  • Parental leave policies and issues: is Canada there yet?

      Abstract: While paternity leave popularity is increasing in Canada and other countries worldwide, Canada still lags behind many European nations in terms of its parental leave policies. Women tend to make use of maternity leave whereas male employees do not fully utilise their paternal leave entitlements. Our paper takes a look at current Canadian parental policy and compares it to some Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) counterparts. We use Sweden as a benchmark in this study. The paper concludes and recommends parental leave policies to be extended and improved upon because such improvements are directly tied to a decrease in infant mortality, an increase in overall child health and economic advantages such as lower healthcare costs.

  • Consumer ethnocentrism, status and consumption behaviour: evidence from a
           communist governed state in a transitional economy

      Abstract: Seeking status and national symbols during consumption is an established phenomenon for the consumers of developed nations. The role of these constructs in consumption behaviour for transitional economies needs more empirical evidence. This research is an attempt to assess the role that consumer ethnocentrism (CET) and status consumption (SC) play in consumption behaviour in the context of a transitional economy (India) while limiting to a state under more than two decades of continuous communist governance (Tripura). The study indicates that age and level of educational attainment are the significant demographic predictors for CET, whereas age, income level and generational cohorts are for SC. A negative association between CET and SC is also confirmed. In the case of the roles of SC and CET on consumption behaviour, a mixed association is obtained.

  • An empirical research on quality of work-life - an employee
           perspective

      Abstract: The main purpose of the study is to understand the degree to which the quality of work-life of employees at the organisation helps in turn reflecting terms of satisfaction and improving their organisational effectiveness. Owing to the drastic changes in the technology and intensified global competition has changed the work-pressure of employees at workplace. In the modern times, the topic on quality of work-life has received ample attention among the employer perspective. In order to retain the talented and skilled employees at work, organisations need to focus their attention towards in bringing a balance between work-life and personal life among the employees. The underlying concept of work-life balance will help ultimately in ensuring quality of worklife of employees at workplace. Convenient sampling method was adopted for the study. Out of 300 working employees in Kelly Services, India, a proportionate allocation of 10% was chosen as respondents and interviewed in Kelly Services, Hyderabad. The study result shows a relationship between variables on satisfaction level of employees.
