      Abstract: COVID-19 has transformed human life and the new normal has transformed business and social practices of humans. Such changes have also affected the education sector where conventional learning is transformed to online learning and assessments have resulted in online assessments. Such transformation is not a technological shift, but it has long-term implications for all the stakeholders. To continuously improve the learning practices during this pandemic time there is a need for information exchange to foster best practices. In this paper, we have compared the students' assessment performance by conventional face-to-face learning and online learning, and we found minimum variations. Based on our approach adopted during online lectures we have proposed a model to foster effective learning during the COVID-19 period. The findings from this study will help other institutions and academics to foster a better learning environment for their students.

  • Differentiated instruction strategies and their effect on the academic
           performance of students in teachers' colleges

      Abstract: Differentiated instruction (DI) has been widely viewed as an anti-thesis of the one-size-fit-all traditional lecturing approaches. By accepting that students are by nature different, DI ensures that lecturers in teachers' colleges adjust their teaching approaches in line with the needs, interests and learning styles of students. This study therefore sought to establish and explain the strategies for implementing DI as well as establish how significantly these strategies affect the academic performance of students in teachers' colleges. A quantitative approach that used a structured questionnaire to collect data from a sample of 610 students from four teachers' colleges was used in the study. Results of the study showed that ongoing formative assessment, multi-level instruction student engagement and learning contracts have a significant influence on the academic performance of teachers' college students while flexible grouping and compacting do not have a significant influence. These results have implications on theory and practice with regards to DI strategies for teaching diverse students and their effect on the academic performance in teachers' colleges.

  • Teaching sustainability to online healthcare students: a viewpoint

      Abstract: Sustainability is an essential component of education today, as it is regarded as a global requirement in higher education. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, we have witnessed a rapid increase in healthcare student numbers within the online learning department of our university. While the importance of sustainability is recognised, how to educate this to online healthcare students remains to be discussed. Accordingly, this viewpoint paper identifies challenges regarding the integration of sustainability education and reports our attempts to address these challenges. The lack of time in the curriculum, minimal sustainability knowledge from healthcare educators, understanding of clinical relevance and consistency in curriculum planning were identified as the four key problems. To address this, at our university, sustainability content was introduced to the learning materials, academic staff increased their subject knowledge, an interdisciplinary student conference targeting sustainability was utilised, and future curriculum planning will see sustainability embedded. Informal feedback from students and staff has been positive, indicating a need for empirical investigation. Insights offered in this viewpoint can provide ideas for non-sustainability educators who wish to embed sustainability education in a feasible time and cost-effective way.

  • Factors that determine electric energy and natural gas consumption on
           college campuses

      Abstract: We determined the factors that affect monthly electric energy (in kWh) and natural gas (in therms) consumption in college or university buildings over a year. Using data from Georgian Court University in New Jersey, a series of increasingly accurate regression models was used to find the factors that impacted energy consumption. The factors utilised in the surprisingly accurate final model turned out to be average temperature, humidity, rainfall, hours of sunlight, and student population. Our model was then successfully applied to residence halls at Pomona College in southern California, a school with very different weather than Georgian Court University. This regression model can be utilised at other universities to estimate their energy and natural gas consumption. We also used this model to estimate the impact of global warming on energy consumption.

  • Understanding stakeholders' perception and awareness of India's
           National Education Policy 2020 – an exploratory study

      Abstract: The present study aims to understand stakeholders' perceptions and awareness of the National Education Policy 2020. A structured questionnaire was designed to collect the data using convenience sampling. The sample size includes 1,510 responses. Results of the chi-square analysis indicate a significant relationship between gender, occupation, educational qualification, and experience on NEP awareness, and there is a significant relationship between gender and occupation on the perception of NEP 2020. Predominantly, the stakeholders reported a positive perception of NEP 2020, and the awareness level is relatively moderate. The study recommends structured training programmes and awareness building activities by the policy implementers to enhance the positive perception and awareness of NEP 2020. This exploratory study will be beneficial for researchers and policy implementers to gain first-hand information about the perception and awareness of NEP 2020 from the stakeholder's perspective. The current study is the first in the Indian context.
