  Abstract: Although the concept and the sources of competitive advantage have been extensively researched, literature still offers limited answers to the questions why, in some cases, there is overperformance despite the absence of competitive advantage and underperformance despite the presence of competitive advantage. By employing four case studies in dry bulk and container shipping, as its research method, this paper provides real-world evidence on the specific reasons underpinning the relationship patterns of competitive advantage without superior financial performance and superior financial performance without competitive advantage. The findings indicate that rapidly growing markets within an industry enable companies without competitive advantage to enjoy above industry average financial performance. Moreover, principal-principal conflicts and excessive capital expenditure in idiosyncratic firm resources result to underperformance even for companies with competitive advantage. These findings have important managerial and academic implications that are discussed herein.

  Abstract: This study aims to assess fleet practice and implications for fleet performance in Ethiopian pharmaceutical supply agency (EPSA). EPSA is encountering aging fleets, higher fleet expenses, lack of spare parts, and excessive service delays. EPSA was chosen as it was the major public pharmaceutical procurer and distributor in Ethiopia. Institution-based descriptive and explanatory cross-sectional study designs with mixed approaches were employed. Descriptive findings reveal that vehicle tracking is the most practiced activity. Correlation and regression analysis show that maintenance, fuel, and tracking activities have significant association and predictive power for fleet performance. Qualitative findings show that delay of vehicle maintenance was the major challenge. EPSA higher officials may emphasize having well-organized workshop. The findings can be considered as input by policymakers in the transport sector. The limitation was the use of a homogenous purposive sampling method for the qualitative study. Thus, future study can be conducted using other reliable methods.

A Systematic Literature Review on Studying Energy Consumption Assessment
in Heritage Buildings

  Abstract: Energy Consumption of Heritage Buildings (ECHBs) on construction sites has become essential in both the industry and academia as construction projects grow increasingly complex. With a prime goal of increasing its effectiveness, ECHBs research has witnessed tremendous growth over the past three decades. This research paper recruited a mixed-review method of scientometric and systematic reviews of 111 research papers on ECHBs published from 1994 to 2020 (as of mid of June). The scientometric review identified the most prolific journals, keyword correlations and geospatial connections between research countries in the ECHBs field. On the other hand, the systematic review analysis showed that there are five main research topics in ECHBs. These topics encompass energy efficiency, biodeterioration, environmental conditions in heritage sites, sustainability, and design for climatic conditions. Furthermore, the major approaches applied in ECHBs research were investigated. Potential research methodologies to address these research areas are also discussed.

  Abstract: A faster pace of change in business strategies and the adoption of new mining models on the part of mining companies is their response to commodity price decrease, global demand change, operating costs increase, ore grade declining, the need to extend asset life cycle, community empowerment, and increased mining operating licenses. One of the mainstream solutions is the organization’s automation and digital transformation aiming to achieve new levels of performance throughout the process network. However, the barrier that hinders any transformation process is the network culture supporting productive/administrative processes. This paper shows how relational change determines the amount of organizational waste production, so trying to introduce digital change excluding network culture results in a futile effort. The data shown comes from assessments in the Occupational Safety and Health Management (OSHM) of Chuquicamata Division, Codelco, Chile.

  Abstract: Personalized recommendations are widely used to improve customer experience and drive sales. Traditional recommender systems typically focus on using accuracy as the key metric to evaluate the performance of personalized recommendations. However, recent studies suggest that recommending a diverse list of products improves user satisfaction and is positively associated with customer retention rates. In this study, we propose to incorporate the product ratings from users’ online social relations into recommendation model to enhance the diversity of personalized recommendation list. The empirical results indicate that our proposed approach performs well in increasing the recommendation diversity while maintaining comparable level of accuracy. The findings offer practical implications for online businesses to leverage online social relations.

  Abstract: The purpose of the research is in illusion of the utility of neuroeconomics in decision making and behavior. Scientific knowledge will be advanced in the need for the application of neuroeconomics focused on one of the services of the information and communication technologies (ICT) of companies that is e-commerce of exponential artisanal SMEs of women entrepreneurs, by developing a proposal for a business model to increase the possibility of growth of their companies at the level national and international level. The methodological approach used was deductive, exploratory, descriptive, correlational and documentary. The findings are neuroeconomics have the potential to explain the phenomena that are considered as a deviation from the prediction or behavioral bias of decision-making models in economic theory. The practical implications are the study up to this point is quantitative using primary and secondary sources for research.

  Abstract: Axioms are reviewed for group contest success functions for general production functions, focusing particularly on the additive production function and the multiplicative Cobb-Douglas production function. With one minor exception, these axioms already exist in the literature. This article clarifies which axioms apply and how they apply for group contest success functions. Essential for axioms satisfied by the additive production function, driven by substitutability across efforts, is the sufficiency of only one group member exerting effort. Essential for axioms satisfied by the multiplicative production function, driven by complementarity across efforts, is that all group members exert efforts. The additive production function satisfies an axiom where adding an amount to one effort and subtracting the same amount from a second equivalent substitutable effort does not change the winning probabilities. The Cobb-Douglas production function satisfies a strong homogeneity axiom where an equiproportionate change in matched group member’s efforts does not affect the winning probabilities.

  Abstract: The study was inspired by the involvement of youths in political violence in Zimbabwe. It attempted to expose pluralistic ignorance concept as a way of reducing violence in political spheres. The concept of Pluralistic Ignorance argues that there are individuals who wrongly see the attitudes and deeds of peers as unlike their own when in fact they are not. It creates misunderstandings, which ensue in relation to problem behaviours which are commonly overrated. The study followed an intensive desk review conducted along a qualitative research paradigm. The concept of anti-violence as defined by the Commonwealth Commission on Respect and Understanding was applied to underpin the analysis. The study noted that the exposure of pluralistic ignorance allowed the affected youths to be able to discern the good from the bad and make sound decisions for their participation in politics. This, if appropriately applied helps reduce youth conflicts in politics in Africa.
