    • Authors: Ying HUI, Qingyun ZHANG, Lei YAO
      Pages: 5 - 10
Abstract: Death has been a taboo subject in Chinese culture. Studying how Chinese people conceptualize death is an important way to better understanding Chinese culture. The current paper adopts the multimodal metaphor theory as the theoretical foundation and explores the death metaphors in some Chinese TV series. The present study finds five death metaphors, and they are DEATH IS DOWN, DEATH IS SETTING, DEATH IS GOING OUT, DEATH IS BIRTH and DEATH IS DARKNESS. The source domains are presented in the mode of pictorial signs and color while the target domain is presented by the mode of pictorial signs alone, or the mode of spoken signs alone, or sometimes by the two simultaneously.

  • Soft Skill Development in Moroccan EFL Higher Education

    • Authors: Soukaina Aziz, Said Zaidoune
      Pages: 18 - 25
Abstract: In nearly all institutions and educational systems across the globe, soft skills have become a top focus. Universities now try to accomplish the educational ideal of integrating and developing the soft skills of their students. There is a tacit understanding regarding the need of incorporating soft skills into education, and a great deal of literature has been produced on the subject, however, integrating and developing soft skills in language education is a less researched topic. While there are a variety of techniques of soft skill development, the primary objective of this article is to discuss soft skill development strategies in EFL higher education and soft skill integration models in higher education.

  • Determinants of Dividend Payout By Property Companies Listed on The
Zimbabwe Stock Exchange: The Case of Zimre Property Investments Limited

    • Authors: Marima Israel, Kurebwa Jeffrey
      Pages: 24 - 35
Abstract: The purpose of the study was to establish the determinants of dividend payout for listed property companies on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE). The study adopted the pragmatist philosophy that permitted the triangulation of quantitative and qualitative methodologies. For data collection, questionnaires and in-depth interviews are to be used with Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and thematic analysis to be used for data analysis respectively. The findings revealed that the variables considered in this study namely profitability, prior dividend, and market value had a positive relationship with dividend payout. Only growth opportunities were inversely related to the dividend pay-out. Industry classification had positive effect to the dividend pay-out on ZSE listed property companies as the sectors was characterized by existing growth opportunities. Similarly, dividend payout would positively influence the share market price. The study therefore concluded that there was existence of positive correlation between share price, company classification and dividend pay-out. Industrial classification had an impact on dividend pay-out. Managers of property firms were recommended to aim at having high growth opportunities high Current Earnings (CE), high return on equity and investing in risk business. The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) could facilitate the creation of stock market (Secondary market) where investors could easily sell or buy shares of companies to curtail the loss of investors in the property market. The Ministry of Finance and Economic Development should create relevant policy that allowed the participation of the government in the property sector.

  • How Instructors Engage Students in Online Courses: A Correlational Study
From the Perspective of Transformational Leadership

    • Authors: Jiabing YIN, Jianjun YIN
      Pages: 36 - 45
Abstract: Universally accepted as a long-term critical strategy in higher educational institutions (HEIs) over the past two decades, online courses have recently witnessed a tremendous surge since the outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic. There is a growing concern among educational stakeholders regarding how to effectively engage students in online courses. Though research efforts have proved significant positive correlations between online instructor transformational leadership (TL) and student satisfaction/learning outcomes, empirical investigations in relation to the correlation between instructor TL and student engagement in college online courses are rare. This paper conducted a quantitative correlational study using two previously well-established survey questionnaires, Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (5X-Short) and Online Community and Engagement Scale, to assess students’ perceptions of online instructor TL behaviors and SE. Spearman’s rank correlation analysis demonstrated that there exist significant positive linear correlations between the concerned variables, and multiple linear regression analysis identified two specific TL factors, Idealized Influence (Attribute) and Intellectual Stimulation, as significant predictors of student engagement in online courses. This paper concludes with the implication that HEIs should encourage the training of online instructors as transformational leaders in instructor professional development session. Limitations and corresponding recommendations for future research are also proposed at the end.

  • Research on the Green Production Behavior of Large-Scale Agricultural
           Business Entities

    • Authors: Hongling XIANG
      Pages: 46 - 55
Abstract: Green production behavior is conducive to reducing agricultural pollution and saving resources from the source, and is an important path to achieve sustainable agricultural development and the transformation of agricultural green production mode. This study takes large-scale agricultural business entities as the research object, explores the driving factors of green production behavior, constructs an evaluation index system of green production behavior, and analyzes the adoption of green production behavior based on field research. The research conclusion shows that: (1) the occurrence of green production behavior of large-scale agricultural management entities is the result of the combined effect of intrinsic motivation and external stimulus, and the importance of different factors to different green production behaviors is different; (2) The overall adoption of green production behavior was poor, and the score ranking of the four types of behaviors was: green reduction input behavior> green technology adoption behavior> waste recycling behavior > cultivated land protection behavior. Therefore, in the pre-production and post-production cultivated land protection and waste treatment, we should pay attention to the exploration of behavioral methods, and pay attention to the improvement of behavioral efficiency when reducing input in production and adopting green technologies.

  • Worrying Political Democracy in 2024 National Elections on the Behavior of
           Election Managers

    • Authors: Osbin Samosir
      Pages: 56 - 62
Abstract: Election organizers in Indonesia’s general elections are often accused of being an obstacle to the growth of democracy. The position of election administrators is a very serious problem for the growth of Indonesian democracy. The reason is very simple: Indonesia’s democracy failed during the New Order era which was supported by election administrators. The New Order was an opaque democracy for Indonesia’s democracy because election administrators were inseparable from the authoritarian regime. Even in the early days of reform, election management was very disappointing and became a source of new problems. When the election organizers namely the General Election Commission - KPU (Komisi Pemilihan Umum) were asked to supervise their work by establishing the Election Supervisory Body – Bawaslu (Badan Pengawas Pemilihan Umum) in 2008 it was real evidence of poor performance that. The emergence of the third election organizing body, namely the Honorary Election Organizing Council - DKPP (Dewan Kehormatan Penyelenggara Pemilihan Umum) is a sign that election administrators behave badly in building a dignified election process. The big concern is the difficulty of holding dignified general elections in the 2024 national simultaneous elections.

  • A Cognitive Study of the Construction of Killing Scenes in Chinese TV
           Series

    • Authors: Lei YAO, Qingyun ZHANG
      Pages: 63 - 69
Abstract: Killing scenes are bloody and can make people feel sick and uncomfortable. Therefore, they are usually partially presented in film and TV works. Yet the audience can still work out the whole killing scene. The underlying mechanism has been sparsely investigated. The current study explores the underlying mechanism by devising a model integrating the Killing Scenario and the concept of multimodal low-level situational metonymy. Through case studies of killing scenes in some Chinese TV series, the paper finds that multimodal situational metonymy is the underlying cognitive mechanism and can well explain how the audience construct the whole killing scenes on the basis of partial clues.

  • Application of Smart Classroom in College English Teaching With
           Flipped-Classroom Model

    • Authors: Yuyi QIU, Qunxia CEN
      Pages: 74 - 79
Abstract: With the increasing popularity of “Flipped Classroom”, more advanced teaching technology and more sophisticated software are in need. However, the multi-media classroom cannot meet the requirements of the teaching model of Flipped Classroom, where methodology of blended learning, collaborative teaching, as well as digital teaching are advocated. With the further improvement in the aspects of environment, resources, interaction, and technology, Smart Classroom becomes a preferable platform for the teaching model of Flipped Classroom. The application of Smart Classroom in College English teaching obviously exhibits its advantages in optimizing the teaching effects by arousing the interest of students and enhancing the communication.

           Education in the Pandemic Era

    • Authors: Na HUANG
      Pages: 80 - 83
Abstract: Health education for college students is an indispensable part of quality education in colleges or universities. In the post-pandemic era, college students have changed their original study and life style due to the pandemic, which places higher demands for college health educators. By analyzing the dilemma faced by health education in the post-pandemic era and the causes of it, this paper intends to strengthen the health education of college students from the following five aspects: establishing the network health education system, carrying out the multi-dimensional health education mode, implementing the health education in line with the students’ own characteristics, improving the peer support education ability, and strengthening the moral cultivation of college students. It is hoped that this paper can promote college students to form good living habits, behavior patterns, correct study ethics and moral standards and to lay a solid foundation for the future on the social work post.

  • A Study of Social Support for Patients with Mental Disorders in
           Rehabilitation Stations

    • Authors: Yun AO, Wenjing DONG
      Pages: 84 - 92
Abstract:  In recent years, the prevalence of mental disorders has increased dramatically and has become a disease that seriously endangers people’s physical and mental health. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), about 1 billion people worldwide are suffering from mental disorders. However, the social organizations specializing in serving people with mental disorders in China are inadequate and have limited power, and the cooperative ties among welfare providers are not close enough, which cause the failing to provide efficient support and services for people with mental disorders. This study adopts a field research method to explore the complementary cooperative relationship among various welfare providers and the social support received by patients with mental disorders in the rehabilitation process, and to promote the social support role of various welfare providers in education, employment and medical care in the welfare services for the group of patients with mental disorders, using 17 rehabilitation stations in Suzhou City A District as the research subjects.

  • Evaluation of Student Interpreters Using Voice Recognition and Automatic
           Grammar Correction

    • Authors: Bin LIU, Hui LIU
      Pages: 93 - 96
Abstract: The evaluation and assessment of student interpreters have long been an issue for interpreting programs. The balance between student practice throughput, the time and human cost of assessment, and the quality of feedback is notoriously difficult to achieve. Here we demonstrate a way to rapidly assess student Chinese-to-English interpreting performance using automatic speech recognition and grammar correction software. The assessment results are compared with human graders against a set of criteria for grammar, fidelity, register, and enunciation. The results show that the semiautomatic assessment process is less time-consuming, and can give adequate feedback for enunciation, grammar, and register. Student volunteers were able to maintain engagement over a three-month period with minimal intervention from the instructor, however, interest began to drop over the long term.

           Undergraduate Universities

    • Authors: Xiaoli ZHU
      Pages: 97 - 103
Abstract: The “administration” of local undergraduate universities is mainly manifested in the administrative tendency of the management of government to universities and the administrative tendency of the internal management of universities. By deconstructing the common administrative problems and their causes in local undergraduate universities, the path of optimization of administrative management in local undergraduate universities will be explored. The purpose is to reshape the relationship between the government which provides the service and universities which are served. Also, the internal governance structure of administrative power and academic power in local undergraduate universities can be reconstructed.

Abstract: Indian Literature has captured a special place in the world of literature. It has described many themes including sex, love, power, cruelty, violence etc. Violence plays a major role in almost every novel written by Indian writers in English. The use of power, physical force on other human beings or animals can be considered as violence. Violence in many forms has been used in Indian writing in English plays and drama. It is commonly described by the Indian dramatist Vijay Tendulkar in his plays in a admirable manner. He uses violence as a main tool to describe the mentality of people in his plays. One of his famous play Ghashiram Kotwal is considered as a political satire.Ghashiram, the chief of police in the city, in many places has been attacked on unimportant matters only in the place of primary assumptions. Through this play the dramatist talks about the inborn nature of a man who has violence hidden towards his friends and relatives. Whichever position he acquires, the reality is that there is an urge of violence when situations arise.
