  • Better Leveraging Monetary of Rewards in the 21st Century Workplace Using

    • Abstract: The purpose of this article is to understand how to better leverage monetary rewards at work using Self-Determination Theory (SDT). According to SDT research, employees can ascribe different functional meaning to monetary rewards. When rewards take on an informative meaning, they positively contribute to employees' basic psychological needs, leading to greater autonomous motivation, and better work outcomes, while when presented in a coercive way they negatively contribute to employees' basic psychological needs because they lead to greater controlled motivation. We propose that employers need to better understand employees' attributes, consider alternative forms of rewards and provide communication training, in order to better satisfy employees' psychological needs and avoid the negative outcomes of controlling monetary rewards. Our research contributes to the understanding of both employers' and employees' experience of workplace cash rewards and explores theoretical avenues on how rewards in modern work contexts need to be functionally contextualized by personal, organizational and cultural factors (e.g., the functional meaning of rewards, basic needs satisfaction).

  • A Study of the relationship between the Symbolic Adoption of Human
           Resource Information Systems', Technology Adoption factors, and

    • Abstract: Over recent years, the Human Resource Information System (HRIS) has gained tremendous impetus in industry. Still, the literature states that most information system failures result from employee resistance and subsequent opposition behaviour. To address the gap in the literature, this study has targeted employees' technological symbolic adoption to analyze employee resistance behaviour. As employees' technological symbolic adoption occurs much before their actual technology adoption. Symbolic adoption means users' mental evaluation of the technology used for their work. This study has taken the perspective of HRIS symbolic adoption and identifies its antecedents and outcome factors, i.e., technology adoption factors and work-related outcomes. Thus, this study investigates the relationship between technology adoption factors (performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and information quality) and work-related outcomes (work-life balance, engagement, and creativity). Furthermore, this study examines the mediating effect of HRIS symbolic adoption between the above-stated factors. 415 HRIS end-users from the HR department of small-to-medium-sized organizations were recruited to collect data. This paper offers a theoretical and practical contribution, extending the line of research on the end user's symbolic adoption domain, and helping small and medium-size organizations to better understand end-users' technological adoption factors. In light of this study's findings, HR practitioners and management should focus on effective HRIS interventions in small and medium-sized organizations to stay ahead with engaged, creative, and balanced employees.

  • Impact of inclusive leadership on adaptive performance: The role of

    • Abstract: As an organizational behaviour, job performance can be described from two perspectives, namely organizational citizenship behaviour and task performance. To enhance the concept of job performance, especially in servicing jobs (e.g., nursing), recent literature has considered the construct of adaptive performance. Thus, the major purpose of this research is to analyze the nexus between inclusive leadership (IL) and adaptive performance (AP) among private hospital nurses in Jordan using innovative work behaviour (IWB) as a mediating variable. Our study uses questionnaires to collect data from 169 nurses who work in different private hospitals in Jordan. The nature of the study is quantitative and cross-sectional, with individuals as the unit of analysis. The survey questionnaires, which consist of measures of IL, AP, and IWB, were distributed to the full-time nurses in the hospitals. The empirical outcomes show that IL has a direct and significant predictive effect on AP, and an indirect predictive effect through innovative work behaviour. This study discusses the practical and theoretical implications of the empirical results. The outcomes of this study could help practitioners and policy makers to create effective IL and IWB that can enhance employees' adaptability towards their organization with a view to boosting their AP.

  • Co-destruction of Value - A Stakeholder Conceptual Review by Ogunbodede,
           O.

    • Abstract: Co-destruction of value has been highlighted as a possible outcome of every interaction between firms and consumers. Despite the likelihood of its occurrence, the concept is not adequately defined or understood, while little is known about how and where it occurs. This paper reviews the literature on co-destruction to provide insights into what co-destruction is, and it identifies where co-destruction occurs and how it occurs through resource mis-integration and in practice. The review takes a stakeholder approach, highlighting how value can be co-destroyed by stakeholders both within the dyad of the firm and its consumers and beyond this dyad during multiparty interactions and in virtual communities. The analysis suggests that value can only be co-destroyed when the expectations of the beneficiary are higher than the level of service offered by the provider. The paper proposes a new definition for co-destruction and highlights pressing research gaps within the co-destruction literature.

  • Integrating Fairness Evaluations into Social Comparison Processes: The
           Construct of Fairness of Relative Perceived Organizational Support (FRPOS)

    • Abstract: This study incorporates fairness evaluations into social comparison processes and proposes a new construct, namely Fairness of Relative Perceived Organizational Support (FRPOS). FRPOS captures an employee's belief that it is fair to receive higher organizational support than his/her coworkers. The effects of FRPOS on intent to quit through Perceived Organizational Support (POS) are examined. Moreover, this study investigates whether Relative Perceived Organizational Support (RPOS) moderates the relationship between FRPOS and subsequent employee reactions. Based on a field study in which 289 employees took part, the findings indicate that FRPOS exerts a statistically significant positive effect on intent to quit, while POS can only partially explain such an effect. RPOS was found to moderate (weaken) the negative relationship between FRPOS and POS, thus affecting the ability of POS to mediate the FRPOS-intent to quit relationship (moderated mediation). These findings suggest that employees seek to understand whether they deserve relatively better treatment than their coworkers and react positively only when they actually receive it. Generally, this study has significant practical implications, proposing that organizations and HR managers should pay attention not only to "objective" fairness, but also to "subjective" aspects of fairness, as perceived by employees.

  • Contemporary CSR Model: Conceptualization, Scale Development, and
           Validation to Measure Consumer Perceptions by Singh, K.S.D.S., Abbasi,

    • Abstract: The objectives of this article are twofold. The first objective is to review three CSR models to propose a new contemporary model of CSR, representing the significant commitments and practices organisations should undertake in their quest to become socially responsible. The second objective is to develop and validate a new CSR scale to measure consumer perceptions of organizations' CSR performance-based Drawing on Carroll's CSR, Vissers' CSR 2.0 models, and the Bursa Malaysia CSR framework, the research proposes a conceptual framework. A CSR scale was developed and validated through a large-scale empirical study measuring consumer perceptions involving 909 respondents from Malaysia. The CSR scale items were tested and validated via exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis. As a result, the new CSR model consisted of six main dimensions representing key CSR commitments, and a 27 item CSR scale was validated. The conceptual framework adds value by providing managers and policymakers with a new way of looking at CSR holistically and comprehensively, enabling the development of effective CSR initiatives and strategies. In addition, the contemporary scale provides a reliable and valid instrument to measure consumers' perceptions of their CSR initiatives.

  • The Impact of Innovation Competitive Advantage on Product Quality for
           Sustainable Growth among SMEs: An Empirical Analysis by Nimfa, D.T., Uzir,

    • Abstract: Supported by the dynamic capabilities theory of the firm, this study considered innovation competitive advantage, product quality, and technology adoption as the core dynamic capabilities of manufacturing SMEs. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of two components of innovation competitive advantage, that is, customer preference and strategic business model, on product quality for sustainable growth among SMEs. It also examined the mediating effect of technology adoption on the relationship between innovation competitive advantage and product quality. Survey data was collected from 245 manufacturing SMEs in Nigeria and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling. The results revealed that customer preference does not directly affect product quality; however, technology adoption mediates the relationship between customer preference and product quality. The strategic business model was found to have a significant positive effect on product quality,Int.     • Abstract: The aim of this study is to explore the diffusion of information systems (IS) in small and medium enterprises (SMEs) as a multifaceted and open social phenomenon, by considering the role and effects of complementary adoptions -in terms of other innovations and their adopters- on the adoption of the IS -focal adoptions. We conceptualised adoption as a staged process (agenda-setting, matching, implementing, restructuring, clarifying, routinising and infusion) and used multiple case studies to guide the fieldwork and analysis. We found that the outcome, timing, and flow of the stages of the focal processes were affected by intricate and multilevel systems of mutually dependent complementary adoptions of innovations and non-innovations by a diversity of adopters, which ultimately determined the results of the focal adoptions. Our constructs define an alternative unit of analysis that provides a comprehensive and realistic view of the possibilities of effectively diffusing IS in SMEs. This emphasises the need to rethink the objects of study, agency functions, theoretical frameworks, and research approaches if we are to understand systems and design and implement system interventions, including public policies.

  • Examining User Acceptance and Adoption of the Internet of Things by Lu, Y.

    • Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) promises a new technological paradigm that can offer a number of innovative applications and services targeting different scopes of adoption. The full potential impact of the IoT is enormous due to its pervasive nature and the rapid improvement of enabling technologies. Taking lessons from information technology and systems in their early stages, a low degree of user acceptance would hinder the progress of IoT implementation. Studies of the IoT from the user perspective mainly investigated factors influencing acceptance and use of a specific service or application. A comprehensive view of users' attitude toward the IoT platform may offer further insights. Drawing upon the Diffusion of Innovation Theory and the Technology Acceptance Model, this study examined six potential determinants of users' adoption of the IoT platform and tested two potential psychological outcomes. Using data collected from 615 potential users and analysing with structural equation modelling techniques, the results and findings of this study contribute to facilitating understandings of IoT acceptance and adoption.
