  • How family firms are enhancing employee behaviour, motivation,
           satisfaction and turnover intentions

Authors: H.S. Hota, Dinesh K. Sharma, Nilesh Verma
      Pages: 1 - 12
Abstract: This study aims to analyse the impact of motivation on job satisfaction, turnover intentions, and employee behaviour across family firms in Lebanon. From a convenient sample of 336 participants out from 135 family businesses in Lebanon, our findings showed that motivation is positively correlated with job satisfaction, turnover intentions, and employee behaviour in Lebanese family business firms. When subordinates are motivated, they tend to work harder, show commitment, achieve brilliant results, and act ethically toward their leader and organisation. This study aims to highlight the lack of motivation in the workplace due to several factors. Our findings may well encourage Lebanese companies and government regulators to implement motivational techniques and practices to enhance human capital and family business firms' performance, which are pillars of every regional economy.

  • A resource-based view of social entrepreneurship: how the human capital
influences the job creation in the Lebanese market

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

      Authors: Diala Kozaily, Nehme Azoury
      Pages: 13 - 34
Abstract: Social entrepreneurship is a hybrid model - a double mission implementation which is easily perceived separately but less simple when combined together. The entrepreneurship resource-based view introduces the resource-based theory into the entrepreneurship topic and discipline. Since the entrepreneurship and social entrepreneurship are closely comparable, in this study, the entrepreneurship resource-based view is introduced to the social entrepreneurship topic. In particular, the human resources, one out of two other resources or capitals - are part of the social entrepreneur personal development. The social entrepreneur capacities could influence the flourishing of the social enterprise, in consequence the job opportunities created in the market. The methodology is designed on a sample of 38-Lebanese social enterprises to find support for our null or alternative hypothesis for each independent variable we are studying. In details, we find that human capital could influence social entrepreneurship capacity of job creation. On one hand, the education level of the social entrepreneur does not have a significant influence on the expectations of the social entrepreneur to create jobs. On the other hand, the professional experience of the social entrepreneur prior to its social enterprise creation affects the social enterprise job creation expectations.

  • The impact of emotional intelligence on employees' performance and
           productivity

Authors: Roy Matta, Rosette El Alam
      Pages: 35 - 57
Abstract: The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and employees' performance, especially that organisations are still evolving continuously even under the current dynamic and challengeable environment facing the world; the employees' needs are also changing rapidly and getting more complicated. Moreover, having an urgent need to adopt emotional intelligence in the workplace, and having recognised that the concept of leadership has been only applied in some companies, while others still lack in implementing emotional intelligence effectively preventing the employees to be fully motivated, productive and committed to their job. Data were collected using a mix-method research design involving qualitative and quantitative methods through interviewing the managers of five construction companies, also through launching a survey that was filled out by the employees. The results have indicated that emotional intelligence should be considered as a crucial factor in the determination of employees' performance and productivity.

Abstract: Proving the quality of a food product is challenging for any country. Every country recommends using products whose quality has been assured. A similar thing applies to the wine industry. To promote their products, wine industries acquire quality certifications through expert assessments. It is an expensive and time-consuming process. This paper explores the usage of machine algorithms like principle component analysis (PCA), linear discriminant analysis (LDA), random forest (RF), Gaussian naive Bayes (GNB), decision trees (DT), K-nearest neighbour (KNN), logistic regression (LR), and gradient boost (GB) for classifying the wine data into three main categories. The experimental work provides a comparative study of the accuracy of all classifiers is discussed in detail.

  • How business ethics reshape family firms?

    • Free pre-print version: Loading...

Authors: Jean-François Verdie, Hajer Jarrar, Randa Fares
      Pages: 74 - 89
Abstract: Most pieces of literature indicate that family businesses are not as socially responsible as non-family firms are. This is prevalent in the existing literature review around family involvement on a business's CSR. This study aims to describe a critical review and shed the light about business ethics and organisational culture in family and non-family firms. By introducing the role-modelling, ethics through the reward and punishment systems, this study describe candid communication, organisational culture and morality. However, religious practices and organisational values such as integrity, respect and empathy are introduced. Finally, this study concludes by summing-up this review in link with the corporate social responsibility and ethics in family and non-family businesses.
