  • ACQUISITION OF ARABIC AS A SECOND LANGUAGE IN EARLY CHILDREN IN ISLAMIC
           KINDERGARTEN

    • Authors: Abdul Aziz, Siti Khoirun Niswah, Faisal Mahmuoud Adam Ibrahim
      Pages: 157 - 168
Abstract: It is believed that memorizing the Qur’an would be able to improve the acquisition of a second language, especially Arabic language, particularly for early childhood. This is because children have quite sharp hearing, so they quickly acquire Arabic language as their second language. The language acquisition is done by listening and kinesthetic methods. For this purpose, the study aims to describe the process of acquiring Arabic in early childhood at Daarut Tahfidz lil Athfal Malang. Researchers applied descriptive qualitative research and case study methods. Data obtained by observation and interviews. The results showed that learning activities to memorize the Qur’an can accelerate language acquisition in early childhood who previously had not been able to pronounce sentences perfectly. At the opening and closing of the lesson, the teacher in the class always reminds the mufradât (vocabulary) that has been delivered, so that it will strengthen their memory in Arabic language. The research is expected to provide an overview of the importance of providing Arabic language learning from an early age in order to strengthen Islamic teachings from an early age.

    • Authors: Siti Muflichah, Ridha Darmawaty, Puji Sri Rahayu
      Pages: 169 - 188
Abstract: This paper discusses the difficulties of Arabic department students when dealing with Tarkîb al-Marfû’ât subject and the using of Zoom/forced technology due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Using the qualitative approach, this paper aimed to explore whether students were negatively impacted by switch of learning mode to online. Interviews were conducted to nine students who live in remote areas, and it revealed that those students experienced delay in learning the subject due to their lack of the internet availability. Teaching activities were not optimal due to signal interference so that the exposure to the relevant material was not comprehensive. Moreover the students also lacked understanding to the subject because of the specific difficulty level of the subject. The students missed additional explanations and material from the lecturer, even equipped examples. This paper contributes to educational policies in the ways Indonesian government addresses distance learning for students in Islamic higher education.

  • THE UTILIZATION OF A NEUROLINGUISTIC APPROACH TO STUDENTS FOR ARABIC
           LANGUAGE LEARNING DEVELOPMENT

    • Authors: Mohammad Jailani, Suyadi Suyadi, Hendro Widodo
      Pages: 209 - 227
Abstract: This study aimed to analyze Arabic language learning with a neurolinguistic approach at SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta. Students have not been able to accept the material presented by the teacher. Students have not responded with their brain intelligence, both in understanding mufradât as well as understanding muhâdatsah. This research used a case study approach, involving the principal, the representative of Ismuba (al-Islam, Kemuhammadiyahan, and Arabic Language) and the Arabic language teacher. Data were collected by observation and in-depth interviews. The results of the study prove that the neurolinguistic approach can understand students in mastering Arabic learning through brain synchronization, both right brain, and left brain. Optimizing Arabic language skills rests on his brain. This neurolinguistic approach can facilitate students in mastering istimâ', kalâm, qirâ'ah, and kitâbah abilities in Arabic learning.

The results of the data analysis show that the phenomenon of code blending is rife in their conversations, something that is clearly visible in the mixing of Arabic with Indonesian. So that, they replace nouns with verbs, plural words with singular words, standard words with non-standard, and use the inflection Arabic for Indonesian and vice versa, so that the form and structure of the two languages are changed. This study also shows that this phenomenon is caused by a lack of mastery of Arabic and Indonesian by speakers, continuous communication in this way between families, because parents pass on Arabic and Indonesian vocabulary to their children and do not pass on their forms and structure of the sentence, or there is always the occurrence language contact in various situations such as schools and workplaces.
