  • Forankringspraksisser i Vestjylland: Børns medierende rolle for
           migrantfamiliers inklusion i lokalsamfund

English abstract Anchor-practices in Western Jutland: Children’s role as mediators in the inclusion of migrant families in local communities This article follows a group of migrant families from Ukraine and Romania that live and work in Western Jutland. The families have been invited to this remote part of Denmark to work in agriculture and smaller production companies. Based on four months of ethnographic fieldwork, this article zooms in on the important role of children in the migrant families and how they create and facilitate opportunities for their parents’ social relations and networks. We identify four anchor-practices as language, daycare and civil institutions, sport clubs, and ‘bonus grandparents’, as examples of how children become vital for the parents’ inclusion and participation in social networks and local communities. In general, we suggest that future studies pay more attention to the role of children in processes of migration and local inclusion.

           plass i barnehagen

    • Authors: Kjartan Belseth
English abstract “A word says more than a thousand drawings” – a study on the place of religion in Norwegian preschools Religion and worldviews as part of Early Childhood Education and Care practices is not heavily researched in Norway, and religion is something not many preschools are focusing on in their everyday pedagogical work. This article seeks to emphasize the area ethics, religion and philosophy from the Norwegian Framework Plan for preschools. The article draws on findings from a quantitative survey among preschool employees researching religions place in the everyday pedagogy. A quantitative approach is used to examine a large extent of different informants’ work with religion and worldviews in preschool. The Framework Plan emphasizes conversation as a starting point for children’s questions and thoughts about religion, and the employees’ knowledge on religion and worldviews will be central in this context. The terms used and questions asked will be analyzed and discussed using postcolonial perspectives and newer research on religion as part of Early Childhood Education and Care practices in a Nordic context.

           pædagogers grænsesøgning i hverdagens samarbejde

    • Authors: Pernille Juhl, Allan Westerling, Karen Ida Dannesboe
English abstract “She’s my child, but it’s their place” – Boundary work in everyday life In this article, we show how the daily collaboration between pedagogues and parents is characterised by increasing institutionalisation of parental responsibility, and that the boundaries between day care institution and family have changed. The analyses in this article are based on empirical data derived from two research projects in Danish day care institutions. Theoretically, we take as our starting point an understanding of the family as social practice connected to other practices, and in an understanding of parenthood as a phenomenon that is shaped and developed in the daily encounters with caregivers elsewhere – e.g., in the day care institution. Analytically, we use the concept of boundary work to focus on what parents and pedagogues do to deal with collaboration between family and day care in everyday encounters, and how the division of labour and responsibilities is negotiated.

English abstract Realization of children’s rights in books nominated for Bokslukerprisen 2021/2022 [The book devourer award 2021/2022] This article is motivated by Michelle Superle’s call for a “child-centered critical approach to children’s literature” (CCA). The key principle of this approach is the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child as the core theoretical document anchoring the CCA. Framed by the CCA and the Convention on the Rights of the Child, the aim of this paper is to map out and examine ten children’s books nominated for the Norwegian book award Bokslukerprisen 2021/2022 to identify the role of the adult in children’s opportunities to exercise their rights as advocated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The study is carried out in three steps. The first step maps out the examples of the UNCRC rights found in the corpus. The second examines the overall role of the adults in children’s agency room to perform their rights, and the third illustrates different adult’s roles when it comes to children’s opportunities in practising their agency and right to not being discriminated because of their language and culture, body, and sexual orientation.

  • Barns lek i modern barndom

English abstract Children’s play in a modern childhood A romanticized ideal of play and childhood appears to be common today. This essay problematizes this romanticized picture of play and argues for a new way of understanding children’s play where the contemporary context and the sociocultural environment are of significant importance.
