           Readers’ Comprehension Strategies

    • Authors: Wanpen Poomarin, Mongkolchai Tiansoodeenon, Suphannee Arsairach, Benjaporn Meeprom
      Pages: 1 - 17
Abstract: This study aimed to investigate methodological challenges in using the think-aloud method to assess EFL students’ employment of reading strategies. The participants in this study consisted of 16 Thai EFL university students. Think-aloud and videotaped observations were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed by content analysis. The results of the study revealed that levels of text difficulty and topics of interest, familiarity with the think-aloud method and the observer, ability to verbalize thoughts, and cultural differences were major methodological challenges in the maximum utilization of the think-aloud method for collecting qualitative data. Based on the findings, some pedagogical implications were suggested for utilizing the think-aloud method in the English reading classroom.

  • The Relationship among Parental Support, Study Attitudes, and Academic
Achievement of Students in Ratanakiri Province, Cambodia

    • Authors: Leakhena Khon, Nopadol Nimsuwan, Kettawa Boonprakarn
      Pages: 19 - 36
Abstract: This research aimed to study the relationship between parental support, their attitudes towards education, and academic achievementsat the secondary level of indigenous and Khmer students in Rattanakiri Province, Cambodia. Multiple questionnaires were used as a data collection tool. A sample of the research was 231 indigenous and Khmer students, aged between 15 and 20 years old. These groups of students were selected with a two-step sampling technique: group sampling and student sampling for data translation. Group sampling was intended to select two high schools located in Cambodia’s Rattanakhiri Province. The researcher employed the independent sample tests using a t-test to determine the differences. The Pearson coefficient analysis was used to measure the relationship between the three factors.
The results showed that the parental support and their attitudes towards academic achievements have no significant differences. There are differences in academic achievement between the two groups of students, however. The Pearson’s coercive value showed that parental support has a significantly negative correlation with student achievement. On the other hand, there is no significant correlation between attitudes towards education and academic achievement.

  • Trends and Influences on Phuket Diploma Students in Choosing a University

    • Authors: Wanwisa Noichaleam
      Pages: 37 - 55
Abstract: This research had three objectives: 1) to study the inclination of diploma students living in Phuket to continue their higher education, 2) to study the factors affecting the students’ decisions to choose a tertiary institution, and 3) to suggest a management approach for higher educational institutions located in Phuket. The samples were 222 diploma students. The research tool was questionnaires. The data was analyzed using a T-test, One-Way Analysis of Variance, Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient, and Multiple Regression Analysis with the synthesis of content and summary. The results showed that 1) the students with a diploma who desire to continue their higher education are inclined to increase from the current status. This is because higher education institutions have become more interested in offering courses that meet the needs of the global economy. 2) Factors that are affecting the students’ decision in choosing a university include courses, fees, and building and location with a statistical level of significance of 0.05. The overall variation can be indicated at 49.4 per cent. 3) Suggestions: Phuket’s higher educational institutions should pay attention to courses, especially weekend courses. It should be noted that the courses offered should meet the needs of the labor market. The institutions also should develop teaching methodologies that emphasize actual Practice-Based Learning, and adjust the contents to be up-to-date and by changing situations, be it technology or social.

  • The Relationship Model among Transformational Leadership, Work Engagement,
and Job Performance of Head Nurses

    • Authors: Chutikarn Jamlongkun, Phechnoy Singchungchai, Kannikar Chatdokmaiprai
      Pages: 57 - 74
Abstract: The purpose of this research was to test the structural equation model of transformational leadership, work engagement, and job performance. The samples were 269 head nurses working in general hospitals. A total of 269 head nurses were selected using Stratified Random Sampling. The research instruments were questionnaires. The questionnaires’ confidence value was evaluated using Cronbach’s Alpha and construct validity through element analysis. The background information of the respondents was analyzed using descriptive statistics. The structural equation model was employed to analyze the causal relationships. The verification of the model’s consistency was conducted relying on hypothesis and empirical data. The study revealed that both transformational leadership and work engagement of head nurses have a positive direct impact on job performance. On the other hand, change leadership along with job engagement have a statistically significant indirect impact on job performance. The structural equation model of change leadership, job engagement, and job performance is congruent with the empirical data. (P-value = 0.069, CMIN/DF = 1.49, GFI = 0.97, AGFI = 0.95, CFI= 1.00, SRMR= 0.023, RMSEA = 0.043). Seventy-eight per cent of all the variables (R2 = 0.78) can predict the job performance of head nurses. These findings suggest that administrators should adhere to developing head nurses to fulfil their roles and promote change leadership and work engagement to achieve the requirements.

Service of Hotel Industries in Southern Border Provinces

    • Authors: Kritsadee Phuangrod, Suwanat Thongsongyod
      Pages: 131 - 147
Abstract: This research aimed to study tourist perception factors regarding hotel services as a marketing communication element to construct a predictive equation of the factors. The use of accidental random sampling revealed a total of 400 samples staying in hotels located in Sothern Border provinces.
The study’s predictive variables included advertising, public relations, sale promotion, personal selling, and direct marketing. A criterion variable was the tourists’ perception of the service of hotel industries. Data were collected by questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using the Stepwise Multiple Regression and the predictive equation.
The study revealed that the influence level of the overall factors affecting marketing communication is high; e.g., advertising, public relation, sale promotion, personal selling, and direct marketing. When calculated separately, each factor is also found highly effective.
Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that factors like personal selling (X4), advertising (X1), public relations (X2), and direct marketing (X5) can predict tourists’ perceptions of the service offered by the hotels with multiple coefficient value (R) of .661, 43.70% of forecast power, and statistical significance at .01. The forecast equation in the form of raw score can be written as follows:
      Y = 1.722 + 0.322 X4 + 0.228 X1 - 0.101 X2 + 0.141 X5

A descriptive research methodology was employed in the study to find the relationships.
The samples were 358 administrators of Thailand’s private universities selected by the simple sampling method. A 5-rating scale questionnaire was used as a research tool. The reliability of the questionnaire was checked with an alpha coefficient of 0.91. Statistics used to analyze data include frequency, percentage, average, and standard deviation. Structural equation modelling was analyzed through path analysis. The research findings revealed that the relationship model among strategic leadership, innovation management, and organizational performance of private universities was matched with the empirical data (= 308.38, df = 259, p-value = 0.19, /df = 1.19, GFI = 0.94, AGFI = 0.92, RMSEA = 0.02, RMR = 0.01, CFI = 0.99). Strategic leadership has a direct influence on innovation management (= 0.77, p-value < 0.05), and has a direct influence on the performance of the university (= 0.51, p-value < 0.05). Innovation management has a direct influence on the performance of the university (= 0.43, p-value < 0.05). Along with innovation management, strategic leadership has an indirect influence on the performance of the universities (= 0.84, p-value < 0.05).
The research indicates that strategic leadership and innovation management are important factors for organizational performance. Thus, to efficiently administer the university’s courses, it is suggested that, administrators should have strategic leadership skills, bring in or produce innovation, and create more desirable learning management which will eventually lead to better organizational performance.

Abstract: The production capability of the Thai mold industry at present is progressing and developing continually. Mostly, it is small and medium enterprises. For Thailand, it is important to focus on Industry 4.0 to drive the development process of different kinds of products, making the country competitive in the market, and able to cover all the demands needed. However, Thailand’s adaptation to Industry 4.0 requires a focus on human resources, labor skills, and technology. Although Thailand has a reputation for producing a strong industrial supply, the result of an in-depth analysis of industrial development revealed that the country still has a shortage of skilled workers and technicians. Therefore, Thailand’s mold industry should focus on human resource development, investment capital, integration of modern technology with the production process, as well as proper management, for its efficiency and competitiveness in the mold manufacturing industry.
