- The Deconstruction of the Contagion Movie: The Meta-Virus or
Commercialization of Virus Authors: Hacer AKER Abstract: Contagion, one of the most-watched epidemic films in the Covid-19 period, was released to the market as a wake-up call to the ethical responsibilities of government institutions and international organizations in the face of a possible pandemic. The fact that the aspects of the narrative that touch today's reality were frequently mentioned in the media also provided a meaningful basis for thinking about the film. This study outed from the claim that the mentioned trends are an illusion and aimed to present a critical analysis that reveals the inconsistencies in the movie. He did this with a metonymic approach that undermines ideological metaphors, in other words, with references of the deconstructive reading. When the findings were evaluated as a whole, it seemed possible to consider Contagion as a movie that commercialized and commodified the virus, did not think about its subject and object and lied to its audience. - ASSESMENT OF THE ACTIVITIES FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS BY LOCAL
GOVERNMENTS FROM INNOVATION PERSPECTIVE Authors: Ender Emre KANAAT Abstract: Consumption of natural resources for the purpose of development threatens economic development and human life and creates many global problems such as pollution of the atmosphere, unequal distribution of wealth among economies and destruction of the environment. These problems can only be solved by the joint action of the countries. Therefore, solutions need to be sought and applied locally from a global scale to countries. Sustainability, which is proposed to solve these global problems, introduces a concept that requires a change in the way of thinking without decreasing the quality of life. The essence of change is bringing environmental management, social responsibilities and economic solutions in universal solidarity and leaving being a consumer society. The issue must be handled with a strategic management approach in order to understand and adopt the concept, which is put forward as a “new” perspective, and to change the behavior of the society. Although many academic articles have been written on sustainable development, there are very limited resources assessing the maturity level of the activities in Turkey and investigating the content of the work by local governments. The article interprets the data of Marmara Municipalities Union (MBB) Local Governments Sustainability Studies (2022) within the framework of the "Diffusion of Innovations Theory", which Everett Rogers presented to the literature in 1962. - A Story of Longing for Humane Affection Tinged with Memory
Authors: Zafer ŞAFAK Abstract: Never Let Me Go is the sixth novel by Kazuo Ishiguro published in 2005. The setting of the incidents depicted in the novel is England. Spanning more than two decades; between early 1970s up to the second half of the 1990s, hypothetic dystopian novel narrates the experiences of clones whose lives have been pre-determined, shortened and doomed due to forced organ donation so that human can live healthier and longer. Ishiguro’s narration dwells upon the interplay between the themes of memory, grief, longing for human affection, the discrepancy between technologically supported biomedical advances and ethics all of which have far-reaching implications. While search for meaning and essentiality of human affection stand out to be the humanizing aspect of life, they also contribute to the moral qualities of the novel as well as increasing novel’s significance as a cautionary story. In the vortex of emotional exploitation, social conditioning and individual degradation, clones’ experiences present a testimonial quality. Much of clones’ efforts aim at the affirmation of their existence in obtaining meaning with solidarity and memory. Through the reading of this atypical dystopian narrative, the trajectory of quest for meaning, which cannot be made up for anything else and the vitality of interpersonal affection with its unifying essentiality of memory is followed and tried to be pointed out. - An Assessment On Genres Of Video Blogs
Authors: Tolga Ozan MADEN; Şermin TAĞ KALAFATOĞLU Abstract: ABSTRACTDigitalization affects and transforms areas that are an integral part of daily life such as education, economy, entertainment and communication. It is seen that people in both developed and developing countries, where more and more products and services are provided to users in digital environments, are increasingly benefiting from digitally provided environments. It is stated that blogs, which are different from other popular communication protocols based on the Internet, have a democratizing potential. Blogs, which can be a source for sharing news and creating public opinion, can be created under the umbrella of an institution or organization. Blogs, which can also be put forward within the framework of individual purposes, emerge as one of the new ways to communicate with others, and allow personal expressions such as feelings, thoughts and preferences to be shared with a wider audience. The content of blogs, which can be text-based as well as video content, has a great variety. Studies that evaluate blogs according to these differences in terms of species are functional in terms of examining their contents in detail. This study focuses on the video diaries produced by Turkish vloggers. In the study, in which literature review was used as a method, 18 vlog channels with more than two million subscribers were evaluated according to the vlog types determined by Gercely (2018). It was determined that 8 of them were jokes and comedy, 3 of them were gaming, 2 of them were training/teaching, 1 of them was beauty/fashion/fitness, 1 of them was lifestyle, and 1 of them was product review. - The Impact of the Post-Truth Age on the News Phenomenon
Authors: Savash PORGHAMREZAEİEH Abstract: Although the concepts of truth and fact are often used as synonyms, they are actually different concepts from each other both philosophically and linguistically and have different meanings. Especially philosophically, discussions on the meanings of truth and facts have always been ongoing. Today, truth and reality are undoubtedly the most eroded concepts. The development of mass media and its profound effect on the form of communication change the moral understanding and moral norms of both individuals and societies. With the social/new media channels changing the concept of communication and the reading style of the target audience, the concept of news in a professional sense is also undergoing change and transformation. It has become much more important for the target audience how much a news appeals to their feelings and beliefs, rather than whether it is true or not. The emptying of reality in the Post-Truth era has undoubtedly affected the reality of the news phenomenon. In this article, the relationship between Post-Truth and news phenomenon has been evaluated through literature review. PubDate: Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +030

- The Perception of the East in Hollywood Productions as a Soft Power
Element and Critical Discourse Analysis on Zero Dark Thirty Authors: Mustafa ASLAN; Serhat YETİMOVA Abstract: After the World Trade Centre towers were destroyed by a terrorist attack undertaken by Al-Qaeda on September 11, 2001, America began searching for Osama Bin Laden as the culprit of the attack. This is the process covers a period of approximately 10 years. Zero Dark Thirty (2012) is an interesting film in that it tells how the American intelligence manages this process. The film, which causes interesting debates in Turkey and the world, creates a current version of American hegemony within Hollywood production patterns. This article analyzes the discussion initiated by the film by using the critical discourse analysis method and the analysis kit consisting of power, power, justice, history and other concepts. Considering both the discourse of the film and the debates in the press, as well as the historical and sociological contexts, the only difference of the examined film from its predecessors is that it was shot with a more qualified scenario and more effective technological equipment. According to Americans, the cause of terrorism is jihadist Islamic views. The message that Islam is dignified and holy to the extent that it serves American values and expansionist policies is delicately presented. In essence, the ideological devices of the American state, such as American capitalism, anti-humanist positivism, and individual pragmatism, continue to exist as prominent elements in the visual composition. - New Form of Futurism in Painting: “Augmented Futurism”
Authors: Derya AYDOĞAN Abstract: With the latest developments in digital technology, spaces can be built where the meaning of reality is changed and redesigned with different visions. One of these spaces is called “Augmented Reality (AR)”. This technology, which can already animate flat surfaces via computer systems, attach virtual images in the real space, and add new layers, has also brought a new field of action to the art of painting. It has reconstructed futurism in a broader perspective in painting. After speed and dynamism made their way into every aspect of life at the beginning of the twentieth century as a consequence of mechanization, they became the focus of the art of painting as well, bringing up the movement of futurism into the center of attention. The digital age, on the other hand, subverted the notions of time and space by pushing speed and dynamism beyond the physical limits. Along with augmented reality, the futuristic movement surpassed its physical limitations and began not only to show and evoke dynamism but also to make people experience it. At the point of conjunction where the art of painting meets the technology of AR, motion doesn’t limit itself to image movement but rather, occurs in-between spaces where it is exhibited. In fact, the combination of interaction and interactivity results in a art game where the viewer moves as well. In addition, there has been a journey towards new interdisciplinary contexts with other fields of art and multimedia specific to AR. As a new reality technology, AR plays a role when it comes to the adaptation of futuristic aspects in painting to the present and the future in many respects. As a descriptive quality analysis; this study will provide a general view on futurism in the art of painting, explain the AR technology, describe the use of AR in painting with examples, and discuss its place within the context of futurism. - Kitsch And Current Artist Practices
Authors: Doç. Mahpeyker YÖNSEL; Hüsnü DOKAK Abstract: Daily life is directly related to mass production and mass consumption. We are faced with the fact that the ordinary is now an indispensable economic term as a result of the disposable or non-long-lasting objects taking place in our daily lives. The Industrial Revolution, which started in the middle of the 19th century, started the migration from the rural areas to the cities, and with the desire of the villagers who settled in the urban slums to look urban, they preferred to buy imitation items made of cheaper and simpler materials instead of buying expensive daily use items, and prepared a serious ground for the formation of kitsch. . As today's consumption-based economic system continues this economic system of the 19th century at full speed, the production of imitation products has inevitably continued. The important thing for the producer is not form/form, but functionality. This simple logic of the consumer society also forms the basis of art and causes the content/narrative to be one step ahead of the form. Being aware of the fact that artistic pleasure is fed by simple and ordinary events, today's art now sees kitsch as one of the main dynamics of art. This study, which was carried out with the qualitative research method, was carried out by making use of books, journals and internet resources related to the subject. With the descriptive analysis method, the kitsch works of contemporary artists were analyzed and the result was reached. PubDate: Sat, 31 Dec 2022 00:00:00 +030
- In The Context of Space And Life Fiction Artificial Life Art
Authors: Engin GÜNEY; Hasret YAVUZ Abstract: Man is the only being who shapes his life with his reactions/preferences against stimuli and motivations outside himself and says "more". It can be said that the orientation in today's culture, which can be explained by the unity of attitude and behavior, is digitalization-oriented. Artificial life in digital culture includes software and hardware-based life forms in virtual media, studies based on creating new life forms in the laboratory with biochemical materials, mechatronics and holographic artificial lives. Biological principles are modeled with complex algorithms and a new relationship is formed between real and artificial. Artificial life, which is similar to the changes in nature and living systems in terms of the methods it contains, brings new approaches in the art production process. In artistic productions, artificial life is presented in three different formats. These can be listed as robotic lives in real space, virtual lives in real space, and virtual lives in virtual space. These productions act according to the designed algorithm or as a result of interaction with the environment and complete their evolutionary development. In artificial life projects, complex systems in nature are simplified and studies on the basic features of life are continued. The main purpose of the research is to examine the art of artificial life created in different combinations in the context of life and living space. This research is important in terms of analyzing artificial life-based approaches that are intertwined with art today, understanding the expansions it offers to art, and making comments on the future of art. - REVIEW TO THE CONCEPT OF CONSCIOUSNESS FROM SIMULATION OF REAL VIRTUALITY:
“UPLOAD” SERIES Authors: Pınar BASMACI Abstract: Unlike virtual reality, which is a three-dimensional world where reality is reproduced, in Castells' real virtuality, the difference between real and simulated reality has disappeared. In this world where everything is symbolic, the virtuality of the representative environment has replaced the real. In other words, the imitation replaces the real, which is also simulation. For the simulation based on the representation of reality, Baudrillard says that the world is a simulation and the boundaries of truth and simulation are blurred. In this environment where reality and its representations are mixed, consciousness stands as an important concept. Consciousness, which is the state of being aware of the mind, is independent of the body and can exist even in the absence of the body. In this context, the subject of this study, in which the Upload series is discussed, is the concept of consciousness in the context of real virtuality and simulation. The problem of the study is whether the world in the series corresponds to the concept of virtual reality or real virtuality and how consciousness is positioned in the simulation world. The study aims to reveal whether the consciousness has lost its meaning and whether the consciousness is free from the body in this world where reality has lost its meaning and virtuality is dominant. In the study, in which the discourse analysis method was used, all parts of the series were examined. In the study, it has been concluded that the world revealed in the series corresponds to real virtuality, not virtual reality and that although everything is a simulation, consciousness can be real, the consciousness that can exist forever cannot be simulated, and that it can preserve its existence even in all virtuality.
