Authors:Susanne Vosmer Abstract: Group Analysis, Ahead of Print. The current political, social and economic landscape in psychotherapy is permeated by neoliberalism and requirements for diversity and equality. Nevertheless, racism occurred in the Institute of Group Analysis (IGA). Using Institutional Ethnography, this study examined whether non-discrimination of clients, students and group analysts is nowadays a lived actuality. Unfortunately, a disjuncture between claims of non-discrimination and lived experiences was identified. Unconscious prejudices, hidden discrimination and neoliberalist affiliations perpetuate white discriminatory practices. Marginalized clients, students and group analysts remain outsiders, even though the PPP Working Group has made some positive changes. I suggested that documents should be revised, contemporary theory be included in diversity seminars and diversity frameworks be researched. Authors:Susanne Vosmer Abstract: Group Analysis, Ahead of Print. My evocative and analytical autoethnography explored the lived experience of diversity during group analytic training and as group analyst. Bakhtin’s dialogism was used to analyse texts. Data analysis has revealed pervasive experiences of racism and discomfort about social class and gender disparity. Religion was not included in my training and achieving feminine autonomy was difficult in group analysis. Linked to patriarchy, colonialism, and perhaps the Holocaust, my analysis suggests that we need to rethink gender and religious certainties. Our morality leaves much to be desired when we do not embrace polyphony, diverse voices. Embracing diversity may also entail discarding the Oedipus Complex. Group analytic training institutes should consider different fee structures so that disadvantaged people can join our elitist circle. Authors:Susanne Vosmer Abstract: Group Analysis, Ahead of Print. Love has been ignored in group analysis for too long. This article describes different forms of love and attachment love styles. Techniques to assess and work with love are introduced. The social unconscious of love and lovesickness must be made conscious to prevent it from becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy. Technologies impact on dating, relationships and love. Groups can help patients address feelings and behaviour arising from these. Love can be curative provided psychotherapists allow loving feelings to emerge in therapy and work with them. Frequently, being in love or unrequited love results in irrational, destructive behaviour, sorrow and disenfranchised grief. Why love can be disappointing is discussed. Since lovesickness may be diagnosed as depression, using the term lovesickness for emotions and behaviour arising from love related difficulties is proposed. This reduces stigma, because lovesickness is normal. Citation: Group Analysis PubDate: 2022-05-03T08:52:04Z DOI: 10.1177/05333164221091946

Authors:Juan Tubert-Oklander Abstract: Group Analysis, Ahead of Print. The author of this article poses three inter-related themes. 1) The primacy of the death instinct that accounts for destructivity in groups and, especially, for anti-Semitism. 2) There is a blind spot in group analysis that conceals the importance of anti-Semitism in its inception and history, which he deems to be largely derived from Foulkes’s idealization of groups and denial of their destructive potential. Hence, anti-Semitism is part of the foundation matrix of group analysis. 3) Group analytical practice, right down to its clinical details, can be understood as a performative realization of the rabbinic Jewish tradition. The present reviewer disagrees with these three points and expounds the reasons for this. However, he welcomes the opportunity it provides to engage in a most needed critical discussion.
