Abstract: Angelica Arace, Donatella Scarzello, Paola Zonca, Protima Agostini Research on the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on families and children have focused on the period of the lockdown, highlighting important maladaptive consequences, while there are fewer data in the later stages, as analyzed instead in the our study through an on-line questionnaire completed by 945 parents of preschool children. Data analysis highlights an increase in emotional and behavioral problems of children during the lockdown, and a decrease in the following months, but with consistent aftermath of symptoms, which remain higher than in the non-emergency phase, with differences based on gender and age of the chil-dren, family climate and parenting emotional experiences. It is therefore essential to take action to reduce risk factors by taking charge of the vulnerabilities of the family system and promot-ing resilience strategies. Abstract: Monica Pelosi, Silvia Montuori, Maria Assunta Zanetti This research focused on emotional expression in children during lockdown due to the spread of COVID-19. A particular case is represented by gifted people, who often show a higher and more intese emotional arousal and sensitivity. We proposed a questionnaire built ad hoc and filled in by 126 mothers who answered referring to each of their children (N = 225), both gifted and tyical development. First phase of analyses took account of a group of children who belong to family where there is at least one gifted child (N = 162) and a group of children with typical development (N = 63). Analyses did not reveal any significant dif-ferences between these two groups, both in the expression of emotions and states of mind. However, further analyses which compare gifted children (N = 100) to children with typi-cal development (N = 125) without considering the belonging family, showed how gifted children seem to experience higher level of apathy (p < .001) and impatience (p = .016) if compared to normotipic peers. Abstract: Maria Giuseppina Bartolo, Anna Lisa Palermiti, Rocco Servidio, Flaviana Tenuta, Francesco Craig, Angela Costabile The COVID-19 pandemic poses a threat to the adolescents’ mental health and psychologi-cal well-being because of the impact of social distancing measures. The study aimed to ana-lyze the levels of fear of COVID-19, stress, anxiety, and depression symptoms as well as the impact of depression on psychological well-being during the first Italian national lock-down among a sample of Italian adolescents. An anonymous online questionnaire was administered to a sample of 345 adolescents (aged 15-19 years). The results confirm that fear of COVID-19 was positively associated with stress and anxiety symptoms. Anxiety mediated the relationship between depression and stress. Abstract: Giulia Savarese, Daniela D’Elia, Nadia Pecoraro, Lugi Curcio, Oreste Fasano, Monica Mollo The literature has highlighted psychological disorders during the Covid-19 lockdown. A research was conducted with 49 students who contacted the Psychological Counseling Center of the University of Salerno between March and May 2020. The objectives were: a) to investigate the psychological disorders and in particular of PTSD; b) evaluate the effec-tiveness of a short course with online EMDR protocol for those students with PTSD linked to the reactivation of previous trauma following pandemic stress and lockdown. The data collected in the pre and post treatment phase (with psychological interview and the SCL-90-R Scale scoring) show: PTSD (25%), anxiety and stress (100%), depression (88%). In post-EMDR treatment, a reduction in cut-offs from clinical to regulatory range was highlighted on the IES-R Scale and at SCL-90-R scale a shift from clinically significant scores on the syndromic scale to normative scores. In particular, on the SCL-90-R Scale, the score on the Global Severity Index-GSI, a global indicator of the current intensitu of psychic distress perceived by the subject, confirms, in the post-test, the achievement of a regulatory clinical framework. Abstract: Lorenza Di Pentima, Alessandro Toni, Grazia Attili Aim of the present study was to explore the impact of witnessed domestic violence by mi-nors in terms of mental health outcomes, attachment bonds and locus of control. The partic-ipants were victims (n = 30) of witnessed violence in the family (average age: 11.58 years, DS = 2.01) compared with a control group (n = 60; average age: 11.03 years, DS = 1.96). The hypotheses verified were the following: 1) victims of witnessed violence in comparison with control group have more frequently an insecure attachment, assessed by the Separation Anxiety Test (Attili, 2001); 2) victims of witnessed violence reveal a more severe psychopathological structure, assessed by the Psychiatric Scales of Self-Administration for Children and Adolescents (Cianchetti & Sannio Fancello, 2001); 3) victims of witnessed vio-lence have a more external locus of control, assessed by the Nowicki-Strickland Scale (1973). The results show that children, witnesses of violence in the family, compared to the control group, are more insecure; in particular, they are avoidant and ambivalent. They show a symp-tomatic structure that includes the dimensions of Anxiety, Depression, Eating Disorders and Somatization.
