  • An integrated approach for analysis of essential factors of a resilient
           supply chain

      Abstract: Resilience is the ability to sustain and evolve in uncertainty and potential disruptions. The building of the resilient supply chain is a long term continuous process that involves the identification and implementation of factors responsible for nurturing the resilience ability. In this research work, we identify the resilient supply chain factors and analyse it through a structural modelling approach. The prominence-causal diagram and Matrice d'Impacts croises-multiplication applique and classment (MICMAC) analysis reveal that factors belong to two broad categories, i.e., influential and influenced groups. Further, the hierarchical structure suggests that 'developing the risk management culture' in the supply chain is the most crucial factor for a resilient supply chain. This research work will help the academicians and decision-makers to understand the significant factors of a resilient supply chain and help the managers in the allocation of the available resources suitably to improve specific resilience dimensions or capability.

  • Transforming product labels using digital technologies to enable enhanced
           traceability and management of hazardous chemicals

      Abstract: Manufacturer that produce, distribute or market physical products are likely to be impacted by numerous chemical and product regulations. Manufacturers must identify chemical substances which appear within mixtures, materials, formulations, raw materials, components, assemblies and finished products. This results in a very manual and resource intensive process of collection of chemical substances in products data, where definitions arise from internal, industry standards, supplier and customer requirements and often sourced from multiple supply chain actors. This paper contributes to existing literature by identifying a research gap in transforming current manual state data collection tasks via the utilisation of digital technologies, leveraging real-time data collection using smart labels to identify chemicals contained within products. The proposed design enables manufacturers to identify the use of chemicals consumed in a automated manner and enabling appropriate risks to be identified and managed accordingly. The design can be further expanded in the proposed collaborative data sharing network.

  • Multi-objective supplier selection with the new hybrid COAW method

      Abstract: With the intensification of the global competition scene, the need for flexibility and appropriate response of manufacturing and industrial companies to gain and maintain their position has been enormously increased. Using a concept called supply chain management, a theory was created that selecting the appropriate supplier and managing it is an effective tool as well as a strategic decision. Supplier selection is a multi-objective problem that depends on many criteria such as delivery time, cost, quality, the rate of defective goods received, reliability, etc. In this paper, a new hybrid algorithm called COAW is presented and used to solve the problem of selecting a multi-objective supplier with the purpose of minimising the cost and rate of defective goods received from the supplier. The COAW method is a combination of the cuckoo optimisation algorithm and the simple additive weighting method, and with the help of this combined approach, the cuckoo optimisation algorithm will be able to solve multi-objective optimisation problems. After implementing the COAW method and comparing it with the similar method, the results show the optimal performance of the proposed algorithm in creating the Pareto frontier of the problem.

  • Sustainable system for supply chain management in the Malaysian
           manufacturing industries: a review and research direction

      Abstract: Management teams across the industry have made significant improvements in innovative supply chain infrastructure and processes, and their facilities and products have since been significantly improved in several instances. Therefore, each of these businesses has progressed well past simple marginal improvements. Nevertheless, it is essential to be able to function smoothly through deeper connections across the whole supply chain path. It is crucial to combine the market operations, resources, and expertise to accomplish the business performance across the different channel participants in a win-win situation. A total of 77 articles were actively reviewed, including 50 Scopus journals and 27 conference papers spanning from years of publication 2003 to 2020. The implementation of sustainable supply chain management (SSCM) is a fundamental enabler that may drive businesses to concentrate on addressing environmental challenges and administering social and economic gains. Implementation reveals that this principle helps enterprises to obtain improved production, reduced operational costs and lower inventories. Therefore, this research intends to explain the scope of sustainable supply chain activities and introduce a sustainable supply chain management framework that can improve Malaysian manufacturing industries.
