No obstante, en materia de política inmigratoria, en la UE se ha avanzado más en materia de gestión y control de flujos que en materia de justicia en el trato justo a los inmigrantes, y el resultado ha sido una política restrictiva en cuanto a entrada y permanencia de extranjeros de terceros países. Pero lo que se ha puesto de manifiesto son graves diferencias en el seno de la UE a la hora de abordar el tratamiento de los inmigrantes, y, en especial, de los solicitantes de asilo y protección internacional. Los atentados terroristas y la crisis económica han acentuado las distintas posiciones de los Estados miembro.Through a long process, the EU has sought to create a “common policy on migration”, which fits into the purpose of making Europe a common space of freedom, security and justice. However, on immigration policy, the EU has advanced more in respect of management and control of flows in justice in dealing just immigrants, and the result has been a restrictive policy on entry and sojourn of foreigners from third countries. But what has been revealed are serious differences within the EU in dealing with the treatment of immigrants, and, in particular, of applicants for asylum and international protection. No obstante, se ponen de manifiesto otras causas de la crisis por la que atraviesa la Unión, que deben afrontarse de modo decidido para evitar el final del sueño europeo.In this paper the author argues that the departure of the United Kingdom from the European Union can have very positive effects for the European construction, as the state that has systematically hindered it disappears from the scene.
