- Recep İvedik, Local and Authentic: The Public Language of Lumpen
Authors: Hacer AKER Abstract: The fact that the Recep İvedik film series is characterized by ever-increasing viewership rates with each successive film is significant in terms of the provizyon it finds in Turkish society. İvedik challenges as depicted the traditional normsa about the human body in his films; he creates a line of escape by breaking all the moulds constructed intended the body. He deterritorializes and nomadics the codes of beauty offered by the major. The context in question is an important phenomenon that we can observe in many typologies of the period, as revealed in the article titled The Emergence of the Chubby (2012). On the other hand, İvedik uses the theme of “a folk hero” used for the characterization of “Şaban” but he is different from Şaban. İvedik has no secret scenario. He doesn’t move forward with tactics either. He develops a strategy, presents his screenplay to the public, and conducts street politics mostly through “voice rapes”. The creator of the character says that he focuses on the “animal” inside the human. “I am that animal in everyone,” he says. With the character he creates with grotesque elements, İvedik discredits every situation its handles and loses its shape and nobility. The representations of Recep İvedik’s films have been important indicators about the ideas, beliefs, and values of today’s Turkey. In today’s world, where concerns about identity and culture are increasing, the emphasis on cultural identity and traditionalism is at the forefront in Recep İvedik’s films. İvedik seems to want to shake and displace the major by creating a lumpen public language over the local one. Within this context, present day Turkey and the daily resistant practices of the poor and the subaltern in Turkish comedy cinema are aimed to understood by subjecting selected films to metaphorical and metonymical reading under the title of “Recep İvedik, Local and Authentic: The Public Language of Lumpen”. - The Use of Video Technique in Reproduction Based on Quotation in
Contemporary Art Authors: Ayşe GÜNGÖR Dİ SAVİNO Abstract: In the postmodern period, many innovations have emerged in the field of art, and artists have produced works that are beyond the accepted standards. It is seen that quoting, which is a reproduction technique, has become one of these methods. They manipulate historical works made in traditional style using the tools of the age they live in. As technological tools became widespread after the 1960s, it was observed that artists turned to such tools. The emergence of video, especially towards the end of the 1960s, radically changed the progress of art. Shocking works are created beyond two-dimensional surfaces. It is observed that video works, consisting of moving images, sound and the concept of time, have become one of the methods preferred by artists as a means of reproduction. This multimedia understanding and realization paradigm, which requires the analysis of the relationship between aesthetic experience and technology, causes the hybridization of forms. The aim of this study is to quote from works of art produced by traditional methods and reproduce them through video, which is the subject of this research. By selecting works that appear to be a symbolic synthesis of the works of Bill Viola, Ulrike Rosenbach, and Özlem Şimşek, who produce with video, the use of video technique was evaluated in the works, which were cited through the observation and interpretation method of qualitative research methods. Since the video technique has become a vital form of contemporary art, it can be said that artists emphasize sensory perception as a way of knowing themselves. Their aim is to convey the emotions and experiences they feel to the audience rather than presenting a mere appearance in their works. Rather than reducing their works to traditional aesthetic categories, it aims to present an examination of the concept of the work and the state of the image, turning to new phenomena. In this sense, it is seen that the artists whose works are examined also work in the experimental field by putting video at the center of their works. Because video opens a heterogeneous field of research for artists. Contemporary artists, who develop a new language with video technique, offer new encounters to today's audience by initiating a dialogue with traditional art in this way.
