Authors:Zhaozhen AN Pages: 1 - 9 Abstract: Green international trade is more and more important part of the global economic relations in recent thirty years, since the term green economy was first coined in 1989 in a seminal report for the UK government by a group of leading environmental economists. United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) launched the Green Economy Initiative in October 2008 providing analytical and policy support for investments in green sectors and greening of resource sectors. As a major proponent of the green economy, UK’s experiences in green trade transition and policy undoubtedly will provide useful references for the development of green economy and trade in other countries. As one of the responsible global advanced economies. The UK is not only an active advocate of green economy and green trade, but also an active promoter of green economy and green trade s. leading by example to drastically reduce carbon emissions, the UK’s carbon emissions fell by more than 40% between 1990 and 2018, earning the UK a world-leading reputation for reducing emissions. The UK not only actively promotes the negotiation of the Environmental Goods Agreement and formulates stricter environmental standards and regulations to raise environmental awareness in various countries, but also actively develops green technologies and exports them to the world to help accelerate the global green transition, and actively utilizes independent trade policies to help support environmental action overseas. As the fundamental driving force of an increasingly integrated global economy, green trade is an important area for the sustainable development of the world economy and will undoubtedly play a key role in any country’s transition to a green economy. Authors:Jibril Imam Mohammed-Kabir, Yusuf Danladi Mohammed Pages: 10 - 16 Abstract: Theatre is seen as all-encompassing because it delves into every aspect of life as the case may be. On the other hand, Islamic studies deals also, with every aspect of life because it is religious based. To an extent, most Islamic scholars agreed that it a total way of life. But as agreeing as it seems with both disciplines, there exist disparities and misconceptions about theatre and drama by those with religious bigotry. They have misconstrued the discipline of theatre as misleading and misguiding. There is no denying the fact that some persons in any area of study may try to misbehave sometimes, but that may not be concluded as everybody in the particular field of study is wayward. This menace has contributed in painting the theatre discipline black, thus affecting the practice. It is against this backdrop that the study aims at constructing the bridge of understanding between both disciplines, engaging interdisciplinary paradigm. Hence, in order to achieve this, the study adopts the survey approach of quantitative research methodology to investigate how some Muslims have misconstrued theatre and the possible mediation into the challenge. The findings of the study reveal that people, especially Muslims misunderstood theatre because the character and behaviour most people in the discipline portray. The paper thus, concludes that there is need for theatre artists to re-mould the mode of dressing and general behaviour for societal acceptance. Hence, the study recommends that, Islam and Muslims have a very important role in this reconstruction bid between theatre and Islamic studies. Authors:Taofeek Oluwayomi Gidado, Wemimo Mercy Okunola, Temitope Abeeb Yusuf Pages: 17 - 29 Abstract: Sexual harassment has become a synonym for describing Obafemi Awolowo University in light of frequent occurrence of the problem in most recent time. This study investigated the causes of sexual harassment and the demography of harassers and their victims. The study went further to investigate the attitude of respondents (female undergraduate students) to efforts put in place by the university authority to rein in on sexual harassers. The study employed a quantitative research method and the instrument for data collection was a structured questionnaire. The study identified multiple factors that facilitate sexual harassment. Female students in their final year are most prone to sexual harassment. Female students who lust for undeserving marks constitute another category most vulnerable to sexual harassment. Indecent dressing among female students was identified as a factor that exposes them to sexual harassment. In spite of zero tolerance of the university management to sexual harassment, respondents did not have confidence in measures put in place by the authorities to rein on sexual harassment. Respondents argued that sexual harassment is underreported for sundry reasons relating to policy, procedures, institutional measures and stereotypes. They suggest that extant policies orchestrated at containing sexual harassment are not inclusive of stakeholders in the university; and that the approach of the university to address the problem seems more impulsive than preventive. Conclusively, there is no consensus on the definition of the problem or how best to respond to it. PubDate: 2022-09-26 DOI: 10.3968/12682 Issue No:Vol. 18, No. 3 (2022)
Authors:farida Bouattoura Pages: 30 - 35 Abstract: This paper examines language contribution to inequality through the lens of African American Female Students' Self-efficacy and Math Anxiety. Studies have defined Self-efficacy as one's perceived ability and capability, and that it builds on the language and culture around students. Research stated that low levels of math literacy and self-efficacy beliefs are related to gender, school type, class, mathematics degree, parents' educational status, and economic status. The result is a twofold dilemma for African American females, since through race, they face higher chances of math anxiety and an elevated probability of lingering effects throughout their academic experience because of gender. The article further suggests that educational systems need to incorporate self-efficacy as the theoretical framework for curriculum and standard structure. The article concludes that recommended use of self-efficacy as a theoretical framework is necessary to analyze everyday unintentional language oppression, and its manifestation through disciplinary literacy such as mathematics. Authors:Yanping DENG Pages: 36 - 43 Abstract: Allographs of Chinese characters from various state during the Warring States period can be spotted from the handwritten bamboo and silk manuscripts of Chu State unearthed over the past century. The changes in the shape and structure of characters were closely related to the scribes, who played an important role in the development and evolution of Chinese characters. One of the key features of characters written by scribes at that time was the additional decorative strokes that were not related to the tone, meaning, or distinctive trait of the characters. In the present study, common decorative strokes are categorized into three types: horizontal, vertical, and other strokes, and systematically examined for a better understanding of the evolution of Chinese characters. Authors:Zhiyu CHANG, Lijun LI Pages: 44 - 48 Abstract: Reference News is the only newspaper on the Chinese mainland that has the legal authority to publish foreign news directly, giving a transediting version of the latest news and comments around the world. Transediting, as a distinct type of translation, must not only faithfully convey the original content but also adapt the original structure in light of the international situation, to fulfill the needs of multiple parties. According to narrative theory, translation is re-narrative, and the original text’s frame of time and space must be reconstructed, which coincides with the method required for transediting. In this paper, the author takes advantage of the narrative theory to analyze the transediting news of the Russia-Ukraine conflict in Reference News, conducting the transediting practice effectively. Authors:Chunli YU Pages: 63 - 70 Abstract: As a kind of social practice, translation is greatly influenced by various social elements. Habitus is one of the key elements to analyze a translator’s translation activities, which could be reflected through one’s preference on works in the source language, translation principles, and selection of translation strategies. This study investigated translator Cyril Birch’s habitus based on Pierre Bourdieu theory of social practice and Daniel Simeoni’ s concept on translator’s habitus by analyzing one of his representative translated works--Mistress and Maid (Jiaohongji). The methods employed by this study involve case study, literature analysis, and textual analysis. The findings revealed that Cyril Birch owns a relatively fixed habitus on translating Chinese operas. The habitus of Cyril Birch was based on his ardent love of Chinese literature works, great familiarization and accumulation of Chinese culture. His translation principles were embodied in his pursuit of rhythm equivalence, preference on using annotations to interpret allusions, metaphors etc. This study could deepen the understanding of socio-translatology in the field of translation studies and help explain the translation activities in both macro and micro facets. Additionally, by analyzing this successful translator, the study will offer some references for the improvement of translators’ professional qualities. Authors:Adekeye Adeshola Joseph Pages: 71 - 78 Abstract: This study examines the implementation of the school feeding programme in Nigeria with a view to determining the extent to which the goals of the programme are met and to identify the challenges confronting its effective implementation. The major objective of the paper is to explore the impacts of the programme with respect to increased school enrolment, retention, attendance and learning /performance of pupil Methodologically, a qualitative design was adopted in obtaining materials from secondary sources which include the bulletins of Federal Ministry of Education, journals, policy documents, reports, Newspapers and Magazines. The documents obtained were analyzed using content analysis. The findings of the paper revealed that school enrolment among pupils in primary schools are relatively high as a result of implementation of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP).It was however discovered that the implementation of HGSFP has not significantly improved the retention and learning among pupils in primary schools. The challenges confronting the effective implementation of the programme include; high pupils-teacher’s ratio, poor learning environment; insufficient funding; low morale among teachers; corruption; and lack of effective monitoring and evaluation. The paper concludes that there is still high rate of out of school children in Nigeria despite the implementation of HGSFP because the conditions for teaching and learning have largely remained unsatisfactory. The study recommends the recruitment of more primary school teachers to cope with the rate of enrolment by school pupils; provision of adequate infrastructure in schools including teaching aids in order to make teaching and learning pleasurable; adequate funding of the NHSFP by both the federal and state government; improved welfare for teachers to boost their morale; increased transparency in the disbursement and utilization of funds meant for implementation of NHGSFP and effective monitoring and evaluation at all stages of implementation of the NHGSFP.
