  • The Lived Experiences of Asian International Students in the U.S. Higher
           Education

    • Abstract: Asian international students have long constituted the largest portion of the international student body in the United States (U.S.), a trend that persists despite the hurdles presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. These students play an essential role in stimulating the U.S. economy, facilitating cross-cultural exchange, and nurturing international collaboration and understanding. During the 2022-2023 academic year, Asian international students comprised 70.3% of the total international student population in the U.S. higher education. The number of Asian international students in the U.S. higher education institutions is so considerable that their lived experiences within the U.S. higher education system deserves a thorough examination. Existing empirical research demonstrates that plenty of Asian international students are underserved, mainly facing culture shock, linguistic barriers, racial discrimination, and mental health issues. This systematic literature review aims to: 1. Investigate whether Asian international students face any challenges in the U.S. higher education; 2. Classify the challenges (if any) encountered by Asian international students in the U.S. higher education;3. Offer valuable insights to key stakeholders in international education, empowering them to refine current administrative policies and teaching pedagogies to best support the well-being and success of Asian international students in the U.S. higher education.

  • Factors Influencing Pre-Service Technical Teachers' Academic
           Performance: Cross-Sectional Study

    • Abstract: This research aims to identify factors predicting pre-service technical teachers’ academic performance in a technical teacher training context. This study employed a predictive correlational design. We developed the conceptual framework by combining previous research, and then created a survey to gather data. Between August 1 and August 30, 2022, 109 undergraduates from the Faculty of Technical Education at Rajamangala University of Technology Krungthep (RMUTK) received an online self-administered questionnaire. The statistical analysis employed the Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression. The findings of the research showed that there was a positive correlation between various factors such as gender, motivation and attitude towards learning, study habits, family support, curriculum quality, and teaching quality with pre-service technical teachers' academic performance, with the correlation coefficients ranged from .230 to .292 and were all statistically significant (p < 0.05). The multiple correlation coefficient (R) was .474 showed a significant relationship between the independent and dependent variables at the .05 level. The R-squared value was .225, indicating that these six variables combined explain 22.5% of the variation in academic performance. However, this also suggests that our model fails to explain around 77.5% of the variance. Some aspects of the findings derived from this study are expected to result in the creation of digital interventions to better track students' academic performance, aiming to provide equitable educational experiences that maximize the academic performance of each gender group in the future.

  • Lost in Statistics

    • Abstract: The present paper investigates one aspect of questionable research practices relating to Arabic L1 learners of foreign languages, namely the use of statistics. The objective of the paper is to argue that reproducible research requires adopting wise practices in linguistics and that the excessive focus on quantification does not seem to serve this purpose. Statistical significance tests in quantitative research are routinely used in linguistic inquiry as well as language teaching and learning studies with a view to supporting the relevant explanatory insights in linguistics. In this article, I will expose the misuse of statistics by doctoral students in English departments of Morocco working on Arabic L1 learners’ data, by highlighting some practices that are at odds with international good practices in academic research in linguistics. I will take stock of the current questionable practices in this regard to dispel some of the misunderstanding about the use of statistics which is now gaining grounds lest this becomes an orthodoxy. I will argue that research on Arabic L1 learners’ data should be focused more on exploration and discovery, as well as the validation of epistemological insights than on mere descriptive quantification geared to hypothesis verification. These areas of focus constitute the crux of academic research in linguistics, but they seem to be lost in statistics in doctoral students’ theses. Recommendations and solutions are provided for enhancing transparency and improving reproducibility of doctoral research outcomes to advance theory building and the delivery of new research lines in linguistics as well as to avoid the risk of research waste, in line with the requirements of open science.

    • Abstract: Executive function skills are crucial for children in the 21st century, serving as indicators of their readiness for learning. Children with well-developed executive function skills can effectively accomplish various tasks, solve problems using diverse strategies, and collaborate with others happily. This research aims to: 1. Identify the necessity for fostering executive function skills among early childhood students in Nonthaburi Province. 2. Analyze the causes underlying the necessity to promote executive function skills in early childhood students. 3. Propose strategies to enhance executive function skills in early childhood students. The research consists of two phases. Phase 1 involves identifying the necessity for developing executive function skills among early childhood students, with a sample group comprising 12 volunteer kindergarten teachers randomly selected from 12 classrooms and 328 early childhood students aged 5 to 5 years 11 months (162 boys and 166 girls). The research instrument used is the MU.EF-101 assessment. Data analysis involves calculating the mean and standard deviation of T-scores for working memory, inhibitory control, and shift/cognitive flexibility. Phase 2 analyzes the causes of necessity and proposes strategies to promote executive function skills in early childhood students. The data sources for this phase are 12 teachers, and the research instruments include fishbone diagram recording forms and group discussion recording forms. Findings suggest that parental involvement is crucial in training children to perform tasks independently and in teaching children patience. Additionally, teachers should analyze children's behaviors to plan appropriate learning activities based on their context. Teachers must encourage children to think and make decisions independently, encourage when mistakes occur, and ensure the availability of suitable tools and toys that promote the development of executive function skills in early childhood students, which teachers or parents can conveniently utilize.

  • The Development of English Grammar Learning Skills by Using Explicit
Teaching Method of University Students: The Case Study of Thai University
           Students

    • Abstract: In Thailand, the traditional teaching approach used for English language classes has been to explicitly teach English grammar, but in recent years the strategy has begun to shift towards the implicit teaching of language via communicative techniques. Within academic circles, there has been minimal agreement on the suitability of approaches used. Today, the question of whether it is better to use an implicit or explicit approach remains open to debate. In this study, an explicit approach is used to teach English grammar to learners in the English Program at the Faculty of Education, Lampang Rajabhat University. These learners have experienced implicit teaching during their own learning of English grammar, but upon graduation will have to use explicit methods when they become teachers of English grammar themselves. Initially, it can be observed that their knowledge of English grammar is weak. Also, they may lack the pedagogical skills to teach English grammar explicitly. The target group in this study was 74 Year 1 students. This study involved multiple steps, namely content analysis, a pre-test, explicit English grammar tutoring, a post-test and data analysis. Test results were statistically analysed for percentages, means and standard deviations. Pre- and post-test scores revealed a difference of 360, or 12.16%, with the mean of 4.87 (SD = 9.96). It can be seen that English grammar learning skills of the target group can be developed by using the explicit teaching method and this can support pre-service English teachers to teach grammar more effectively.

  • The Application of Digital Transformation in Accounting Education: A Case
Study of Internet + Technology Improving Academic Performance

    • Abstract: This study aims to evaluate the impact of the application of Internet + technology in accounting education on academic performance, with a special focus on the academic performance changes of 2022 accounting students of Ningxia Vocational and Technical College of Finance and Economics. The study adopted a quantitative analysis method to evaluate the effects of these technologies by comparing and analyzing students' scores before and after receiving Internet + technology teaching. The data was collected from the school's student status management system, covering the performance records of 124 students. SPSS software was used for data processing and analysis, and the academic performance before and after the technology application was compared through Wilcoxon signed-rank tests. The results show that the average score of students increased significantly after the application of technology, from 48.27 points to 85.40 points, indicating that Internet + technology has played a significant role in improving academic performance in accounting. This performance improvement is attributed to the flexible learning resources, enhanced interactive learning environment, and practical learning materials provided by Internet+ technology. Research also explores the potential of these technologies to improve the quality of teaching and develop students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Based on these findings, the study recommends that educators integrate Internet+ technology in accounting course design and calls for future research to expand the sample scope and use qualitative methods to gain an in-depth understanding of students' feelings and feedback on digital learning tools. Overall, this study highlights the importance of integrating digital technology into accounting education and provides empirical support and reference direction for other educational institutions to implement teaching reforms in similar fields. As technology continues to develop, the education field should continue to explore and adapt to new technologies to prepare students for the needs of the future accounting industry.

Many colleges and universities have also introduced specialized tennis courses. However, as the education system undergoes deepening reforms, the traditional teaching methods are no longer able to meet the demands of education. In light of this, we propose implementing the Two-Phase Teaching Method of "short tennis + standard tennis" in colleges and universities to cultivate students' interest in tennis, enhance the overall teaching quality of tennis, and promote its development in the academic setting.

  • Evaluating Student Satisfaction: A Small Private University Perspective in
           Japan

    • Abstract: This study investigates undergraduate student satisfaction at a small private university in Japan, focusing on factors like social environment, instructors, facilities, support, academic grit, and student engagement. Given Japan's demographic challenges and the heightened competition in higher education, understanding these factors is crucial for student retention and institutional stability. The study employs a quantitative approach, analyzing data from a sample that mirrors the university's demographic composition. Key findings reveal that instructors, facilities, and support significantly influence student satisfaction, with distinct variations observed when analyzed by gender and academic year. In contrast, grit and engagement were not statistically significant predictors; their roles in the broader educational context warrant further exploration. This study reveals actionable strategies to elevate student satisfaction at a small private Japanese university, addressing institutional, administrative, and instructional dimensions. Recommendations include upgrading facilities and enhancing the social atmosphere to foster a conducive learning environment, focusing on faculty development to improve instructional quality, and tailoring engagement strategies to meet gender-specific and year-specific needs. These measures aim to mitigate challenges like declining enrollment and student attrition by creating a more fulfilling university experience and strengthening the institution's reputation and appeal.

Participants emphasized the necessity of understanding diverse languages, cultures, histories, and geographical landscapes, highlighting their role in fostering intercultural empathy and appreciation. Moreover, the study elucidated the challenges faced in promoting global competence within the educational system, including curriculum constraints and limited opportunities for experiential learning. However, amidst these challenges, participants identified various strategies and recommendations for enhancing global competence in teacher education. These recommendations included integrating cross-cultural content into the curriculum, providing experiential learning opportunities, investing in professional development for educators, and fostering partnerships with international educational institutions. By addressing these recommendations, educators and policymakers could pave the way for a more inclusive and globally-minded educational system, equipping students with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in an interconnected world.
