Abstract: In 2016, well-known Sámi artist Máret Anne Sara, from a reindeer herding family, created an art installation called Pile’o Sápmi with two hundred reindeer skulls as a protest against and a symbol of the Norwegian government’s decision of forced slaughter of reindeer to reduce the size of herds in Finnmark, which were considered unsustainable.
