           Mathematics Learners

    • Authors: Jerry B Tolentino
      Pages: 27 - 44
Abstract: ABSTRACT: Classroom management is considered as one of the most important aspects of teaching and a serious concern for teachers. Indigenous and non-indigenous students learn in different manner and need to manage differently. This diversity in learning styles calls for a variety of approaches to classroom management. This study is anchored with the seven primary classroom management approaches: Assertive, Business-Academic, Behavioral-Modification, Group Managerial, Group Guidance, Acceptance, and Success. This is a descriptive correlational research. There were five of R. Likert (1932)-scale questions that correspond in each approach needed to be rated by the freshmen students in State University, who are enrolled in their Mathematics class. H. Cramer (1946) of V was used to determine the association of the most preferred classroom management preferences among indigenous and non-indigenous Mathematics learner. The most preferred Classroom Management Approach of indigenous student is the Business-Academic approach, while the non-indigenous student is the Success approach. The results will help create a positive classroom climate for effective teaching and learning process for better understating in Mathematics appropriate to the indigenous and non-indigenous learners in Mathematics.KEY WORDS: Indigenous Student; Non-Indigenous Student; Mathematics Learners; Classroom Management Approaches. • Realibility and Validity of Learning Autonomy for the First Middle School
           Student Based on Demography

    • Authors: Sunandie Eko Ginanjar
      Pages: 45 - 56
Abstract: ABSTRACT: Autonomy, as a psychological condition, can develop well if given the opportunity to develop through training carried out continuously and done early, for example training tasks without assistance and adapted to individual abilities. The approach in this research is quantitative with a cross-sectional survey method. A cross-sectional survey was conducted to determine students' learning autonomy with the demographic factors that were present in the participants. So, this study specifically describes the reliability and validity calculation of learning autonomy instruments. Validity and reliability are the most important things in compiling research instruments, because they can show that an instrument is in accordance with the construct that will be revealed and has a certain degree of measurement results. The method used in reliability testing and validity is G. Rasch (1980)’s model. Respondents in this study were public and private Junior High School students, public and private MTs (Madrasah Tsanawiyah or Islamic Junior High School), and Junior Boarding Schools in Bandung Regency, West Java, Indonesia. The findings show that reliability test results for the learning autonomy instrument address the reliability coefficient of 0.86, which means it has good reliability. Of the 35 items tested for validity, there is 1 (one) item not invalid, so it was decided to be removed. Items that are valid and can be used in research are 35 items.KEY WORDS: Learning Autonomy; Demography; Reliability and Validity Calculation.About the Author: Sunandie Eko Ginanjar, S.Pd. is a Student of Educational Psychology at the School of Postgraduate UPI (Indonesia University of Education), Jalan Dr. Setiabudhi No.229 Bandung 40154, West Java, Indonesia. • Awareness of Historical Development of Counselling and its Relevance among
Nigerian Youth: Implications for Professional Counsellors

    • Authors: Aminat Adeola Odebode
      Pages: 57 - 66
Abstract: ABSTRACT: The relevance of counselling, as a helping profession, cannot hold without tracing it historical development, particularly among individuals whom the service is targeted. Hence, this study centered on revealing the perception of youth on the historical development and relevance of counselling in Nigeria. This article is a qualitative study with 20 youth, who were randomly sampled as the participants from Lagos State, Oyo State, Osun State, and Ekiti State in Nigeria. An interview guide was structured to collect information from the participants. The guide was validated by experts and pilot tested. The thematic analysis was used to tease out the main themes of the information gathered. The findings revealed that youth are aware of guidance and counselling, but they are not aware of the historical development. The participants are not aware of the relevance of counselling service in the Nigerian society. They believed that the services are meant for children and adolescents, especially those who have “problems” and those who are yet to have bearing in life. The participants are not aware that guidance and counselling is meant for all, old, young, male, and female. They are also not aware that the services also cover vocational, personal-social, marital among other areas. From this finding, professional counsellors should embark on mass publicity about the historical development of counselling and its relevance to human and societal development.KEY WORDS: Historical Development; Relevance; Nigerian Youth; Guidance and Counselling.
