  • Oil Price Fluctuation and Their Impact on Indonesia Manufacturing Industry

    • Authors: cholida ana nia, Jaka Aminata
      Pages: 14 - 36
Abstract: This study analyzes the effect of crude oil price fluctuations using the model approach of Fukunaga et al (2009) where crude oil price fluctuations are influenced by several components such as oil supply shocks, global demand shocks, and oil-specific demand shocks. Then analyze the effect of each component on the aggregate industry production index, food, beverage and tobacco industry production index, chemical and goods from chemical raw materials, petroleum, rubber and plastic industry production index, metal, non-machinery and equipment production index. The research method is VAR in difference and the analysis methods are Granger causality test, Impulse Response Function (IRF), and Forecast Error Variance Decomposition (FEVD). Global demand shocks and oil-specific demand shocks have a significant and positive effect on crude oil prices, while oil supply shocks have no significant effect. Oil-specific demand shocks have a significant effect on aggregate industry production index variables, while oil supply shocks and global demand shocks have no significant effect. The decomposition variables of oil price fluctuations, namely oil supply shocks, global demand shocks, oil-specific demand shocks, have no significant effect on the food, beverage and tobacco industry production index chemical and goods from chemical raw materials, petroleum, rubber and plastic industry production index, metal, non-machinery and equipment production index of metal, non-machinery and equipment.

  • Women Support Women: How Coastal Women in Demak Step Out from Poverty

    • Authors: Diandra Masayu Nastabilla, Raihan Yogi Prakoso, Raihan Yahya Alhafizh
      Pages: 37 - 46
Abstract: According to research carried out by the Central Java provincial government in 2019, there are 13,415 poor people in the Demak Regency coastal area, where most people are fishers. The unstable income and the tendency of a consumer lifestyle followed by the weakness in money management are the main factors of poverty. Moreover, the covid-19 pandemic also aggravated the poverty of the coastal communities of the Demak Regency. Unfortunately for the coastal communities of the Demak Regency, the role of women is less significant because of the dominance of roles and cultural trends of patriarchy by men. Based on this, the coastal women there initiated a Women Support Women movement. This study used qualitative descriptive methods and a series of interviews and observations in its data retrieval. This study focused on identifying the form of the movement and explaining the impact on coastal women in Demak Regency to break out of the cycle of poverty and patriarchal culture. The results showed that the Women Support Women movement consists of individuals to the community, community to individuals, and community to community. There are three main actors in this movement: Forum Demak Hijau, Puspita Bahari, and Mrs. Pasijah. With this movement, coastal women in Demak Regency are proven to be able to contribute financially to their families, decreasing the patriarchal culture, and creating a trickle-down effect on others.

  • The Effect of HDI and Macroeconomic Variables on Economic Growth in
           Indonesia 2015-2020

    • Authors: Riky Soleman, Hedi Ebiyeska, Muhammad Ghafur Wibowo, Basaria Nainggolan
      Pages: 63 - 74
Abstract: The Human Development Index (HDI) measures the achievement of human development based on several basic components of quality of life. HDI is built through a basic three-dimensional approach to measure the quality of life. These dimensions include life expectancy and health, knowledge, and a decent life. Stable inflation is a prerequisite for the realization of economic growth and social welfare. Different economic conditions and natural conditions make inflation between regions in Indonesia varied. This study aims to examine HDI, inflation, investment and labor on Indonesia’s economic growth. The data source used in the form of panel data that obtained from the Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) for the 2015-2020 period. Using panel regression data with the Common Effect Model (CEM), Fixed Effect Model (FEM), and Random Effect Model (REM) approach processed with E-Views 10. The results of this study indicate that the estimated model chosen in this study is Fixed Effect Models (FEM). The partial test shows that the HDI, CPI, and INV variables have a significant positive effect on economic growth. In contrast, the probability value of labor (L) does not have a significant effect on economic growth. Meanwhile, in the simultaneous test, the F-statistic probability value is 0.000000 < 0.05, which means that the four independent variables simultaneously affect economic growth. Furthermore, the Adjusted R-Square value is 0.0994749, which means 99% of the HDI, CPI, INV, and L variables in this study can explain the variation of economic growth variables. While the remaining 1% is explained by other variables outside the model.

  • The Influence of the Covid-19 Pandemic on Economic Growth Convergence at
the District/City Level in East Java: What Is the Right Public Policy'

    • Authors: Mohammad Ichsan Verianto, Muhammad Nur Faiq, Aisyah Tarassyta
      Pages: 75 - 84
Abstract: Indonesia has experienced relatively significant and stable economic growth in the last decade. However, Indonesia, a developing country, is still vulnerable to income disparities between regions or regions. It is due to the unequal distribution of natural resources, population, and development concentration. This study aims to examine the effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on the convergence of economic growth in East Java Province. In this study, per capita Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) data or secondary data with panel type is used which is accessed from the annual report of the Central Statistics Agency in each district or city in East Java for the period 2010 to 2020. By using the -convergence analysis technique and -convergence and considering the spatial dependence between regions, the researchers found no substantial evidence of the occurrence of regional income convergence in East Java. There has been a divergence in regional income before and after the pandemic. But with a more significant divergence coefficient before the pandemic, it means that the existence of a pandemic has reduced the level of divergence even though the catch-up effect is negligible on economic growth. In general, this means a decrease in income inequality due to the pandemic, as rich regions are affected more than poor regions. So that public policy recommendations are needed, especially after the pandemic, through recovery that focuses on improving the economic sector in the affected affluent areas such as Surabaya and others.

  • The Effect of Remittance on Consumption and Household Assets in Indonesia

    • Authors: Alif Dewi Cahyanti, Lilik Sugiharti
      Pages: 85 - 100
Abstract: International migration is the process of moving people from one country to another. There is a close relationship between migration and consumption behavior. Migration can be considered as an alternative to improve consumption patterns. The impact of international migration is quite large for the area of origin, one of which is the flow of remittances for the area of origin. Remittance also increases the welfare of recipient households that can increase their income and consumption. This study uses panel data sourced from Indonesian Family life Survey (IFLS) 4 and 5 in 2007 and 2014. using the Ordinary Least Square (OLS) method. results show Ordinary Least Square (OLS) that remittances are significant and have a positive relationship with food consumption, non-food and total food and ownership of assets

  • Analysis of The Effect of Market Structure and Firm’s Conduct on The
Financial Performance of Cigarette Companies in Indonesia 2010-2019 Period
(Case Study on Cigarette Companies Listed on The Indonesia Stock Exchange)

    • Authors: Ikhlasul Reza Pramono
      Pages: 101 - 115
Abstract: The cigarette industry sector is the leading actor of the most significant excise contributor. The potential of this industry experiences several obstacles that cause issues due to the policies set by the Government to maintain public health. These government policies generally affect a firm’s profitability due to the changing in market structure and the firm’s behavior. In knowing its effect on profitability in more depth, the structure-conduct-performance (SCP) paradigm can be applied in this case. This paradigm emphasizes that changes in market structure and a firm’s conduct could later affect the firm’s financial performance. Based on this statement, this study aims to analyze the market structure and firm’s behavior on the financial performance of cigarette companies listed on the IDX (Indonesian Stock Exchange) during the 2010-2019 period. The independent variables used in this study are the Market Share (MS) and Concentration Ratio (CR4) variables as proxies for the market structure, and the Advertisement to Sales Ratio (ASR) and Capital to Labor Ratio (CLR) variables as proxies for the firm’s conduct. The dependent variable used is the firm’s financial performance proxied by the Return on Assets (ROA) variable. The analytical method used is the fixed effect model (FEM). FEM select as the analytical method based on the results of the Chow test. The research results in the regression analysis show that the industrial structure proxied by the Market Share (MS) variable has a positive and significant effect on the Return on Assets (ROA) variable. In contrast, the Concentration Ratio (CR4) variable has a negative and significant impact on the Return on Assets (ROA) variable. In contrast, the conduct of the firms, which is proxied by the Advertisement to Sales Ratio (ASR) and Capital to Labor Ratio (CLR) variables, has an insignificant effect on the Return on Assets (ROA) variable.

  • The Effect of Inflation, Exchange Rate, Labor and Money Supply on The
Manufacturing Industry Sector in Indonesia 2011 – 2020

    • Authors: Faizal Amri
      Pages: 116 - 131
Abstract: The manufacturing industry is the main supporting sector for the economy, considering its enormous contribution to Indonesia’s national GDP compared to other sectors. However, the economic problems lately have resulted in a decline in Indonesia’s economic conditions, which is marked by a reduction in national GDP and a decrease in the output of the Indonesian manufacturing industry sector. Thus, this study aims to analyze the effect of the complex variables in the current economy, namely inflation, exchange rates, labor, and the money supply, on the manufacturing industry sector in Indonesia in the long and short term. This study uses the ECM (error correction model) method in empirical testing. The data used is secondary time series data (quarterly) starting from 2011:Q1 – 2020:Q4; the data obtained comes from the Central Statistics Agency, Bank Indonesia, and the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia. This study uses the Eviews10 application as an analytical tool. The analysis results conducted in this study show that the exchange rate and labor have a positive and significant influence on the manufacturing industry sector in the long and short term. The money supply has a positive and significant effect on the manufacturing industry sector in the long term only. Meanwhile, inflation has a negative but not significant effect both in the long term and short term. Of these critical variables, labor has the most crucial influence on the manufacturing industry sector. Therefore, the government needs to pay attention to policies related to labor as the main factor in increasing the output of the manufacturing industry.

  • Determinants of Electricity Consumption in Indonesia

    • Authors: Shannay Ayasyifa
      Pages: 132 - 143
Abstract: Electrical energy is one energy source that plays an essential role in human life daily, such as industrial, commercial, government, and household activities. All processes related to public activities can dash effectively and efficiently with electricity. The electricity consumption in Indonesia has reportedly increased every year. This enhancement can be caused by several factors, one of which is the population. The increasing electricity consumption in Indonesia has shown that electricity is the primary driving sector for the development that supports productivity and public activities. It is hoped that the economy will also increase. Based on this statement, this study aimed to analyze the factors which affect electricity consumption in Indonesia during the 2015 – 2019 period. This study used secondary data by taking four independent variables, including GDRP per capita, population, installed power capacity, and electricity tariffs. The dependent variable used in this study is electricity consumption. The research used the estimation technique of the Fixed Effect Model, which was selected based on the result of the Chow Test. The results in the regression analysis showed that the GDRP per capita and population variable both resulted in positive and insignificant effects on the electricity consumption in Indonesia during the 2015 – 2019 period. The installed power capacity variable had a positive and significant influence on the electricity consumption in Indonesia during the 2015 – 2019 period. Meanwhile, the electricity rate variable had a negative and insignificant effect on the electricity consumption in Indonesia during the 2015 – 2019 period.
