  • Does Gender Inequality Lead to Income Inequality' Evidence From
           Indonesia

    • Authors: Lilis Siti Badriah, Istiqomah Istiqomah
      Pages: 1 - 13
Abstract: The study purpose is to analyze the effect of gender inequality in education, health, and labor force participation on income inequality in Indonesia.  Data from 33 provinces in Indonesia during 2011-2018 were analyzed with panel data regression. The results show that gender inequality in education and labor force participation has a negative and significant effect on income inequality. However,  gender inequality in life expectancy does not affect income inequality. The implications are the government should provide free education in poor regions such as by providing a larger allocation of scholarship funds  and create employment programs to reduce education as well as income inequality, government. In this case, the government can expand community empowerment programs accompanied by intensive and sustainable assistance  and private sector should open the widest possible job opportunities without gender discrimination. This research contributes to development economics, particularly regarding the problem of gender inequality and income inequality  where it is found that income inequality is influenced by the occurrence of gender inequality both in terms of education and work participation. Previous studies have examined the relationship between gender inequality and economic growth, while this study analyzes the relationship between gender inequality and income inequality based on provincial data in Indonesia. Apart from gender inequality, this study also analyzes two control variables: government capital expenditure and income per capita.

  • The Role of Electronic Worth of Mouth in Mediating TikTok Social Media
Toward The Organizational Image of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo

    • Authors: Eka Destriyanto Pristi A., Fery Setiawan, Titis Purwaningrum
      Pages: 14 - 22
Abstract: The use of social media as a new medium in marketing has been considered quite effective. The users obtain plenty of marketing benefits through social media. TikTok social media has been recently famous amidst the society. This social media with a short video has the advantages to draw the attention of the viewers. The use of social media in marketing creates comments in the form of E-WOM which enables it to impact the image of an organization or company. This research uses a quantitative research method, taking 100 members of the campus tour of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo in 2021 as the sample. The marketing strategy using social media is executed by the technical implementation unit  of the new student admissions of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo by creating a short video uploaded in its Instagram account. The organizational image becomes a dependent variable of this research which will be tested by the use of TikTok as an independent variable and E-WOM as a mediator variable. The result of this research shows that E-WOM has a positive influence in mediating the impact of TikTok use toward the organizational image of Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo.

  • Poverty Rates and The Factors Influencing Poverty Alleviation: A Case
Study in The Province of West Kalimantan, Indonesia

    • Authors: Akhmad Yani, Restiatun Restiatun, Romi Suradi
      Pages: 23 - 39
Abstract: There is a trend of decreasing the poverty rate in Indonesia. But in the Province of West Kalimantan, there are still five districts with poverty rates that are above the average national rate, namely Melawi, Landak, Ketapang, Sintang, and North Kayong districts. The purpose of this study is to estimate the relationship between government transfers which are proxied by the amount of GAT (General Allocation Transfer) Funds, economic growth, and the quality of human resources in terms of education and health which are proxied by the average years of schooling and public-health insurance membership. Once these factors can be identified, it is hoped that the government will find it easier to reduce poverty levels. Based on Nested Test, model that passes the goodness of fit test is The Common Effect model so this model is used in estimating and interpreting in this research. It shows that there is no difference in the behavior of the research variables, either between time or between individuals. The findings of this study that the economic growth variable is not significant in reducing the poverty level, the variable of literacy level have a significantly negative effect on the poverty level, the variable of public-health insurance membership has significantly positive on the poverty level, and the central government transfer variable proxied by GAT has significantly positive effect significant to the poverty level.

  • Household Saving Behavior on Formal Financial Institutions in Urban and
           Rural Areas

    • Authors: Muhammad Maftuhin, Deni Kusumawardani
      Pages: 40 - 53
Abstract: This research aimed to examine the household saving behavior on formal financial institutions in urban and rural areas. The data sources of this research from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), namely the 2018 Indonesia national socio-economic survey (SUSENAS) and the 2018 Indonesia village potential survey (PODES).The research sampleswere 126 539 households in urban and 168 562 households in rural spread over 34 provinces in Indonesia. The analytical method used logistic regression to determine the household behavior in the savings ownership in a formal bank institution.Several factors that affect savings ownership included socio-demographic and institutional factors. The estimation results showed that all socio-demographic factors affected savings ownership in urban, while institutional factors, namely government bank and private banks did not have a significant effect. Otherwise, institutional factors had a significant effect on savings ownership in rural, while socio-demographic factors (house ownership) did not havea significant effect. The findings were very important to improve saving behavior and provide alternative policies related to banking infrastructure development in Indonesia.

  • Total Factor Productivity Calculation of The Indonesian Micro and Small
           Scale Manufacturing Industry

    • Authors: Endang Rostiana, Horas Djulius, Gugum Mukdas Sudarjah
      Pages: 54 - 63
Abstract: The purpose of this research is to determine the total factor productivity (TFP) of Indonesia's micro and small-scale manufacturing industries. The production function estimation approach established by Levinsohn-Petrin as the basis for computing TFP is employed in this study, with value added as the dependent variable and the value of labor costs and capital value proxied by the value of investment as the independent variables. This study uses secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), which includes 23 sub-sectors of Indonesia's micro and small scale manufacturing industries that are included in the 2-digit ISIC, with the exception of the ISIC code 19 sub-sector, and covers the years 2010 to 2019, excluding 2016. The TFP value in the micro-scale Indonesian manufacturing industry was often higher than the TFP value on the small scale, according to this study. This research also demonstrates that low-tech sub-sectors, such as the food processing industry, have low productivity. On a small size, the estimated TFP value shows a decreasing trend, but on a micro scale, the estimated TFP value indicates an increasing trend.

  • Designing MSMEs Strategies to Survive in The New Normal Era With A
           SWOT-TOPSIS Approach

    • Authors: Masayu Rosyidah
      Pages: 64 - 76
Abstract: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on various sectors such as the healthcare system, tourism, trade, industry and economy sector especially on the economic activities of MSMEs. MSMEs are very vulnerable to being affected by business disruptions, because they are indirectly related to sectors affected by the pandemic such as the tourism sector, transportation to the culinary industry. However, in this COVID-19 pandemic, MSMEs lack of resilience and flexibility due to several things, such as the low level of digitalization, difficulties in accessing technology and a lack of understanding strategies to survive in business. So to overcome this challenge, MSMEs need to make accurate plans and strategies, so that companies can find out their strengths and weaknesses as well as opportunities and threats.SWOT analysis is used to obtain information derived from the analysis of the company's internal and external environmental situations. This analysis is needed to help develop MSMEs in recognizing their strengths and weaknesses as well as taking advantage of every existing opportunity and avoiding or minimizing threats in market competition. This research uses SWOT and TOPSIS analysis methods. SWOT analysis begins by weighting and ranking internal factors and external factors of MSMEs. The TOPSIS method is used to sort priorities from alternatives to the selected strategy. The results show that alternative strategies that can be applied are to create innovative new products, expand sales areas, increase promotions, turn business processes digital by using existing online platforms and expanding sales areas.

  • Creative Economic Subsector Mapping in Central Bangka District and its
           Resistance in the Covid-19 Pandemic

    • Authors: I Gede Wyana Lokantara, Dessy Mayasari, Farisa Maulinam Amo
      Pages: 77 - 90
Abstract: The Covid-19 pandemic has harmed the sustainability of economic activities in Indonesia. Central Bangka Regency, the Covid-19 pandemic, has also harmed business actors. The purpose of this study was to analyze the mapping of the creative economy sub-sector in Central Bangka Regency and its survival during the Covid-19 pandemic.  This study uses a mixed-method analysis approach. Quantitatively, this analysis uses linear regression analysis to identify the influence of government policies on the survival of creative economy businesses during the pandemic. Qualitative analysis is carried out by identifying data on the distribution of the creative economy that still persists during the pandemic and the factors that influence it both internally and externally using the Quantitative Strategic Planning Matrix (QSPM). The results of the analysis obtained are the weighted IFE value of 2.350 and the weighted EFE value of 2.756 which can be plotted in the Internal-External matrix. This shows that the creative economy business in Central Bangka Regency is currently in a period of growth because it previously experienced a reduction in production and distribution during the Covid-19 Pandemic. Meanwhile, based on the results of the QSPM analysis, the main strategy that must be carried out during this pandemic is to strengthen promotions using the digital marketing concept. Meanwhile, based on the results of linear regression analysis, it was found that there was a positive relationship between the survival of the creative economy business during the pandemic and the creative economy management program in the Central Bangka Regency.

  • Global Crisis and Economic Fundamentals: Its Impact on Foreign Direct
           Investment in ASEAN Countries

    • Authors: Idah Zuhroh, Harpiyansa Harpiyansa
      Pages: 91 - 101
Abstract: Foreign direct investment has an important role in the running of a country's economy. This study aims to analyze the role of macroeconomic fundamentals consisting of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), interest rates, exchange rates, and exports in influencing Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the ASEAN 6 region (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, and Vietnamese). The data used are from 1990-2019 sourced from the World Bank and UNCTAD. The method used is panel data regression and time series with the best model selection, namely the Random Effect Model. The results of panel data analysis show that GDP, interest rates, exchange rates, and exports are the determinants of FDI in ASEAN 6 with a significant probability value. The positive direction coefficient is indicated by the GDP and exchange rate variables, while interest rates and exports indicate a negative direction coefficient. The results of the time-series data confirm that each country has similar results in the panel data analysis, but interest rates in Malaysia have the largest negative effect on FDI in Malaysia. Meanwhile, the exchange rate and exports contributed positively with the largest coefficient for Indonesia. The 1998 and 2008 economic crises were also found to have a negative impact on FDI but not significantly in some countries.
