- Konverze k islámu a formování identity českých

Abstract: The present study aims to bring the reader closer to the process of religious conversion to Islam, following the example of several Czech women who have decided to embrace Islam as their faith. Based on long-term field research and obtaining qualitative data through participatory observation, individual and group interviews, the study presents how Muslim practices are integrated into the daily life of Czech converts and how their new identity is constructed. Ali Köse’s study Conversion to Islam: A Study of Native British Converts (1999) is used in explaining the data obtained. First, the author deals with a case study of the convert Monika, whose example shows the importance of the social context of conversion. The following chapters deal with the gradual process of accepting a new faith and the way in which the identity of Czech Muslim women is shaped by new practices and influenced by the presence of other Muslims and Czech society. The study concludes with the issue of Christmas and the approach of Czech converts to their celebration.

Abstract: The study presents the results of research carried out as part of my master’s thesis, which I defended in May 2021. The text is divided into three thematic areas: veiling, the position of women in marriage, and polygamy. I map the attitude of individual media towards Muslim women at the beginning of the migration crisis and in the present. I monitor to which extent the media spreads images about stereotypes, misinformation, or valid information among respondents and how the respondents are affected by them. The migration crisis sparked a wave of information that flooded people every day. Muslim women were increasingly portrayed in the media, emphasizing their way of dressing, their attitude towards men, and their position in society. In Slovakia during the election period, some political parties even built their election campaign on this picture. The research results represent a summary of discursive and content analysis of selected media contributions from 2015 to 2020 and field research conducted in the academic year 2020/2021.

Abstract: This study is devoted to the special features of the ethnographic research of German speaking lumberjacks – “huncokars” – which took place from the 1920s to the 1940s and was conducted by researchers working in German and Sudeten German ethnographic organizations. At that time, the lay and expert publics were increasingly interested in the living conditions, customs and traditions, and culture of the German population that lived beyond the borders of the Weimar Republic and later the Third Reich. The Huncokars were particularly interesting for researchers because of the fact that they lived apart from the majority (Slovak) population in mountainous regions of western Slovakia. They were an endogamous and ethnically closed community. The main goal of this study is to identify and analyze the most frequent topics of German and Sudeten German research related to the Huncokar population.
