  • The Analysis of the Effect of Real Interests on Income Distribution with
           ARDL Model Approach

    • Authors: Ahmet KAMACI; M.said CEYHAN, Mehmet Akif PEÇE
Abstract: TheGini coefficient which measures the unfair distribution of income is a valuebetween 0 and 1. As the index value approaches to 1, unfairness increases andas it approaches to 0, income distribution becomes fairer. The aim of thisstudy is to examine the effect of real interest on income distribution in 5developing countries which are close to each other in terms of real per capitaincome with panel data analysis. In this context, since the data of 2000-2016include cross sectional dependency, second generation panel root tests wereused. Since the series are stable on different levels, ARDL model was utilized. Then, the coefficient between the variables were determined by using the PMGestimator and causality analysis was conducted. According to the result of thestudy, although there isn’t a short-term relationship between the variables, there is a cointegrated relationship in long-term. Furthermore, according tothe PMG estimator, an increase of 1 unit, increases the Gini coefficient by0.007. Since the conducted causality analysis was resulted in accordance withthe Gini coefficient from real interests, it verifies this result. Since theincrease in real interests increases the Gini coefficient, real interestsshould be decreased for a more fair income distribution, according to theresult of this study.

  • Determining the relationship between non-performing loans, economic
growth, and asset size: An application in Turkish Participation Banking
           Sector

    • Authors: Mehmet APAN; Mehmet İSLAMOĞLU
Abstract: Participation Banks are an alternative financialinstitution that contributes to the development and deepening of the financialsystem in the Turkish Banking Sector. In this study, the relationship between participation banks,non-performing loans, gross domestic product, and asset size in the period2005: Q1-2018: Q2 was investigated by using the co-integration, Grangercausality tests and regression analysis methods. The results of the Grangercausality test show that there is a one-way causality relationship betweennon-performing loans to gross domestic product and the gross domestic productto asset size, but there is a double causality relationship betweennon-performing loans and asset size. In the results of empirical analysis, astatistically significant relationship was found between both gross domesticproduct and asset size, and non-performing loans. In this context, it isdetermined that there is a negative relationship between non-performing loansand gross domestic product. On the other hand, it was determined that the assetsize of the participation banking sector increased and the non-performing loanswere affected in the same direction.

  • Power and Stability Policies in the Black Sea-Caspian Region in the
Context of Max Weber’s Authority Approach

    • Authors: İhsan ÇAPCIOĞLU; Ahmed Hamza ALPAY
Abstract: Weber defined the authority that gave legitimacyto power based on the concept of sovereignty and tried to understand the levelof awareness of the individual’s social actions. Together with the phenomenonof power, who played an active role in thestrategic platform formed at the same time the hegemony of the authority. Theplaymakers, who are the active subjects of International Relations, produceproactive-structural policies considering the power balances. In this context, the Black Sea and the Caspian Basin are not only affected by energy, politicsand power policies on geopolitical axes but also affect these policies. Turkeyis strengthening its central position taking an active role in the Black Seaand the Caspian Basin energy and stability policies for the balance of power inthe Eurasian axis. In this study, on the scale of the Black Sea and the Caspian Basin; in terms ofTurkey, regional and global actors in energy policies, geopolitics and thebalance of power will be examined.

  • Is The Dutch Disease Valid for Turkey in terms of the Effects of Portfolio
Investments and Export Revenues on the Manufacturing Industry'

    • Authors: Ali KONAK
Abstract: TheDutch disease which emerges as a result of suddenly finding a large amount ofcommercially valuable mines, is an economical issue which has an effect onvarious macroeconomic variables, notably on foreign exchange rate. Although intheory, the Dutch disease is defined as a problem caused by foreign currencywhich is acquired by the detection and exportation of valuable mines in thelong term, it is possible for other economic developments which provide inflowof foreign currency to the country to have economical effects on the nationaleconomy that are similar to the effects of the Dutch disease. In our study inwhich we question the existence of the Dutch disease due to the inflow offoreign currency through various channels, the effects of portfolio investmentsand export revenues on manufacturing industry sector were analyzed in terms ofthe hypothesis of the Dutch disease by using the quarterly data of2005:Q1-2018:Q4, obtained from the Electronic Data Delivery System (EDDS) ofThe Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) and by using Toda-Yamamotocausality test. As a result of the analysis, there wasn’t a causal relationshipbetween manufacturing industry and portfolio investments and exports. For thisreason, it was concluded that the Dutch disease is out of the question forTurkey’s economy.

  • The Role Of Gender And Women In Political Institutions In Africa: A Case
           Of Political Parties

    • Authors: İsrael Nyaburi NYADERA; Michael Otieno KİSAKA
Abstract: Thedemocratization process in Africa opened up spacefor the emergence of several political parties across the continent as mostcountries moved from one-party rule tomulti-party democracy. This tectonic shift signaleda new beginning in the political arena, and there were expectations that equalrepresentation in the political spherewould be a by-product of the democratization process. This paper underscoresthe challenge of gender inequality in representative politics and as it would be expected in patriarchal societies; womenshoulder the brunt of marginalization in the political arena.  It argues that despite the inclusion ofgender-responsive texts in political parties’ manifestoes and constitution, thegender gap is still burgeoning. Itrecommends that political parties should come up with pragmatic strategies to enhance gender equality and cease toinclude gender texts as mere political rhetoric.

  • A Method Of Baiting In Internet Journalism; Fear And Threat Journalism

    • Authors: Mustafa İNCE
Abstract: Withthe forced migration of traditional media to the internet environment, ratingcompetition in televisions and circulation competition in newspapers havebecome the competition of being the most-clicked on the internet. In fact, thiscompetition was seen as a struggle to survive for news sites. However, thisapproach worked up producing/making news with the “no matter how, as long as itis clicked” logic in internet journalism. Especially headlines were started tobe created in a way which threaten, frighten and cause concern in the reader, beyond arousing curiosity. Unfortunately, this understanding meant ignoring thejournalism principles and ethical orders as well as deceiving the readers. Inthese kind of news reports which are produced with the concern of being widelyclicked and read, readers are literally forced to read those news reports sincean expectation is created for them by using titles that are more assertive thanit already is, which generally address to the feelings of the reader anddiscuss subjects that are controversial in terms of newsworthiness. In thenews, frightening, worrisome, disconcerting and over-thrilling language andwording are used as well as misleading information and noncompliance betweenthe title and the content. The news reports that are produced with thisunderstanding deceive the readers and discredit internet journalism andinternet news.Theaim of this study is to put forward the creation of a new journalismunderstanding which frightens, almost threatens and causes worry in the reader(compels them to read) in internet journalism. Within the scope of theresearch, 5 most followed internet sites in Turkey, according to the webtraffic measurements of Alexa (Top Sites in Turkey) for December 2018, weremonitored for 2 months. The compliance between the titles and news reports inthese news sites were analyzed along with the language and wording, byexamining certain news reports that are created andpublished in a way which threatens, frightens, causes anxiety or worry in thereader. The literature related to the subject was utilized as well.
