Investigation of Teachers' Views on the Environmental Education and
Sustainable Consciousness

  Abstract: Environmental education and sustainability consciousness for future generations are indispensable and significant as environmental pollution has been causing many problems and destroying the world. In order to raise environmentally friendly and sustainable conscious students, teachers are expected to hold perspectives for environmental supporters and sustainable conscious people. The purpose of this study was to explore a group of teachers’ perspectives on environmental education and sustainability consciousness. They also emphasized that there existed issues in Environmental Education (EE) such as mentality of the students, superficial perspectives, poor school settings regarding environmental setup, no practice, lack of EE content in the curriculum, insufficient equipment, and budget issues. They defined environment and sustainable consciousness as “being conscious, environmentally sensitive, develop understandings of EE, acquisition of necessary knowledge and applications to protect the nature, informing others, being conscious of any changes in the environment, aware of responsibilities for EE”. In conclusion, the teacher mostly stated that EE and sustainability consciousness is critical to teaching the next generations regarding the environment and sustainability to protect the world in the future.
