  • A Case Study for Determining the Hazard Classes of Economical Activities
           Using Artificial Intelligence

      Abstract: In our country, the concept of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) gained more importance with the enactment of the OHS Law No. 6331 in 2012. Constituting the general framework the law was supported by regulations and duties, authorities and responsibilities of relevant parties were tried to be placed on a standard basis. In this regard, the structure is generally built on the number of employees and hazard class of the workplace. Determination of hazard classification of economic activities is based on the decision of a commission formed by various public institutions and social partners according to the experience and opinions of members and statistics of the Social Security Institution. In this sense, it is beneficial to perform hazard classification based on a different perspective and a study using artificial neural networks, one of the artificial intelligence methods, was carried out. Results were compared with the current classification and evaluated accordingly.

  • The Effects of Covid-19 Health Crisis and 2008 Global Financial Crisis on
           Labor Markets: A Comparative Analysis by Income Groups of Countries

      Abstract: This study investigates the Covid-19 Health Crisis and the 2008 Global Financial Crisis effects on the labour markets of high-income countries (HICs) and middle- and low-income countries (M-LICs). As a result of the research, it has been determined that crises have different effects on country groups. In study determined two crises have different effects on country groups. The main reasons for the different effects of the Covid-19 Health Crisis to country groups are; a- Labour mobility reduction due to Covid-19 public health interventions, b- There are fewer sectors that can adapt to remote work in M-LICs production structure, c- SME intensive production structure of M-LICs. The study is a leading source in the literature that reveals the impact of the Covid-19 Health Crisis and the 2008 Global Financial Crisis on the labour markets of HICs and M-LICs.

  • Proposal for an Occupational Health and Safety Management System Model for
           Public Institutions

      Abstract: According to the statistics of the Social Security Institution (SSI) in November 2021, there are about 18 million private and 3 million public employees in Turkey. Public institutions and employees have also been included in the scope of OHS regulations by Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Law No. 6331. However, after 10 years the enforcement date of the Law, the obligations imposed on public institutions by Law haven’t still been met. An important reasons is that the obligation to appoint OHS professionals supposed to provide guidance and advice to fulfill obligations of the Law and in OHS practices is constantly postponed. Due to the lack of technical knowledge, background and experience of public managers on OHS practices, OHS culture hasn’t yet been formed. So, support is needed to fulfill the requirements of the Law. To meet this need, Proposal for an OHS Management System Model for Public Institutions prepared based on international standards guiding public managers.

  • Examining the Relationship Between Career Stress and Uncertainty
           Avoidance: A Study on Insurance and Social Security Department Students

      Abstract: The negative effects of stress on people are increasing day by day in the modern world we live in. Career choice also affects individuals as a source of stress. Situations where uncertainty is experienced can have the effect of increasing this stress even more. It is thought that individuals who avoid uncertainty are more likely to experience career stress. From this point of view, the effect of uncertainty avoidance on career stress was examined in this study. In the study, in which the quantitative research method was used, a sample of 234 students from Düzce University Insurance and Social Security Department was formed by convenience sampling. Questionnaire was used as data collection tool. The data were analyzed using the SPSS23 program. As a result of the research, it was seen that the university students in the sample were not very high in career stress and they experienced moderate career stress. The biggest source of career stress is the pressure felt in terms of finding a job and the difficulties that are thought to be experienced in finding a job. The uncertainty avoidance tendency of the participants is slightly above the middle and the uncertainty avoidance tendency affects career stress. Uncertainty avoidance is a variable that has a decisive effect on the job pressure dimension of career stress.
