Authors:Hideki Takei Abstract: For the past few years, the European Union (EU) has urged higher education institutions to improve the overall quality of cooperative education (co-op) programs with businesses for growth and jobs in the knowledge and skill-intensive business environment. Improvement of co-ops has been one of the strategic priorities of the Europe 2020 strategies, which aim to continuously improve the competitive advantages of industries. Many EU members have tried to improve their co-ops. In this paper, we describe co-ops in Germany, the UK, Italy, and Finland to find the characteristics of the co-ops. Then, we will compare the co-ops to see the differences among them. PubDate: Sat, 24 Jun 2023 04:04:39 -070
Authors:Charlene S. Silangan; Rashidah M. Mocsir, Ruth M. Regner, Emerson D. Peteros Abstract: This research aimed to determine the predictors of academic performance in mathematics of Grade 10 students using descriptive correlational design. The respondents were 435 Grade 10 students from the three identified public high schools in Lapu-Lapu City and Liloan, Cebu, Philippines. A survey questionnaire was used to describe student-related factors, teacher-related factors, and environment-related factors while the First Quarter Grades were used to measure students’ academic performance in mathematics. Data gathered were treated statistically using frequency count, percentage, weighted mean, and multiple regression. The results showed that most of the respondents were 14 to 15 years old and were female; most of the parents were high school graduates and had a combined family monthly income of 10,000 pesos and below. The respondents had satisfactory performance. Also, teaching skills and instructional materials used by the teacher are significant predictors of academic performance in mathematics. However, the students’ interest, study habits, teacher’s personality, school environment and home environment of the students were not significant predictors of the mathematics performance of the students. It was concluded that the teacher-related factors as to teaching skills and instructional materials used can predict the academic performance of the students. The researchers recommended that the proposed intervention plan could be utilized and monitored. PubDate: Mon, 05 Jun 2023 00:00:00 -070
Authors:Mary Ophelia Amporful Abstract: Learning Management System (LMS) has been an effective medium for most schools, colleges and universities to engage students and disseminate instructional materials during this coronavirus pandemic. Notwithstanding, students who have experienced the LMS platform in their learning express concerns which appear to outweigh the positives of the system. Hence, this study was conducted to explore the challenges students face in the use of the LMS in the faculty of Business Studies at the Takoradi Technical University. Cross-sectional survey design was employed with a sample size of 200 business studies. Questionnaire was used for the data collection and both descriptive and inferential statistics were employed in analyzing the data. The study found that students were not trained and equipped with the requisite knowledge and skills to use the LMS before its introduction. In addition, there were no technical and student support system to guide the students to learn through the LMS. Also, high cost of internet data, slow internet and Wi-Fi connectivity in the University were some of internet challenges which has resulted in student being demotivated and sees the LMS as not effective system for learning in the university. It is recommended that the university management to organize a training to equip the students with the needed knowledge, skills and understanding to effectively use the LMS. Also, the university management should partner with the telecommunication networks such as MTN, Vodaphone etc. to provide affordable data for students to access the LMS PubDate: Tue, 11 Apr 2023 19:52:33 -070
