      Abstract: Studies about nutritional requirements of animals are important, among other reasons, in order to have an adequate knowledge of the essential levels of minerals added in feed, and thus, to produce it efficiently, to avoid elimination of minerals through feces and urine and prevent intoxication of the animal due to excess of a certain nutrient. The data used for the study are related to Zinc (Zn) content, in ppm, in the broilers’ tibia that received the same feed with nine different dosages of zinc. The quadratic segmented regression model with response plateau and the nonlinear segmented regression model with response plateau were fitted to data, using a bayesian approach and considering cases of homogeneity and heterogeneity of variances. The fitted models considering heterogeneity of variances were more appropriate for the data, according to the DIC fit criterion.

      Abstract: Missing data are common in multi-environmental experiments however sophisticated they are. Thus, it is essential to use appropriate methods of analysis to reduce the impact generated by the loss of information. Data imputation consists in one of the most common techniques used to overcome the problem of missing values, it estimates missing data by plausible values; subsequently, the analyses are carried out on the complete data. This work aims to propose a new multiple imputation method for data from multi-environment trials, resulting from the proposal based on the simple residuals of a linear regression model. Alterations were made in the simple imputation algorithm EM-AMMI to accommodate the additive main effect and generalized multiplicative interaction GAMMI. The quality of the multiple imputations method was evaluated by using accurate general statistics distributions, which combines the variance among imputation and mean square deviation, and normalized root mean square error (NRMSE). For such, simulations of random values at levels of 10%, 20%, 30% and up to 40% were performed from two real data set and the obtained corresponding imputations. The overall mean accuracy and NRMSE results, given the low values obtained, considering the proposed method, demonstrate the high quality of the proposed multiple imputation algorithm MIGAMMI.

      Abstract: In this paper we introduce the distribution of three parameters, called Beta Chi-square distribution (BCHI), is presented and contains the Chi-square distribution as a sub-model. Its density function can be expressed as a linear combination of Chi-square density function. Some structural properties of this distribution, how moments, and hazard function are presented. Estimates of the model parameters are performed using the Maximum Likelihood method. We obtain the observed information matrix and discuss inference methods. In order to demonstrate the utility of the distribution, a real data set is analyzed.

      Abstract: There is a growing need to improve end-of-life care in cancer patients and to evaluate it through questionnaires is an important tool to assess its results. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the palliative care in the quality of life, distressing symptoms and functional capacity of patients with primary lung cancer with locally advanced disease and metastatic disease in a university hospital. Thirty patients with lung cancer, previously treated with curative intention and submitted to a palliative treatment, were enrolled for this study. They were divided into three groups. The first group had 10 patients, who lived between 30 and 59 days after admittance, the second, 10 patients who lived between 60 and 89 days and the third, 10 patients who lived 90 days or more. Data collection regarding five stressing symptoms: anorexia, dyspnea, pain, fatigue, hemoptysis, and cough, was performed according to Lung Cancer Symptom Scale and Karnofsky Performance Status Scale. By observational inspection, “Appetite” and “Karnofsky Performance Status Scale”, improved; “pain" worsened and "quality of life" improved after palliative care, according to the patients. Physical, psychological, spiritual and social factors influence the symptoms of patients with cancer in later life. Treatment by palliative care can provide comfort for these patients.

      Abstract: Malaria is still a fatal disease in many countries around the world. Establishing measures to control and prevent this disease has been a worldwide concern since 1950, when the World Health Organization launched a Malaria Eradication Plan. In Brazil, malaria was eliminated in much of the territory, but resisting in an area known as the Legal Amazon. That said, the main scope of this work is to develop statistical control charts that consider the temporal dependency structure in the data and are suitable for the current and future monitoring of malaria cases, in order to detect possible outbreaks or epidemics in states in the Legal Amazon region. The tools presented here could also collaborate in directing control actions and combating the spread of the disease. In particular, we intend to: (i) build a statistical model to predict the occurrence of cases of the disease, which considers the existence of a possible temporal dependency structure between the collected data; (ii) use the Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques, notably the control charts, to monitor (separately for each form of the disease) cases of malaria of the types Plasmodium Vivax, Plasmodium Falciparum and Plasmodium Mista in the Amazon region; (iii) establish epidemic thresholds based on the obtained control charts. Considering data from 2013 to 2017, this study revealed, among others, that the generalized autoregressive and moving average models with Negative Binomial distribution (Negative Binomial GARMA models) were more efficient, fitting better, compared to Poisson GARMA models, due to the overdispersion existing in the analyzed data.

      Abstract: Considering that the biospeckle laser is a dynamic interferometric phenomenon adopted as a tool to monitor changes in biological samples and that the temporal variation of speckle pattern depend on the activity level of the sample surface illuminated, this work proposes to analyse the time-varying scale-mixing matrix. Using two-dimensional scale-mixing wavelet transform several descriptive summaries varying on time are derived. These descriptors are signature of image regularity and fractality useful in tissue classification. In this work we propose to verify the behavior of the energy-flux between the scales, considering a set of 128 images to classifying cancer areas in images of an anaplastic mammary carcinoma in a female canine and in images of skin cancer in a cat obtained over time. The time-varying spectral slopes applied in the analysis of dissimilarities of tissues allowed to note that healthy area descriptors have lower values than cancer area descriptors, resulting in higher Hurst exponents. By using scaling properties of tissue images, we have captured information contained in the background tissue of images which is not utilized when only considering traditional morphological analysis.

      Abstract: Factorial designs have been increasingly used in scientific investigations and technological development. The designs, through the use of matrices with all the treatment combinations, have been capable to effectively characterize the relationships between the variables of multi-factor experiments, assess the experimental variabilities, and derive mathematical functions that represent the behavior of the responses. Factorial designs were fractionalized, which substantially reduced the number of treatments without the loss of relevant information. The addition of central and star points to the factorial arrays has given them the orthogonality and rotatability characteristics, frequently used to fit models with curvature and identify critical regions of interest. Literature reports indicated that factorial designs, also called factorial experiments, were successfully applied in different types of investigations, including in cost evaluations and time-series studies. They were capable to estimate important features of the experiments, like the individual and combined effects of factors, the magnitude of residuals, additionally to express the relationships of the variables in polynomial equations, draw response surface and contour plots, and determine optimal combinations of parameters. In this review, the fundamental aspects of the Complete, Fractional, Central Composite Rotational and Asymmetrical factorial designs were conceptualized, and recent applications of these powerful tools were described.
