  • Influence of Corruption on Nation Building in Nigeria

    • Authors: Nkiru Queen Aputazie
Abstract: Corruption is present in all parts of the world, irrespective of geographical location, economic status, or level of state development. However, corruption is dominant in some countries when compared to others, hence, this study focuses on the nature of corruption in Nigeria which due to its dominant structure affects all facets and sectors of human and state activities in the country. To provide a deepened knowledge of the effect of corruption in Nigeria, the study focuses mostly on the influence of corruption mostly conducted by elites on Nigeria’s nation-building processes, and how Nigeria continues to suffer in its attempt to establish a healthy nation-building process due to the huge presence of corruption in the country. Finally, the study focuses on the Nigerian state from 1999 (the beginning of the 4th republic) to 2021. Keywords: Corruption, Elites, Nation-building, unemployment, poverty, Nigeria, democracy.

  • International Changes in the Middle East and Their Impact on the
           Palestinian Cause

    • Authors: Salwa Farrag
Abstract: The paper seeks to examine the impact of post 2011 Arab developments on the nation-state and its repercussions on supporting the Palestinian cause' In order to answer that, the study deals with a theoretical approach to the crises of political systems, and then analyzes the nature of developments in the Arab region and its repercussions on the nation-state on the one hand, and its repercussions on the Palestinian cause on the other. It was found through the study that the Palestinian cause is affected by its Arab depth, whether before or after the revolutions. Although the Palestinian cause was not the main title of those revolutions, but it was present in the conscience of the rebellious masses. The Arab countries remained governed in this process by the duality of “the old next to the new” in light of the dilemmas and phenomena that prevailed. It seemed apparent how weak and fragile the Arab national state was towards itself and the Palestinian cause, as it was preoccupied with its internal crises that prevailed over its policies. Keywords: Arab Nations – Palestinian cause – Middle East – International Changes

  • Exploring the Social Capital Accounts for a Variation in Desistance and
Its Relative Impact on Desistance at the Louisiana State Penitentiary

    • Authors: Geraldine Doucet
Abstract: This study explores the social capital accounts for a variation in desistance and its relative impact on desistance at the Louisiana State Penitentiary. The study adopted a survey research design, binary logistic regression, and a primary data source with a sample of 144 respondents to explore the study. The primary data source comes from the Louisiana State Penitentiary based on self-reported face-to-fact survey interviews initially taken May 2007 and followed by face-to-fact interviews officially obtained data over the period of a year and eight months regarding the same sample population.  Results suggested that in the Before study, using self-reported data, there were only two social capital variables that were statistically reliable in distinguishing desistance among inmates. These variables were relationship with mother, which had the most predictive power regarding desistance process, followed by the who raised the inmate variable. The strongest of all variables in this study was the punishment adjustment, in particularly the psychological coping one. Keywords:Offenders, Age, Demographics, Desistance, Delinquents, Crime, Juvenile, Punishment, Incarceration, Offenders, and Justice system.

  • The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), An Obsolete Security
Institution or A Group of Self-Seeking Elitists: Re-thinking Reform

    • Authors: Felix Nana Kofi Ofori
Abstract: This article argues that elitist tendencies in NATO’s leadership coupled with the support of its leading states, induced it to commit humanitarian catastrophes in parts of Europe and Middle East. These mundane policies portray NATO as an entity with blunt strategic vision to protect the security needs of its member states in the 21st century. Similarly, the article contends that, although NATO has played a formidable role in stemming proliferation of nuclear arms and stability of the Euro-Atlantic area, some evidence suggest that the entity has outlived its usefulness. Finally, the article recommends that NATO should divest from its military expeditions in order to acquire new expertise in cyber technology; so as, to remain relevant to the international community thereby contributing towards the stability of the transatlantic project. Keywords: geo-political, strategy, elitism, security, self- interests, obsolete and reform
