiteracy and the absence of information centres. Solutions were proffer on the basis of the findings of the study that government should establish information centres in the motor parks, as this will go a long way in making information readily available to these road transport workers, who also contribute to the national and state economy.

  • Digital Devices and Digital Literacy Skills Among Library and Information
           Science Students in Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa
           State, Nigeria

      Abstract: The study focused on Digital Devices and Digital Literacy Skills Among Library and Information Science Undergraduate Students in Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, Nigeria. Survey design was used. The population of the study covered the 200 and 300-level students of the Department of Library and Information Science, Niger Delta University. The sample size of the study was 165. The total enumeration sampling technique was used to determine the sample size of the study. The instrument used for data collection was a self-constructed questionnaire. Descriptive statistics were used in the analysis. The findings revealed that students of LIS, Niger Delta University, use their own smartphones, laptops, and other types of digital devices. Poor information search skills, epileptic power supply, inability to provide internet connectivity with free access, inability to manage myriads of information sources, were some of the major challenges of the respondents. Arising from the findings, recommendations were made to include the provision of internet services within the school premises for easy access by students of LIS at all times so as to reduce the cost of data subscriptions for daily academic activities in order to keep pace with information creation use and knowledge sharing. Secondly, the issue of epileptic power supply should be tackled and alternatives provided.

This paper titled “Utilizing the Potentials of Big Data in Nigeria Library Environments by Recommender Services”, focuses on the concept and characteristics of big data and its importance in complementing traditional library services, areas for applying big data systems in libraries, the concept of recommender systems and how it works, adopting recommender systems in libraries for maximum benefits, tools, and techniques for setting up big data recommender systems in libraries, challenges of big data recommender systems in libraries in Nigeria and strategies for overcoming big data challenges in library systems. The paper is based on a contextual analysis of literature from various scholarly works. The paper will also proffer recommendations based on the study.

  • Mentoring As A Tool For Re-Skilling The Academic Librarian In ICT Age

      Abstract: AbstractsWithout doubt, the increase in ICT has proven a library to be a living and growing organism. Coping with technology changes are the principal driving forces of the emerging information age librarian and it seems most librarians are less equipped through formal training for the technological demand in library services. The study investigated the use of mentoring as a tool for re-skilling the academic librarian in the ICT age. Descriptive survey was adopted for the study and total enumeration was used for the sample as all the librarians in the university were used for the study. The questionnaire was the instrument used for collection of data from 18 respondents and it was self-constructed. The name of the instrument is Mentoring: Tool for Re-skilling Academic Librarian in ICT age METORALI. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistics using tables and mean. Finding reveals that Academic Librarians studied are conversant with ICT in Library and 55.6% learnt more of ICT in library services on the Job. Furthermore the study revealed that ICT increases work speed, helps in accuracy of work, and introduces new areas of specialization in librarianship, and respondents indicate that they are willing to be mentored. On the same hand, Academic Librarians observe internal training and pairing of old and experienced staff to new staff as a way of re-skilling an Academic Librarian. The study recommended that Academic Libraries should be intentional in creating working organizational mentoring programs for their libraries, in order to equip the young librarians with the new task created by ICT in library services. In pairing mentor-mentee, management should compare characteristic traits in order for smooth collaboration and a smooth mentoring process.

      Abstract: Abstract The term knowledge society depicts societies having a strong reliance on the use of knowledge in varied forms, discovered through technological or scientific research. The explosion of information resources characterized by the information age has contributed significantly to the competitive advantage among nations, companies and societies through the skillful application of knowledge. A major attribute of the knowledge society is the prominent attention given to education, research and development(R&D) for the purpose of scaling up the human capital resources needed to proffer effective solutions to problems. In this regard, the focus of stakeholders is to ensure continuous networking between knowledge producers and users. An important stakeholder in this knowledge era is the law librarian. A law librarian is a special information professional with hybrid professional qualifications, skilled in collecting, curating, and disseminating legal information to members of the legal profession for the purpose of facilitating the growth of legal knowledge. However, with the emergence of knowledge societies, where human capital(knowledge), human competence, expertise, and effectiveness are considered as the driving economic resources, the traditional role of law librarian as an information provider must give way to the new responsibility as knowledge facilitator.       Abstract: The purpose of the study is to know the ICT skills of library staff in Nigerian institutions: A case study of all institutions in Ekiti State, Nigeria. The sample for the study consisted of 150 librarians across institutions in Ekiti State, Nigeria who were randomly selected through simple random sampling. The extent to which library staff can prove their knowledge towards information and communication technology (ICT) skills, the ability of library staff towards information and communication technology (ICT), how library staffs are able to identify or recognize relevant information sources and the effectiveness of information and communication technology (ICT) literacy skills programmes for the institution libraries in Ekiti State. Findings show that institutions’ libraries have enough ICT facilities and their staffs are well familiar with them in order to deliver their services which can help the library staff in delivering their services very well. It further reveals that ICT skills were well known and made use of, by libraries staffs. Moreover, results indicated that different sources of information are recognized by the libraries staffs while the ICT programmes are available to develop themselves. These recommendation was made after the study that more ICT facilities are needed, latest ICT facilities should replace the former outdated facilities, libraries staffs should attend more ICT facilities training and seminars, In-house training should be regular e.g six (6) months interval, latest familiarized ICT package should be introduce to enhance the service rendered to patrons and library staff need to work with the ICT department in the institution for achieving parental goal.

  • Academic Librarians ICT Competency and Skills Towards Efective Library

      Abstract: The study investigated the academic librarians ICT competency and skills towards effective library services in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Sample for the study comprised about 100 librarians who were randomly selected through simple random sampling. The type of ICT skills possessed by the librarian, level of their ICT competency, sources of ICT skills acquisition and the Challenges Librarians face when using ICT in delivering Library services in their respective libraries were the instruments used to collect relevant data for the study. Findings from the study indicated that librarians have both basic and intermediate ICT skill in the area of their specialization. Results showed that respondents acquire skills from rightful sources which can help them to perform their duties has librarian effectively. Study recommended more availability of ICT equipment in the library, stable electricity is needed, staff motivation, employ ICT expert to train others staff regularly and increment in library budget

      Abstract: In this research work “Assessment of Information and Communication Technology Skills in Operation and Service Delivery by Para Professionals of University of Jos Library” is to assess the information and communication technology skills in operation and service delivery by para professionals of University of Jos Library. The objective is to-find out the type of Information and Communication Technology resources available for use by para professional staff in the library; to ascertain the level of understanding of Information Communication Technology by the para professionals in the library; to assess the level of utilization of the Information Communication Technology skills acquired by the para professionals in the library in performance of their daily activities; and to determine the challenges faced by para professionals in the library in utilization of the acquired Information Communication Technology skills. A Survey research methodology was adopted. Questionnaire was the preferred instrument for data collection. Para Professional Staff of University of Jos Library formed the population of the study. A stratified sampling technique was used and 80 people were sampled. The study shows that university of Jos library is equipped with some Information Communication Technology facilities which include: computers, photocopier, projectors, television, printers, etc. Majority of the staff have access to these facilities. They use these facilities mainly for performing services in the library and for social networking. Lack of computer literacy, power failure, insufficient Information Communication Technology facilities, management reluctance, formed the major challenges of accessing and using Information Communication Technology facilities in university of Jos library. It was then suggested that tertiary institutions should allocate a reasonable budget to libraries to enable them acquire the needed Information Communication Technology facilities, and also to ensure constant power supply in the institutions. This research show that majority of the Para Professionals in University of Jos Library are moderately computer literate.

      Abstract: The need for the use of edutainment videos in the teaching and learning of preschool children cannot be overstated. This study therefore examined the effect of edutainment videos on literacy skills acquisition among preschool children. Implication for updating children’s audio-visual library. Two research questions and three hypotheses guided the study. The study adopted the non-equivalent pretest posttest quasi-experimental research design. The study population comprised all the nursery three preschool children in Nsukka LGA for the 2021/2022 academic year. A sample of 95 preschool children drawn through judgmental sampling technique were studied. The Literacy Skills Acquisition Test (LSAT) was the instrument used for data collection. Data obtained were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answer the research questions while analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used in obtaining the results for testing the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings showed that edutainment videos had significant positive effect (p < 0.05) on literacy skills acquisition among preschool children in Nsukka LGA of Enugu State. It also revealed that gender has no significant influence (p> 0.05) on literacy skills acquisition among preschool children in the LGA. It further showed that there is no significant interaction effect (p> 0.05) of teaching approaches and gender on the mean literacy skills scores of preschool children. Based on these results, it was therefore recommended among others, that teachers should use edutainment videos in teaching preschool children in order to enhance their acquisition of literacy skills.

      Abstract: ABSTRACTThis study carried out an appraisal of traditional and modern methods of security of information resources in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Library. The population of the study consists of 51 library staff, and sample size of the study was 44 library staff which was selected randomly using simple random sample techniques. Three research questions were formulated to guide this study. Data was collected using the questionnaire, and was analysed with descriptive statistics such as mean, and simple percentage. The study revealed that the traditional method of security of information resources used in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University library includes: Security Clearance check at entrance/exit door, Library stamp at certain adopted pages of library books, Single Door Entry-Exit for Staff & User, Library cards as access entry authorization, Security Guards Employed to Patrol, Fire Extinguisher & Security Equipment, and Signature of every user. The study revealed that, the Modern method of security of information resources used in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University library include: Air conditioner for Humidity control, CCTV camera, Use of password/ access code, and Digital Data Security Systems (like antivirus). The finding of the study revealed that the challenges facing the traditional and modern method of security of information resources use in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University library include: Inadequate fund, Poor power supply, low policy implementation, inadequate professional librarian, and Inadequate library staff. Based on the finding the study recommended as follows: Library management should market library product and services to the users, and take advantage of fee based library services to generate more fund in addition to that coming from the parent institution; and Library management should take adequate measure to acquire big capacity solar energy, and big generator set for library services, to solve the issue of poor power supply.

  • Awareness Of Social Media Privacy & Security: A Study Among Engineering
           Students In Spsr Nellore Dist., A.P.

      Abstract: This paper presents the results of a study conducted on the engineering student’s awareness of social media privacy and security issues. For this purpose, the survey method was adopted and a questionnaire was administered among the engineering students. The results revealed that majority of the respondents (60.8 percent) are reading the privacy policies on social media Majority of the respondents (76.31 percent) are avoiding friend requests from unknown persons. The study recommends that the users of social media should not assume that all privacy policies are identical; they vary from one platform to another; also, they do not provide sufficient information about how they disperse the personal information.

  • Bibliometric Study of DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information

      Abstract: The Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) is one of the most leading journals of the LIS field and it is published by DESIDOC. It has recently finished very nearly 39 years of its publication. The main objective of this study is to cover various aspects of the journal through Bibliometric analysis. This paper presents a Bibliometric analysis of DJLIT during 1981-2018. During the period of 1981-2018, total 990 full-length articles were published in a particular journal. This study cover various parameters like distribution of full-length articles on yearly basis, category wise classification of the articles, authorship pattern of the articles, degree of author’s collaboration, length of articles, the ranking of authors, etc. As a result, the degree of collaboration in the DESIDOC Journal is 0.74, which clearly indicates the dominance of multiple authors in its contributions.

  • A Scientometric Analysis of Scientific Publications related to COVID-19
           in Library and Information Science Research

      Abstract: Purpose: As part of social sciences, Library and Information Science (LIS) has experienced development in COVID-19 discussions through the academic lens. The increasing number of research related to COVID-19 across subject areas is a response by researchers to overcome this crisis, including research in the LIS field. This research aims to describe the characteristics and trends of the keywords. It also aims to describe the most productive journals, institutions, and countries related to COVID-19 in LIS research.Methods: We analysed 250 documents related to “COVID-19” in LIS research area indexed in Scopus during 2020-2022. VOSviewer was used to analyse the thematic trends and hotspot of the literature.Results: Two hundred and fifty articles were found in 77 journals. The analysis showed that the COVID-19 publications have increased in around 30 months. In terms of the journal, Library Philosophy and Practice published articles in a significant number. Meanwhile, the University of South Africa is the most productive institution. The content analysis found 5 themes dealing with academic libraries (n=56), public libraries (=22), library services (n=18), digital libraries (=12), and social media (n=12). LIS is an interdisciplinary field that has been dealing with various research areas such as social science, arts and humanities, and computer sciences.Conclusion: This study provides an overview of trends based on the most popular keywords. The results provide further information for both LIS researchers and other researchers in other areas. Future research should discuss the trend of combining non-LIS areas

  • An assessment of Networking and Resource Sharing in Federal University
           Libraries in Nigeria

      Abstract: No library today can boast of having it all to satisfy all the vital needs and demands of her clientele without recourse to some forms of collaborative assistance or the other. This study so to speak is an assessment of networking and resource sharing in federal university libraries in Nigeria. The study was guided by four research objectives and questions respectively with a population sample of 86 librarians purposively derived from 43 federal university libraries. The major instrument used for data collection for the study was a 34-item modified Likert scale questionnaire while the data collected were analyzed using frequency and percentile and presented in tables and figures for clarity sake. The outcome of the study showed among other things that most federal university libraries in Nigeria were not participating in Wide Area Networking rather concentrate mostly in local area networking which implies that no federal university library in Nigeria can boast of being fully involved in global networking as to gaining from piles of information available in academic libraries of developed nations. The study further identified some of the factors militating against these services and operations. The study after due consideration of the findings recommended among other steps that all identified challenges as displayed in table 4 and figure 3 should be tackled head-on by all concerned and that the National University Commission (NUC)as universities’ control and monitoring body should partner Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to sponsor and finance the establishment of Nigerian University Libraries consortium that will ensure effective networking and resource sharing among university libraries in Nigeria and those of developed nations.
