  • Cross-cultural communication barriers to managing workforce diversity in
           multicultural organisations

      Authors: Kirti Rajhans, Amit Hiray
      Pages: 81 - 101
Abstract: Due to the globalisation, large organisations in almost all sectors today have become multicultural and multidisciplinary. This calls for the need to identify and address the emerging barriers to cross-cultural communication which may hinder effective management of workforce. As the workforce is becoming increasingly global and culturally diverse, efficiency in interpersonal and intercultural communication is imperative for effective team performance and success. The objective of the paper is to identify the critical cross-cultural communication barriers (CCCB) in managing workforce diversity at multicultural organisations. The study also further examines the impact of these CCCBs on the team performance at multicultural organisations and based on the results, proposes a cross-cultural communication framework which could be adopted by multicultural organisations in India and all other countries where similar situations prevail.

  • Turnaround in hectic times: the influence of CEO attributes under
           different market conditions

      Authors: Lars Schweizer, Andreas Nienhaus
      Pages: 102 - 134
Abstract: Dismissing the CEO is a common turnaround move when coping with financial distress. However, the beneficial effect on firm survival remains largely unproven. By applying the fit/misfit logic of Chen and Hambrick (2012) for executives in distressed firms, we show that a manager's personal attributes (in our study CEO-founder-duality and CEO-chairman-duality) have a greater influence on turnaround than firing the CEO per se. By developing a split sample of different contextual settings, the influence of CEO attributes on survival success in company inherent crises is compared to the influence in exogenously induced market shocks. Results based on 168 distressed firms demonstrate the impact of CEO and firm characteristics on turnaround success. We find that during exogenously induced distress, CEO-founder-duality is negatively related to firm survival. However, company size and market expectations increase turnaround chances. In contrast, in company inherent crises, CEO-chairman-duality is positively related to survival. Our findings contribute to the field of corporate turnaround research by extending the fit/ misfit theory to executives with function duality and accounting for severe market changes.

  • Internet technology resources and financial performance by considering the
           moderating role of human capital

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of information technology resources on the financial performance of the stock exchange organisation considering the moderator role of human capital. The data collection tool was a standard questionnaire, which was used for codifying, library and field studies. To measure IT resources, the dimensions of infrastructure resources, human resources and communication resources were used. The statistical population of this study is 108 senior managers and middle managers from eight information technology companies affiliated with the stock exchange organisation, and by using the Cochran sample size formula, 85 individuals are selected as the statistical samples. Sampling method was simple random. The results indicate the significant impact of IT resources and its dimensions on financial performance, while human capital also modifies the impact of IT resources on financial performance.

  • Service quality and customer delight: considering the mediating role
           of satisfaction and loyalty

Authors: Ali Nazeri, Seyed Mohamad Mehdi Kazemi, Rozita Shahriyari, Maryam Jalali, Sadaf Roshani, Anita Motakiani

Abstract: The main purpose of this research is to study the impact of service quality on customer delight while considering the mediating role of satisfaction and loyalty in Iran-Khodro Company. Nowadays, the role of the customer is obvious for saving the market share and development and improvement of the organisation. Therefore, studies on topics related to 'service quality as happiness', satisfaction and customer loyalty are necessary in order to serve the customer and provide an increasing customer base for companies and organisations in Iran, which is a developing country. The data gathered from a sample of 400 customers of Iran Khodro Company services revealed that the average score for service quality has low score and it is lower than 3 for customer delight, satisfaction and loyalty. The low score maybe due to one or more of the following factors - high price, inappropriate quality, weak responsiveness, poor after-sale services, etc. typically, there is a significant and direct relationship between service quality and customer's delight, satisfaction and loyalty.
